Rees-Zammit in mix for Wales autumn return
Wales could potentially have some extra firepower out wide when they take on Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa in Cardiff."I think you wouldn't rule anything out. Zammo [Rees-Zammit] brings a big effect and excitement by coming back," said Tandy."I think it's great for the game. He's gone away to experience something new, which is class, and I'm sure he will be in outstanding physical condition."Wales went with Josh Adams, Tom Rogers and Keelan Giles as wing options on their summer tour, while Rio Dyer, Ellis Mee, Josh Hathaway and Mason Grady are among the other options for November along with Rees-Zammit."The more players we have available to represent our country the better. That's exciting and makes our jobs easier," said Tandy."It will also make our calls on selection a lot more challenging in terms of selection as we've already got some very good back-three players. Adding Zammo into that makes it even more exciting for not only us, but the fans as well."
Former flanker Tandy was confirmed as Wales' new head coach on 21 July and just 10 days later Rees-Zammit announced his return to rugby.Tandy was alerted to the news by his 14-year-old daughter, the oldest of three, and the late night social media post started a scramble for his signature.Rees-Zammit played for Gloucester before his shot at the NFL and is currently weighing up his options for the coming season. His wage demands and the timing of his return make clubs in France or Japan the leading contenders, while Bristol have also been linked. The breakaway R360 league is a possibility down the line but Welsh clubs realistically do not have the financial clout to be in the conversation. However, the winger's return is likely to boost the Welsh Rugby Union's (WRU) coffers by driving interest"I'm over the moon Louis Rees-Zammit is coming back to rugby because it gives us him for the national team. Number one, that's fantastic news," said WRU chief executive Abi Tierney."The challenge we've got is we're starting the season in September. You can have a look at what different teams are doing with their salary caps and their players."Are we in touch with Louis and trying to find a way in which we can make something work? Of course, it would be fantastic, but I'm sure he'll have lots of other offers as well."

Colts QB Anthony Richardson hurts throwing hand in preseason opener
August 8 - Anthony Richardson's poor injury luck continued Thursday night when the quarterback left the first quarter of the Indianapolis Colts' preseason opener at the Baltimore Ravens. Richardson got the start over offseason acquisition Daniel Jones and suffered a finger injury on his right (throwing) hand on his second drive under center. He was sacked by David Ojabo for an eight-yard loss midway through the first quarter, and replay showed his pinkie finger was bent at an awkward angle. Richardson immediately came out of the game, replaced by Jones. In his brief appearance Thursday, Richardson completed 2 of 3 passes for 21 yards. Richardson is battling to keep his starting job after making 11 starts in 2024 and briefly being benched for Joe Flacco. As a rookie in 2023, Richardson suffered an AC joint sprain in his fourth career start and soon underwent season-ending shoulder surgery. He missed two games with an oblique injury as well as two more due to back spasms last season and missed mandatory minicamp with a shoulder injury this summer. --Field Level Media

Inside the mad and dangerous world of Superbikes where 'gladiator' riders dice with death
It's been a weekend of unremitting heat at the UK round of the Superbike World Championship — motorsport which makes F1 look like a sedentary Sunday afternoon drive — and, at the end, the outstanding racer tells me about life and death. Toprak Razgatlioglu is motorcycle racing's most compelling character since Valentino Rossi — riding on the edge just like the Italian, and Barry Sheene decades before him.

Port Vale and Cardiff draw a blank in League One
The draw took Brian Barry-Murphy's visitors top of the fledgling third tier table but last season's relegated Championship side could have returned to Wales empty-handed. Darren Moore's hosts, beaten 2-1 at Rotherham on their return to the third tier on Saturday, created a host of chances but could not beat Bluebirds' debutant goalkeeper Nathan Trott. Vale came closest when Cardiff captain Calum Chambers was indebted to Trott for preventing a headed, first half own goal. Towering defender Jesse Debrah also headed narrowly wide as the visitors rode their luck. Mitch Clark had a goal ruled out for offside in the second half, George Byers hit the bar – only for a linesman's flag to again lead to home frustration – while Ronan Curtis blasted over. Cardiff, who won their opening match at home to Peterborough, rarely threatened and Yousef Salech's 33rd-minute attempt was the closest they came.
