Nashville Predators place captain Roman Josi on injured reserve with upper body injury
The team made the announcement ahead of Saturday's matchup against the New York Islanders at UBS Arena, along with recalling forward Jake Lucchini and defenseman Spencer Stastney. Additionally, the Predators are holding forward Gustav Nyquist out of the lineup for the purposes of a trade.
Josi was injured by a Sam Bennett hit in the second period of Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Florida Panthers. On the play, Bennett hit Josi from behind near the boards, causing Josi's head to impact the glass. Though Josi finished playing the period, he did not return for the third period and missed Thursday's 2-1 win over the Jets.
The Predators announced on Thursday that Josi was being evaluated for an upper body injury.
Players on injured reserve are ineligible to play in a game for seven days, according to the NHL's hockey operations guidelines. The earliest Josi could return would be March 6 against the Seattle Kraken.
Josi, 34, has played in 52 games for the Predators this season, scoring nine goals and 29 assists. He played in all 82 games last season, but missed the final 15 games of the 2022-23 season with a concussion. Josi is in the fifth year of an eight-year contract he signed in 2019.

Former Steelers CB Steven Nelson fires brutal shot at Jalen Ramsey
It's safe to say not everyone is excited about Jalen Ramsey's addition to the Steelers' defense — as a cornerback from Pittsburgh's past roasted him on social media. On Friday, former Steelers CB Steven Nelson aired his reaction to the news that Ramsey would be covering Buccaneers WR Mike Evans in joint practice — claiming he'd choose any wideout in coverage over the new Steelers cornerback. "Easy money," Nelson said on an Instagram story. "Take the over on whatever wide receiver [Ramsey] guards." Nelson's sour grapes should be taken with a grain of salt, as the former Steelers cornerback didn't have the smoothest of exits from Pittsburgh — dropping a fiery tweet on social media before his release. "Making a public announcement is a little out of my character, but you guys made your decision, please don't hold me hostage," Nelson posted via X on March 23, 2021. It remains to be seen if Ramsey, one of the most outspoken defenders in the NFL, will take the high road in response to Nelson's criticism — but we at Steelers Wire will keep you all updated as more information becomes available. Khamzat Chimaev: 'Poor' Paulo Costa calling me out to make money
Khamzat Chimaev continued to brush off Paulo Costa. Costa (15-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) is eager to fight with Chimaev after accusing him of sending his wife "nasty" messages on Instagram. Chimaev denied ever doing that, but Costa still insists on settling his grudge with him. Chimaev (14-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) challenges Dricus Du Plessis (23-2 MMA, 9-0 UFC) for the middleweight title in Saturday's UFC 319 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) main event at United Center in Chicago. "I don't care what Paulo Costa says," Chimaev said on the JAXXON podcast. "I have my life, I have my bank account better than his 10 times. This guy is poor. That's why he's trying to call me out and make money. I beat the guys who beat him." Chimaev was asked about the possibility of moving up a weight class and facing Alex Pereira if he gets past Du Plessis. Pereira will run things back with light heavyweight champion Magomed Ankalaev in the UFC 320 headliner on Oct. 4 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. "It depends if he wins, so we'll see," Chimaev said of Pereira. "Actually, if he wins – (even) if he lost, they give me good money, I'm going to fight that guy. So, why not?"
