PM Anwar revisits childhood home in Cherok Tok Kun

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took a brief but poignant detour during his official duties in Penang, yesterday to visit his childhood home in Cherok Tok Kun, Bukit Mertajam.
The modest wooden house, where he grew up, holds deep sentimental value for the nation's leader.
For Anwar, the house is more than just a structure. It represents the foundation of his life journey, filled with love, sacrifice, and dreams that shaped his leadership today.
'This house was small and simple, but it was where love flourished,' he wrote in a heartfelt Facebook post, which garnered over 18,000 likes and 600 shares by 11.30am.
He recalled growing up there with his siblings, playing freely, laughing, and crying together while witnessing their parents' relentless efforts to secure a better future for the family.
'Every corner of this house holds a thousand stories, its floors bearing witness to small steps that have carried me this far,' Anwar shared.
The visit also allowed him to embrace and catch up with his brothers, Idrus and Marzuki, rekindling cherished memories.
'There's a longing fulfilled, memories that bloom again,' he wrote emotionally. To me, Cherok Tok Kun remains the base of my roots, no matter how high I have soared.
The humble home symbolises the core of his struggles today—justice, dignity, and love for the rakyat.
'This is where I began—Cherok Tok Kun, Bukit Mertajam. Every return reminds me that everything I fight for today started here, with this family, with this sacred love that never fades,' he added.

PM steps in to help struggling family in Port Dickson

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for immediate assistance to be provided to an asnaf (zakat-eligible) family in Kampung Baru Si Rusa, Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, who are facing hardship after the family's father suffered a stroke. Anwar, who visited Faridah Abbas and her family with his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said the family is now fully dependent on Faridah after her husband, Mohamad Ali Abdul Malek, became bedridden last year. "Azizah and I are deeply affected by the ordeal faced by this asnaf family. I have instructed the Implementation Coordination Unit, Prime Minister's Department, to provide the necessary facilities to help Faridah and her family continue their lives," he said in a Facebook post today. Anwar said the assistance would include a business kiosk to enable Faridah to earn an income by selling kuih, as well as levelling the front portion of the family's home to ensure their comfort. "Hopefully, this kindness and assistance will ease the suffering of Faridah, who has to care for her bedridden husband and their children. We pray that Allah will ease the trials faced by this family, Insya-Allah," he said. Anwar is in Port Dickson for the Madani Government Leadership Ukhuwah (Brotherhood) Programme, held in conjunction with a retreat for members of the administration and Parliament. The programme aims to foster stronger ties between leaders and the people in a relaxed, inclusive setting grounded in shared values. – BERNAMA

Avoid ‘Turun Anwar' rally, civil servants told

The first 'Turun Anwar' rally held in Shah Alam on July 6 attracted about 300 participants, but the organisers say they expect as many as 300,000 to attend Saturday's event. PETALING JAYA : Civil servants have been told to avoid the 'Turun Anwar' rally in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. Chief secretary to the government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said it was inappropriate for civil servants to take part in the rally 'because the action is not in accordance with the principle of loyalty to king and country as espoused by the Rukun Negara'. 'They are civil servants, how can they (be part of the rally?) Every day, every week, we recite the pledge (of) loyalty to king and country,' Bernama quoted him as telling reporters after launching a sports carnival in Putrajaya today. Perikatan Nasional has planned the rally at Dataran Merdeka to push for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's resignation. The organisers expect up to 300,000 participants, although a similar protest in Shah Alam earlier this month drew just over 300. Police were reported as saying, however, that they expect between 10,000 and 15,000 people to join the rally. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said more than 2,000 officers and personnel will be deployed to facilitate the rally and ensure the safety of all involved.
