Berks driver license centers hosting Real ID event on May 12
With Real ID enforcement in effect, PennDOT is continuing to offer special hours at driver license centers in Exeter and Cumru townships to exclusively process Real IDs.
The centers at 4375 Perkiomen Ave. in Exeter Township and at 530 E. Lancaster Ave. in Cumru Township will be open May 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. for Real ID processing only.
The Real ID Day is held on Mondays when the centers are typically closed. The centers will still be open during their normal hours and people can also get a Real ID or conduct other driver license business during those regular hours.
As of May 7, Pennsylvanians need a Real ID-compliant license/identification card or another form of federally acceptable identification (such as a valid passport or military ID) to board domestic commercial flights, enter a military base and enter certain federal facilities that require a federally acceptable form of ID.
If you're not sure if a Real ID is right for you, the state has a tool that can help at bit.ly/IsRealID4me.
Remember, a passport is still needed for international travel.
Federal Real ID regulations require that PennDOT must verify the following documents:
• Proof of identity: Examples include an original or certified copy of a birth certificate filed with the State Office of Vital Records/Statistics with a raised/embossed seal or a valid, unexpired U.S. Passport.
• Proof of Social Security number (proof must display currently legal name and full nine digits of the Social Security number): Examples include a Social Security card, a W-2 form, a SSA-1099 form, a non-SSA-1099 form or a pay stub.
• Two proofs of current, physical PA address: Examples include a current, unexpired PA driver's license or identification card, vehicle registration, or a utility bill with the same name and address.
• Proof of all legal name changes (if current legal name is different than what is reflected on proof of identity document): Examples include certified marriage certificate(s) issued by the county court for each marriage, court order(s) approving a change in legal name, or adoption decree issued by your county's family court.
Note: If your current name is the same as what is reflected on the proof of identity document (usually birth certificate or passport), proof of legal name change does not need to be shown.
Officials noted some states require residents to obtain a Real ID, while Pennsylvania has made it optional.
More information about Real ID document requirements can be found on PennDOT's Real ID website.

Social Security June 2025: Here's When the Next Round of Payments Will Be Sent Out
The first round of Social Security payments were sent out earlier this week, to people who've been receiving benefits since before May 1997 and those who also receive Supplemental Security Income. For everyone else, when you get paid depends on when you were born. We'll explain. Social Security benefit payments are sent monthly to people who've applied for their retirement, survivors or disability benefits. The payments are sent in waves throughout the month. When you receive your Social Security check is determined by how long you've been receiving benefits, whether you receive additional government benefits, or the day of the month you were born. Not sure when you should be receiving your payment? We break it down, below. Read on to find out how your payment date is determined, when you should receive your check, and the full payment schedule for the month of June. For more, don't miss CNET's Social Security and SSDI cheat sheet. Want to know which day of the month you'll receive your check? This is the Social Security and SSDI payment schedule for June. Social Security payments are typically paid out starting on the second Wednesday of the month. The remaining two payments will be paid out on the following two Wednesdays of the month. Which week you receive your payment depends on your birthdate. There is one big exception, which we'll cover below. If you've received Social Security benefits since before May 1997, or receive Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, your payment schedule isn't determined by your birthdate. Instead, payments are paid out every month on the same date with a couple of exceptions. Social Security payments will be sent out on the 3rd of each month, while SSI payments are sent out on the 1st of each month. These dates will sometimes change if the 1st or the 3rd of the month falls on a weekend or holiday. For example, March 3 of last year fell on a weekend, so Social Security recipients received their March payments two days early, on March 1. The only benefits that are paid on the same schedule are Social Security and Social Security Disability Insurance. An executive order from the White House will end the use of paper Social Security checks on Sept. 30. This means all payments after that date will be sent digitally, including direct deposits, debit and credit cards, digital wallets and other real-time payment systems to reduce the overall cost of sending physical checks to beneficiaries. The decision is not surprising when you consider that only 485,766 Social Security checks are mailed each month, which pales in comparison to the 68,104,184 direct deposit payments made each month. While this will undoubtedly be an adjustment period for those people who have been receiving physical checks, moving mailed benefits payments to digital forms will increase security. It's important to note that some exclusions will be made for certain individuals. If your check fails to arrive when it's supposed to or not at all, the Social Security Administration suggests waiting three additional mailing days before contacting it. After that, you can call the national toll-free number: 1-800-772-1213. The SSA notes that "wait times to speak to a representative are typically shorter in the morning, later in the week and later in the month." If you're having trouble reaching the SSA through the national number, you can use its office locator to find a local office.
