Chick-fil-A Store's Controversial New Policy Has Customers Divided
Since the dawn of hamburger and hot dog joints, teenagers and fast food restaurants have gone hand-in-hand. But now, one Chick-fil-A location's new "teen chaperone" policy might be putting an end to high school kids hanging out and eating fries after class...and customers have mixed feelings about the change.
On Wednesday, Aug. 13, a Chick-fil-A in Kettering, OH, shared a Facebook post announcing the rule, explaining that to "ensure a safe and respectful environment for all guests," patrons "17 and under must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or adult chaperone (age 21+) to dine in."
"Unaccompanied minors may be asked to leave," the post continued, adding, "Thank you for helping us to keep Chick-fil-A family-friendly!"
Some commenters were quick to argue against the idea, with one even saying they "won't be eating" at that Chick-fil-A location anymore.
"I'm in my 50s but I disagree with their policy there's better ways I've managed restaurants convenience stores and retail places and this is not the answer," the person wrote, adding, "You're going to lose so much money and so much business especially being close to the high school and Junior high and what not and on game nights you're screwed your business that you're used to getting on a game night is pretty much over."
"We went Tuesday night for family night and there was about ten or so teens (probably on a sports team together- some were wearing Alter baseball shirts) and they were all so well mannered and having a good time in a safe environment," another local Chick-fil-A customer chimed in to say. "Sad that is getting taken away from them."
Others, however, were in agreement with the idea, with one pointing out that "nobody there makes enough to constantly 'remove disruptive' teenagers who lack accountability and fear of consequence."
"A lot of places are moving into this direction because your kids are unruly and disrespectful," the person continued.
"Everyone acts like this is the only company doing this when it's not," someone else agreed, going on to note that other local businesses also have chaperone policies in effect.
Whether or not other Chick-fil-A locations will follow suit remains to be seen, but as a spokesperson for the chain explained toFox Business, "Chick-fil-A restaurants are locally owned and operated. Family of woman who took her own life in skydive tragedy release statement
The family of Jade Damarell has thanked the skydiving community after an inquest found the experienced jumper died by suicide when she did not deploy her parachute. Jade Damarell died on impact after not deploying her main or backup parachute during a skydive over Fleming Field, in Shotton Colliery, on April 27. An inquest into her death held at Crook Coroner's Court on Thursday (August 21) heard the incident took place the morning after her relationship ended with her boyfriend Ben, who she had met "through their shared love of skydiving". The inquest heard Jade was a "very experienced and competent" parachutist, and had skydived six times successfully the day before the incident took place, but on the fatal jump a report from the British Skydiving Association found there was "no attempt" to deploy the parachute. In a statement after the inquest her family said: 'We acknowledge and accept the conclusion of the coroner's inquest into our daughter Jade's death. Woman and baby hit by a minivan in Framingham crosswalk: Watch video
A woman and a baby were injured Monday, Aug. 18, when they were struck by an SUV as they crossed a street in downtown Framingham crosswalk, police said. The incident was caught on a city camera that records the intersection. The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Monday. The 12-second video released by police shows a woman pushing a stroller across the intersection at Waverly Street and Hollis Street. The woman is walking at what appears to be a normal pace in the crosswalk but appears to start to run as a minivan turns from Waverly Street onto Hollis Street. More: 'Heaven for him.' Police said both the woman and the child were taken to Boston hospitals to be treated for injuries not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the minivan remained on scene and was cited for a crosswalk violation, police said. Police did not identify anyone involved in the crash. The beloved Newsmax hair stylist gunned down by her own son tried to stop him from killing himself during a mental health episode just hours before he turned the gun on her, according to a report. Travis Renee Baldwin, 57, frantically left her Arlington, Va., apartment at 3:20 a.m. on Sunday and raced to help her son Logan Chrisinger, who was experiencing one in a series of mental health crises, a family source told TMZ. 3 Baldwin with son Logan Chrisinger, who had previously threatened to kill both himself and his mother, a family member told TMZ.
