
Oman participates in conference of states parties to CRPD in New York
Oman's delegation to the conference was headed by Ambassador Omar Said Al Kathiri, Oman's Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, and comprised representatives from the Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs.
In a speech delivered by Badr Fareesh Al Yahyaee, Assistant Director-General of the for Persons with Disabilities at the Ministry of Social Development, Oman highlighted its extensive efforts to support and empower persons with disabilities across all sectors. These efforts align with the provisions of the State's Basic Law, relevant national legislation, 'Oman Vision 2040" and the country's commitments under international conventions and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.
Oman's address also outlined key achievements in the care and empowerment of persons with disabilities, including the draft law on the rights of persons with disabilities, which was formulated in accordance with the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Other milestones include the development of a comprehensive national guide for engineering standards and specifications for inclusive urban environments and accessible transportation, as well as the organization of the first National Forum for Persons with Disabilities in 2023, whose outcomes laid the groundwork for a dedicated lab to enhance services and programs for persons with disabilities.
The Sultanate of Oman's emphasized the importance of raising public awareness about the rights of persons with disabilities as a shared responsibility, with active participation from persons with disabilities themselves. It also called for unified visions among all member states to achieve an accessible, barrier-free environment that fulfills their aspirations.

Oman condemns Israeli statements on so-called "Greater Israel"
Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has strongly condemned the statements made by the Prime Minister of the Israeli government and his claims regarding the so-called "Greater Israel'. Oman expressed its categorical rejection of his illegal expansionist schemes, which blatantly violate international law and infringe upon the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on their lands in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem as its capital. In a statement issued today by the Foreign Ministry, Oman emphasized that these expansionist propositions pose a direct threat to the security and stability of the region, fueling hostility and tension at a time when de-escalation, cooperation among regional states, and respect for the principles of national sovereignty and good neighborliness are most needed. Oman also reaffirmed its steadfast stance in supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional states and its firm rejection of any schemes aimed at undermining national entities or altering the political geography of the region. Oman reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to establish an independent state along the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. The Sultanate of Oman has called upon the international community to take a firm stance against these aggressive policies and to work toward safeguarding the rights of the Palestinian people, ensuring the achievement of a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

Pakistan embassy celebrates 79th Independence Day in Muscat
Muscat: To celebrate 79th Independence Day of Pakistan, the Embassy of Pakistan organized a flag hoisting ceremony in the Chancery, followed by an event in the Embassy to celebrate Pakistan's victory in Marka-e-Haq. Legendary cricketer Inzamam ul Haq was the guest of honour at the ceremony. A large number of Pakistani community members attended the event. Messages of the President, the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister were read out. A documentary on Marka-e-Haq was displayed. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Naveed Safdar Bukhari, the Ambassador of Pakistan congratulated the Pakistani community on the Independence Day. He said that through out our history, the Pakistani nation has always succeeded in overcoming challenges against all odds. In fact, the word resilience defined the people of Pakistan. In recent years, this was evident from Pakistan's ability to successfully revive the economy and put it back on the path of growth. He said that while it was important to acknowledge areas that required improvement, it was equally important to be aware of our strengths and utilise them to chart a path to success. Paying glowing tribute to the Armed forces of Pakistan, the Ambassador said that the glorious victory against India in Operation Bunyan un Marsoos and Marka-e-Haq was a testament to the highest degree of professionalism of our armed forces. He congratulated the entire Pakistani nation on the victory and said that the entire nation stands behind our armed forces in defending sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan. The Ambassador also praised the Pakistani-Omani diaspora for their extremely important role in building Pakistan's economy through remittances and investments and acting as a bridge between Pakistan and Oman.
