China and ASEAN also agreed on a five-year action plan that specifies collaboration between the two sides in over 40 fields in the coming years, according to a statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, citing Wang's comments after attending the East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
Wang also said the two sides agreed to strive to complete consultations next year on a code of conduct in the South China Sea - a set of guidelines aiming to manage disputes in the region, where Beijing and several ASEAN members have overlapping maritime claims.

Pakistan also urged the international community to adopt "objective and non-discriminatory policies" in fighting terrorism. China urges balanced talks to ease US trade tensions

China's trade has strong resilience and momentum, and the country will expand imports as well as exports in its next five-year plan, Wang said at a press conference. The country's policy support for exports has "bucked the trend" amid a complex external environment, Wang said. He characterised the ups and downs in China-US trade relations as having taught both sides that they need each other. "A forced decoupling and severing of supply chains is impossible, and some trade between the two sides is difficult to replace, at least in the short term," he said. "Having weathered many storms, the two sides remain important economic and trade partners to each other," Wang said, adding that the two countries can manage tensions through "equal dialogue and consultations". US President Donald Trump hiked tariffs on Chinese products to over 100% earlier this year, before walking back much of the hefty duties in a trade truce with Beijing reached in May. China has until August 12 to reach a deal with Washington to avoid Trump's reinstating additional import curbs imposed during tit-for-tat tariff exchanges in April and May. The current overall tariff level imposed by the US on China is at a "still high" 53.6%, Wang told the press conference. "There are no winners in a trade war. China does not want a trade war, but it is not afraid of one," he reiterated. "Major countries should act like major countries. They must shoulder their responsibilities," he said, adding that China would not change its stance in protecting its national interests.

Pakistan, EU to deepen ties
The European Union (EU) and Pakistan on Thursday held the 10th Political Dialogue in Brussels covering key issues regarding EU-Pakistan bilateral cooperation, as well as regional and international issues, including multilateral cooperation. Both sides agreed to deepen dialogue and discussions on security-related issues. The EU and Pakistan reaffirmed their commitment to the implementation of Strategic Engagement Plan (SEP) signed in 2019. Both sides aim to further deepen cooperation in all areas covered under the SEP. The two sides reiterated their resolve to continue close engagement under the GSP+ framework, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs news release said. They acknowledged the meaningful cooperation on various aspects of migration, aiming to hold the third Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Dialogue later in 2025. Besides bilateral cooperation, both sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues. The EU and Pakistan acknowledged the importance of multifaceted cooperation on security matters, including counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics. They condemned all forms of terrorism. Both sides agreed on the need for efforts based on dialogue and diplomacy in order to solve contentious issues and underscored the importance of upholding international law and the sanctity of international agreements/treaties.
