Pierce Brosnan defends 'offensive' Irish accent after being mocked by MobLand viewers
delves into his role on MobLand, seemingly defending it amid being heavily mocked for it on social media.
In a recent interview,
Pierce
shared how the 'Irish aspect' of his gangster
MobLand
character. 'The
Irish
aspect of him happened on the day. I was going for a North London or South London accent,' he told the
Los Angeles
Times. 'But on the very first day of shooting with Tom and myself, Guy said, 'Go Irish.' I called up my dialect coach, Brendan Gunn, who I've worked with many, many times. I said, 'Brendan, I've got 15 minutes. Give me a Kerry accent'.'
Pierce continued: 'Brendan gave me a man who I based the voice on — he's from Kerry and he's a politician — and I jumped in with both feet.

Pierce stars as Conrad Harrigan, the head of a very successful Irish crime family based out of London in the series.
Other stars who are a part of the cast are Dame Helen Mirren, who plays his Irish wife Maeve, and Tom Hardy, who plays Conrad's 'fixer' Harry DeSouza.
Despite Pierce putting his best foot forward for his role, critics have slammed the Paramount+ series, specifically because of Pierce's character's 'offensive' Irish accent.
Even though he was born in Drogheda,
Co Louth
, and raised in Navan,
Co Meath
before moving abroad in his teens, many are taking issue with his diction in MobLand.
On social media, one viewer penned: "Pierce Brosnan seems to have forgotten his hiberno English."
Another commented: "Watching Mobland and Pierce Brosnan's accent is doing laps of the entire country."
A third added: "Man's gone from Cork to
Dublin
and back to Kerry mid-sentence."
Meanwhile, another shared, "considering he's Irish, Pierce Brosnan's attempt at an Irish accent can only be described as ------- offensive."
Although Pierce is getting a lot of online hate, his co-star and Co Westmeath native Lisa Dwan has come to his defense.
'Well, I'm Irish and I knew immediately he was doing a Kerry accent, which is west of Ireland," she told Parade.

Things you didn't know about Baileys
The name Baileys isn't Irish either According to the Irish Times , Gluckman and Seymour-Davies borrowed the name from Baileys Bistro, a restaurant located beneath their new office in SoHo, London. It just sounded right. Baileys comes in more flavours than you'd expect Above From Dublin to the world: Baileys has won hearts with its variety of flavour twists (photo: Getty Images / Monica Schipper) Beyond the original Irish Cream, the brand has expanded its repertoire to include indulgent favourites like Salted Caramel, Espresso Crème, Chocolate Cherry and Vanilla Cinnamon. Seasonal specials such as Pumpkin Spice keep things fresh, while the vegan-friendly Baileys Almande—made with almond milk—offers a plant-based option. Limited-edition releases such as Strawberries & Cream, Chocolat Luxe and Dulce de Leche (the latter exclusive to Mexico) prove Baileys isn't afraid to experiment. Pure ingredients, proudly sourced Each year, Baileys uses more than 250 million litres of fresh milk sourced directly from Ireland. According to a 2015 report by the Irish government's Merrion Street agency, this milk is collected from over 40,000 cows across 1,500 carefully selected farms. It is then transported to the Baileys facility in Dublin, where it becomes the cream used in the liqueur—a product with a shelf life of up to two years. Above Baileys has come to symbolise indulgence and ease (photo: Instagram / @baileysofficial) At least five men have laid claim to its creation The names most often associated with Baileys' beginnings include David Gluckman, David Dand, Mac Macpherson, Steve Wilson and Tom Jago. Among them, Jago is widely regarded as the most credible source. A pioneer in spirits innovation, he also helped create Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Malibu, and later co-founded The Last Drop Distillers with James Espey. According to Jago, Gluckman and Seymour-Davies were copywriters, Macpherson served as the chemist, Wilson assisted him, and Dand oversaw the project. Together, they experimented with a mix of whiskey, cream, sugar and chocolate, along with a name that would eventually become world-famous. A favourite among women Above Versatile and stylish, Baileys pairs beautifully with a wide range of treats (photo: Instagram / @baileysofficial) With an approachable alcohol content of around 17% and a soft, sweet profile, Baileys holds strong appeal, particularly among women. In 2014, Diageo launched a female-focused campaign titled 'This is for Us,' conceived by an all-female creative team at BBH London. According to Irish Central, the campaign was crafted specifically for the Millennial woman. It isn't just for after dinner In 2019, Baileys debuted a line of coffee creamers (think cold brews in flavours such as Caramel and Irish Coffee) aimed at brightening up your morning ritual. The brand has also ventured into desserts, releasing products like yoghurt and chocolate biscuits for fans wanting a little extra indulgence.

How Ryan Coogler's ‘Sinners' raises the bar for the horror genre
Above Michael B Jordan plays Smoke and Stack (Photo: Courtesy of Warner Bros) Set in 1932, Clarksdale, Mississippi, the film takes us to the tail end of the Prohibition Era. The set design, dialogue and diction of the characters immerse the audience in the world that director Coogler built. Despite being set over 30 years after the end of the Old West era, the film somehow watches like a Western—peculiar but welcome. Sinners takes its time with its worldbuilding. For a movie about vampires, it takes about 50 minutes for one to appear on screen, easing audiences in without feeling dragged. Above Jack O'Connell plays Remmick, an Irish Vampire in 'Sinners' (Photo: Courtesy of Warner Bros) When we're introduced to the first vampire, Remmick (played by Jack O'Connell), he's being hunted by a band of Choctaw vampire hunters. Their brief scene time commanded the screen and showed us that the threat is serious and real, which makes it disappointing that they were never seen again. It would've been great to see how the experts would deal with a vampire threat, but their lack of involvement in the plot is understandable to avoid the 'knight in shining armour' cliché. See also: From controller to screen: 5 TV shows adapted from video games to watch Above The vampires waiting outside the juke bar (Photo: Courtesy of Warner Bros) The film's greatest strength is its music, composed by Ludwig Göransson. From the blues to country and even Irish melodies, each song was skillfully performed by the cast. Two scenes come to mind where the music was at its most powerful are Miles Caton's I Lied to You and O'Connell's Rocky Road to Dublin . The former is perhaps the film's most iconic scene, which is ironic as it didn't contain any vampires. Shot in one take, this scene gave audiences a look at Sammie's musical gift to summon their ancestors. African ancestors and modern DJs filled the room as the juke bar's customers jived to his song—blending ancient instruments with the familiar scratching of turntables to the blues. The latter is a mesmerising yet eerie foil to Caton's song. Rocky Road to Dublin was performed in an open field outside the sawmill by the vampires, who seemed like they were chanting demonically. O'Connell's performance was perfect, unsettling the audience without the need for jump scares and grotesque visuals. While present, the vampires preferred to charm their way in rather than with force—showing us true horror. Above The cast of 'Sinners' making their last stand in the juke bar (Photo: Courtesy of Warner Bros) The whole cast's performance was perfect, capturing their characters' little nuances. Playing dual roles as the twin brothers, Smoke and Stack, Jordan made them feel like two separate people—making it easy for the audience to tell who's who. Hailee Steinfeld and Wunmi Mosaku, who played the brothers' love interests, Mary and Annie, complemented their lovers—adding depth to their characters. Mary and Stack were exes who had difficulty being together due to the racial inequalities of the time, while Smoke and Annie had a foundation of love and support. 'I really found this whole experience of working with Michael quite magical. When it was Smoke and Annie, our relationship on the set, as Wunmi and Michael, was so easy and our shorthand was so in sync… His energy was so different that I could tell with my back turned who was walking onto the set—if it was Stack or Smoke. No question. I didn't even have to look. It was so obvious to me. It was so nuanced and fine-tuned. The vibration was so clear. I could tell without a shadow of a doubt if it was Stack or Smoke,' says Mosaku. Above The cast of Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners' (Photo: Courtesy of Warner Bros) Towards the end, when the dust has settled from the vampire attack of last night, the film circles back and shows us Sammie's fate. Once the credits roll, make sure to stay in your seat as there is an additional scene that provides closure and a happy ending for the remaining characters. Coogler's Sinners is by far the best film of 2025 so far and deserves all the praise it gets—hopefully setting new standards for the genre as a whole. Like a True Dandy, A$AP Rocky Wore His Own Design to the 2025 Met Gala
As an official co-chair of the 2025 Met Gala, A$AP Rocky was of course expected arrive in a memorable look. And like a true modern-day dandy (or 'Fashion Killa,' rather) the Vogue May cover star did not disappoint. The star chose to wear a custom design from his own creative agency, AWGE. (Talk about the ultimate style flex: 'Oh this? It was custom made for me, by me.') Doing a contemporary spin on tailoring, Rocky took a cool, sportswear-minded route that reflected his impeccable personal style: He wore a double-breasted AWGE parka in technical wool, complete with coated snaps and velcro detailing on the sleeves. The jacket was inspired by the Marmot outerwear Rocky saw being worn in his native Harlem growing up. To him, the jackets represented modern-day dandyism, and he wanted to pay homage to that. 'Marmots are a Harlem tradition; in the winter, everyone has a Marmot on,' Rocky told Vogue during his final fitting in New York. 'That was our teenage jacket.' Rocky's longtime stylist Matthew Henson, who played a pivotal role in bringing the design to life, adds, 'Rocky wanted to do something new and original. He wanted to pay homage to New York, and one of the biggest and most well-known jackets [in this city] is a Marmot jacket. It's a really crazy outdoor technical jacket, but it has a really beautiful shape.' The duo reinterpreted the piece with a double-breasted closure, giving it a surprisingly formal feel. 'It closes the same way that a tuxedo would,' says Rocky. The 2025 Met Gala co-chair paired the jacket with dressier pieces including a white cotton poplin shirt, a black wool trousers and a vest, exposed satin boxers, and a black wool necktie for a more traditional finish. Accessorising the look, meanwhile, were a pair of dressy oxfords that AWGE made in collaboration with Christian Louboutin, as well as jewelry pieces by Bulgari. Rocky launched AWGE in 2014, and showed the design agency's first full runway collection during Paris Fashion Week in June 2024. (In his May Vogue cover story, the rapper wears a sleek gray AWGE suit in a photo taken alongside his grandmother, Cathy.) Rocky says that helming his own brand has allowed him to experiment with his sense of style—though that is well-formed by now. 'This is my favorite style era of mine,' Rocky says of his dapper wardrobe today. 'Being a dad has definitely influenced my style today.' This year marks Rocky's fifth time attending the annual Met Gala. The rapper first attended the back in 2014, for the Charles James-themed exhibition. In more recent years, the star has attended alongside his partner Rihanna—and the duo has shut down every red carpet they've graced. As for how the power couple will celebrate this evening? Rocky has epic plans in mind—and he has the slick look to go with it. 'I plan on having a hell of a night, and enjoying myself,' he says. Article originally published on Vogue US
