Valpo finds the Wright stuff, beats Bears at buzzer
And February has been kind to Cuonzo Martin's troops.
Missouri State was looking for its third Valley win, and first conference road win of the season.
Valpo beat the Bears by one point on New Years Day in Springfield.
And good start for the Bears, Zaxton King with a three from the top of the arc, it's 5-1 MoState.
Then the Bears with nice passing, one side of the court to the other, then inside to Wesley Oba for the lay up, 17-16 Missouri State.
End of the first half, Jalen Hampton down the lane and the dunk, Missouri State owned a 30-26 halftime lead.
Second half, Vincent Brady with the hoop, he led the Bears with 17.
MoState led by as many as nine but Valpo rallies.
All Wright, a Joplin Eagle and Link Academy product caps a 13-2 Beacon run, Valpo in front 59-57.
We're tied at 64 time running out, Wright to the hole, behind his head shot, off the window and in, and Valpo beats the Bears 66-64.

Terell Smith injury: Bears CB carted off with leg injury
Chicago Bears cornerback Terell Smith exited Sunday night's preseason game against the Buffalo Bills with a leg injury. Smith suffered what appeared to be a non-contact injury to his left leg during the final minutes of the first half, and he was carted off the field. The Bears are already battling some big injuries at cornerback. Pro Bowler Jaylon Johnson suffered a leg injury before training camp, and he's been absent throughout training camp but is expected to be back for the Week 1 opener against the Minnesota Vikings. Meanwhile, Kyler Gordon suffered a hamstring injury last week and is week-to-week. More to come. Caleb Williams' performance linked to Bears WRs' ability to replace Keenan Allen's 121 targets
Caleb Williams' performance linked to Bears WRs' ability to replace Keenan Allen's 121 targets originally appeared on The Sporting News Caleb Williams enters the 2025 season with clear goals: achieving a 70% pass completion rate and throwing for 4,000 yards. He is determined to reach these milestones, which will, in turn, support his wide receivers, particularly Rome Odunze and Olamide Zaccheaus, in filling the void left by Keenan Allen's departure. Allen's 2024 season with the Bears was disappointing, but his departure undeniably leaves a gap, especially given his veteran experience. Williams' success this season is closely linked to the Bears wide receivers' ability to compensate for the 121 targets Allen recorded last year. On Sunday's edition of SportsCenter, ESPN's Courtney Cronin highlighted the encouraging signs emerging from Bears training camp. Odunze and Zaccheaus have stood out, delivering impressive performances in recent practices. Odunze, the ninth pick from last year and part of the same draft class as Williams, is quickly emerging as the team's new No. 1 receiver. Meanwhile, Zaccheaus has made a significant impact after reviving his career last season with the Washington Commanders. Addressing the challenge ahead, SportsCenter host Shae Cornette pointed out that the wide receivers face the daunting task of making up for the 121 targets that Allen received last season. Cornette emphasized the magnitude of this responsibility but also noted, "it sounds like they're on their way to doing that." In his rookie season, Odunze had 54 receptions for 734 yards and three touchdowns across 17 games. Meanwhile, Zaccheaus recorded 45 catches for 506 yards and three touchdowns over the same span, all while catching passes from the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year, Jayden Daniels.
