"Kavitha has no moral right to speak about BCs. Did she ever raise her voice for the weaker sections in the past 10 years," Ponnam asked. "We have great respect for BC leader and BJP Rajya Sabha MP R Krishnaiah, but he should seek an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Congress leaders are ready to accompany him to convince Modi to amend the Constitution for enhanced reservations for BCs," Minister Ponnam said, referring to Kavitha's meeting with R Krishnaiah.
"The Congress govt not only passed two Bills in the Assembly providing 42% reservations for BCs in education and employment, and local bodies but also sent them to the governor. Now, the ball is in the Modi govt's court," Ponnam said.
He also condemned attempts to politicise the BC Bill and extended an invitation to all parties, including former chief minister and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao and his allies, to join hands with Congress to uplift BC communities.
He added that, in line with Rahul Gandhi's vision, the Congress govt in Telangana is firm on the welfare of BCs on all fronts.

BJP workers plant saplings in memory of late Sushma Swaraj

On the sixth death anniversary of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday, as a tribute, 501 saplings were planted at Silver Oak Park, Jangpura Extension, said Delhi BJP president Virender Sachdeva. 'Today, on the death anniversary of Sushma Swaraj, we, BJP workers, gathered to offer floral tributes and plant 501 saplings. Swaraj was like a mother to all of us. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative 'One Tree in the Name of Mother', we planted these saplings in her memory,' said Mr. Sachdeva. 'Swaraj's ideals and personality remain an ongoing source of inspiration for all our workers. From her, we learned how to conduct debate in the House with civility, even while in the Opposition,' he added. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who took part in the event, said that thousands of women across India and abroad still remember Sushma as a source of inspiration. 'She was not only a towering personality, but also a motherly politician. Every daughter of the country should draw inspiration from her life,' said Ms. Gupta.

7 held for attack on Suvendu's convoy in Cooch Behar

1 2 Kolkata/Jalpaiguri: Seven people were arrested by Cooch Behar Police on Wednesday in connection with the attack on the convoy of Bengal leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari. Sources said the arrested included TMC workers and Trinamool Yuva functionaries. The arrested were remanded to five days' judicial custody. Meanwhile, Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya moved a notice in Rajya Sabha under Rule 267 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of State (Rajya Sabha), seeking a discussion on the attack, which he described as "an attack on democracy". Adhikari's convoy came under attack in Cooch Behar on Tuesday, when he arrived to attend a protest rally and submit a memorandum to the SP regarding alleged assaults on BJP workers. As the convoy reached Khagrabari, a group of alleged TMC supporters attacked the convoy. In his complaint, Adhikari named 41 persons, including state minister, Udayan Guha. "We are not going to leave them. If Udayan Guha was directly involved in the incident, the police's role cannot be ruled out," Adhikari said at a meeting on Wednesday. "Not a single Rohingya or Bangladeshi Muslim was named in complaint or arrested. His comments were baseless and he should apologise. Those who disrespect Bengalis and the Bengali language will be shown black flags," Guha said.

Min mandates use of Made in India goods in 3 depts

1 2 Jaipur: Cabinet minister Madan Dilawar announced Wednesday that only Made in India products must be used in education, Panchayati Raj, and Sanskrit education departments. He said only products not available in the country and requiring imports can be used after approval from the minister. "This initiative has been started to realise the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India campaign . This will increase the use of goods manufactured in India, and it will also have a positive impact on our economy. Many foreign countries earn profit from us by selling their products in India, but they use that money to help our enemy country," said Dilawar. Speaking to TOI, he added that if any foreign product is used in these departments, personal recovery will be done from the officer concerned. "If any officer or employee of these departments purchases foreign goods, then not only will strict action be taken against them, but the payment of the purchased goods will also be recovered from them," said Dilawar. He also appealed to women ahead of Rakshabandhan to purchase only indigenous products for the festival. "If you go to the market to buy Rakhi, buy only locally made Rakhi made by our Indian artisans. Boycott foreign Rakhis, especially those made in China, do not buy them. With this, you will not only serve the country but also provide employment to fellow citizens. Adopt Swadeshi and make the country strong," he said. Reacting to the announcement, state Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra said that the decision was inappropriate and irrational decision.
