Gaza civil defence says Israeli strikes kill at least 29
GAZA CITY: Gaza's civil defence agency said Israeli air strikes on Sunday killed at least 29 Palestinians, including six children near a water distribution point.
The attacks came with apparent deadlock in a week of indirect talks in Qatar between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas for a ceasefire in the territory.
Civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP that Gaza City was hit by several strikes overnight and in the early morning, killing eight, "including women and children" and wounding others.
An Israeli air strike hit a family home near the Nuseirat refugee camp, south of Gaza City, resulting in "10 martyrs and several injured", Bassal said.
In central Gaza, six children were among eight people killed when a drone "hit a potable water distribution point in an area for displaced people" in the Nuseirat camp, he added.
Several other people were wounded, he said.
In the territory's south, three people were killed when Israeli jets hit a tent sheltering displaced Palestinians in the coastal Al-Mawasi area, according to the civil defence spokesman.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military, which has recently intensified its operations across Gaza, more than 21 months into the war triggered by Hamas's October 2023 attack.

Despite Naga objections and restrictions, KZC has sought central govt's support to develop both the routes. While Nagas worry about potential land losses, KZC argues that the roads are essential for the community during the ongoing conflict and blockades. The council stressed that the German-Tiger Road provides a safe travel alternative by bypassing Meitei-dominated regions. Sources said some camps of Kuki outfits that are under suspension of operation are in proximity to Naga villages, raising concerns that an upgraded German-Tiger Road would facilitate the groups' movements further. "Nagas fear potential encroachment into their territories by Kuki-Zo people," the source said. Through public contributions, work has commenced to develop basic roads (mostly kutccha), with vehicles already using both routes. According to KZC, improvement of the German-Tiger Road was necessary, as after ethnic violence, it was unsafe for Kuki-Zo people to travel through Meitei-dominated areas. The Singheu Road now connects Churachandpur, Chandel, and Tengnoupal in absence of viable infrastructure. "We call upon the central govts to reject these divisive and baseless allegations and, instead, take steps to improve German-Tiger Road and Singheu Road as essential inter-district lifelines," Ginza said. "We urge the Centre to reject divisive rhetoric and recognize these roads as lifelines—not criminal pathways," Ginza added. Dibrugarh NGO urges CM to address recurring waterlogging issues
1 2 3 Dibrugarh: Policy Group for People's Rights, a prominent Dibrugarh NGO, has urged CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to immediately address recurring waterlogging crisis plaguing Jibon Phukan Nagar, a densely populated locality in the district. NGO president Dr Aradhana Kataki on July 16 had submitted a memorandum to the CM, via an email, highlighting a "deeply distressing situation" affecting thousands of residents during the monsoon. Apparently, the persistent waterlogging issue stem from dysfunctional concrete drains, which has been constructed under the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) scheme. "The drains in question do not function as projected and are unable to ensure continuous flow of rainwater. This leads to sudden and widespread flooding during the monsoon, creating immense hardship for residents," Dr Kataki said in the memorandum. The situation has been further exacerbated due to the choking of Rajabheta drain, a major outflow channel. The combination of these drainage failures has led to flooding in the area, the memorandum read. Govt directs all depts to install boards on POSH Act
Bhubaneswar: State govt has directed all departments, district administrations and urban local bodies to prominently display boards listing the dos and don'ts under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. "This order needs to be considered as urgent and is part of the state's ongoing commitment to create a safe, inclusive and respectful work environment for women," read the letter issued by additional secretary of women and child development department, Jyotishankar Mohapatra, on Saturday. Mohapatra, while urging immediate compliance from all departments and institutes, further said, "It was observed that in many organisations the implementation of the POSH Act 2013 is not adequate. An important step in this direction is creating awareness among all personnel in workplaces and among students. It is imperative that sensitivity and knowledge about this Act is generated not only among girls and women but also among boys and men.
