The Origin Of Imarti:
Imarti's roots can be traced back to North India, especially in the regions of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Some food historians believe it first emerged in the royal kitchens of medieval India, where chefs - known as khansamas - would create elaborate sweets for kings and courtiers. These kitchens weren't just about satisfying hunger; they were about creating edible art. Imarti, with its symmetrical, flower-like pattern and rich saffron-coloured hue, fit right into that aesthetic.
The batter, traditionally made using soaked urad dal (split black gram), was ground into a smooth paste and piped through cloth or coconut shells with tiny holes, forming precise floral loops into hot ghee. The cooked imartis were then dipped into sugar syrup until they soaked in just enough sweetness - not too overpowering, but enough to leave you craving another bite.
Unlike jalebi, which is made using maida (refined flour) and often has a sharp tang thanks to fermentation, Imarti is denser, slightly chewy, and carries a nutty flavour from the dal. It's often flavoured with spices like cardamom, saffron, and rose.
The Journey Of Imarti
What started in royal households eventually made its way to temple kitchens and community feasts. Imarti became a staple in celebratory meals, especially during festivals like Diwali and Holi, and was often offered as prasad in temples. Over time, sweet shops across North India began crafting their own versions, each slightly different depending on regional tastes.
In cities like Varanasi, Lucknow, and Jaipur, imarti is often served fresh in the morning alongside kachori-sabzi or as an evening treat with milk. There's something comforting about watching a halwai (sweet maker) expertly pipe the batter into ghee, forming perfect loops in seconds.
Today, while jalebi often steals the spotlight with its crispy curls and mass appeal, Imarti continues to hold its ground. Its loyal fans love its richness, the way it melts in your mouth after soaking up syrup, and the warm, almost earthy taste that sets it apart from more common sweets.
Whether enjoyed during a family wedding or picked up from a roadside stall on a winter morning, Imarti has quietly but surely won hearts - not through trends, but through tradition.

Now book a Motorhome with TV, refrigerator and more features on your Uber app: Details
Uber India has significantly widened the reach of its Intercity service, now covering over 3,000 routes that connect cities across India, a jump of roughly 50 percent compared to its previous network. This expansion comes as outstation road travel continues to gain popularity, supported by India's rapidly improving highway infrastructure. MG M9 first drive review: More than just a fancy box on wheels? To complement this growth, the company is rolling out a special, time-limited Motorhome experience in the Delhi-NCR region . Available for rides from August 7 to September 6, with bookings starting August 4 via the Uber app, these Motorhomes will have a dedicated icon for easier access. Designed for 4–5 passengers, each vehicle comes equipped with comfort-focused amenities including a television, mini-fridge, microwave, and onboard lavatories . A driver and an assistant will accompany the trip, aiming to provide passengers with a relaxed and convenient long-distance travel experience. Standard Intercity features like advance booking through Uber Reserve, live tracking, mid-trip stop additions, and 24x7 support remain part of the package. Uber reports that its Intercity segment has enjoyed consistent year-on-year growth, fueled by both leisure and essential travel. Over the last year, popular city pairs have included Mumbai–Pune, Delhi–Agra, Bengaluru–Mysore, Lucknow–Kanpur, and Ahmedabad–Vadodara. Travel demand typically spikes during long weekends, festive seasons such as Diwali, Holi, Eid, and India's peak wedding months. Fridays emerge as the most common travel day, with early mornings and the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. window seeing the highest departures when traffic is lighter. While round trips are frequently booked for vacations, religious visits, and events, one-way rides are largely tied to business travel, family visits, and airport or railway station transfers. This Motorhome project is being positioned as a pilot program, allowing Uber to gauge customer interest in premium long-distance travel solutions while introducing a new layer of comfort to intercity mobility. Speaking about the stellar growth of Uber Intercity, Shweta Mantri, Head of Rider Verticals, Uber India and South Asia said, 'More and more people are choosing to hit the road for quick getaways, family visits, or even business meetings, and they want travel that's easy, reliable, and comfortable. That's exactly what Uber Intercity offers, and with the expansion of routes we're doubling down on transforming outstation road travel for millions.' Uber Intercity grows to 3,000 routes; unveils premium Motorhomes service
Uber adds 1,000 new routes in intercity push; pilot of luxury Motorhomes to offer TV, lavatory, and mini-fridge for premium getaways starting August 7 Udisha Srivastav New Delhi Uber has expanded its Intercity services across India by nearly 50 per cent, now covering over 3,000 point-to-point routes. Company executives expect this growth trajectory to continue in the next calendar year as demand for intercity travel picks up. "We are growing roughly in the range of 40 to 50 per cent year-on-year. I think that's the kind of growth we continue to anticipate for the years to come, and hopefully even break that record," said Shweta Mantri, head of rider verticals at Uber India and South Asia, speaking on the sidelines of a company event in New Delhi on Thursday. Among the most travelled Intercity corridors over the past year were Mumbai–Pune, Delhi–Agra, Bangalore–Mysore, Lucknow–Kanpur, and Ahmedabad–Vadodara—especially around long weekends and holidays. Fridays emerged as the most preferred departure day, with travellers choosing early morning hours or the mid-afternoon lull (2 PM–3 PM) to beat traffic. To further accelerate adoption of Intercity services, Uber announced the pilot of a premium offering—Motorhomes—in Delhi's National Capital Region. The one-month pilot, starting August 7, is aimed at travellers seeking luxury and comfort for short getaways. Bookings for Motorhomes will open on August 4 and can be made through the Uber Intercity or Uber Reserve options. The vehicle can accommodate four to five riders and comes equipped with premium amenities including a television, lavatory, microwave, and mini-refrigerator—effectively creating a private lounge-on-wheels. "Our objective is to bring this elevated experience to life for our consumers, see how the pilot goes, what the demand is, and other factors," said Mantri. She noted that given the nature of the offering, pricing will be higher than Uber's regular services. The pilot coincides with the onset of India's festive season and a string of long weekends—periods during which rider interest typically spikes. Uber expects strong demand around Diwali, Holi, Eid, and the summer wedding season. With Intercity travel on the rise and premium services being tested, Uber aims to enhance its platform with both scale and variety, catering to budget-conscious travellers and those seeking curated experiences.

Triptii Dimri's BF Sam Merchant Reacts To Kartik Aaryan Meme Amid Saiyaara Buzz: 'Bhikhari Look…'
Triptii Dimri's rumoured boyfriend Sam Merchant reacted to a meme trolling Kartik Aaryan's look from his upcoming film. In the meme, he's compared to Ahaan Panday of Saiyaara. Triptii Dimri and Kartik Aaryan shared screen space in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, but when the actress didn't join the film's promotions, it sparked buzz about possible tension between the two. Soon after, reports of her not being part of Kartik's next film only fuelled rumours of a fallout. Now, a viral meme has brought that chatter back into focus. The post trolled Kartik's intense, scruffy look from his upcoming musical drama, comparing it to the surprise success of Saiyaara. The meme took a jab at Kartik's 'beggar look" and joked that Saiyaara ended up stealing the spotlight instead. The caption read: 'Bhai pura time bhikhari look mai hype banata reh gaya. Udhar Saiyaara ne baazi maar li." What really caught attention, though, was Triptii's rumoured boyfriend Sam Merchant dropping several laughing emojis in the comments section. While he didn't say anything directly, the timing of his reaction didn't go unnoticed by fans. Kartik's next film, a romantic musical directed by Anurag Basu and co-starring Sreeleela, has been generating interest for a while. Though initially expected to release around Diwali this year, it may face delays. The film, once linked to Aashiqui 3, has since taken on a new direction but remains untitled as of now. Meanwhile, Saiyaara has captured audiences with its emotional depth and music, drawing comparisons to earlier romantic dramas. With Triptii now out of the picture for Kartik's next, and Sam's cheeky online reaction making rounds, fans are left wondering whether there's more to the story than meets the eye. Triptii Dimri and Sam Merchant were recently seen vacationing together in Goa. Earlier, they were also spotted by their eagle-eyed fans in Finland, celebrating the New Year while enjoying the Northern Lights, amongst other trips. Additionally, Sam can often be seen cheering for Triptii at her various professional developments. For instance, when she was recently roped in Prabhas' starrer Spirit, the hotelier reposted her announcement post on his Instagram Stories alongside a few clapping emojis. Kartik Aaryan is currently busy with the shoot of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, while Triptii will start shooting for Spirit.
