Fake police station busted in Bihar days after ASI held with sophisticated weapons
PATNA: A group of fraudsters operated a fake police station for nearly a year from a government school building in Bihar's Purnea district. The racket surfaced shortly after a suspended ASI was arrested in Samastipur with sophisticated weapons, including an AK-47, Insas rifle, and a carbine.
The alleged mastermind, Rahul Kumar Sah, has been absconding since the fake police station in Mohani village under Kasba police limits was exposed on Monday. Purnea SP Kartikey Sharma said a special police team has been formed to investigate the case.
According to police, Sah posed as a recruiter for the Gramin Raksha Dal, charging local youth between Rs 2,500 and Rs 5,000 for supposed appointments as constables and chowkidars. After enrolling them, he handed out police uniforms, batons, and fake identity cards, and assigned them tasks, including vehicle checks and raids targeting liquor smugglers.
Once recruited, they were instructed to carry out vehicle checking at different locations and fine motorists Rs 400 for infractions such as not wearing helmets or carrying a driving licence. Rs 200 went to the patrol team as commission, and the remainder was pocketed by Sah.
'Rahul told us the rest of the money was going into the government treasury,' one of the victims told senior police officers.

IAS officer caught accepting bribe of Rs 10 lakh in Odisha
Kalahandi (Odisha) [India], June 9 (ANI): Dhiman Chakma, Sub-Collector of Dharamgarh in Kalahandi district, was caught red-handed on Monday while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a local businessman, according to the Odisha Vigilance Department. During further searches at his residence, an additional Rs 47 lakh in cash was recovered and Investigations are ongoing, a release said. Chakma, the 2021-batch IAS officer, had allegedly demanded a total of Rs 20 lakh as a bribe, threatening to take action against the businessman's enterprise if the payment was not made, the Odisha Vigilance said in a release. Chakma called the complainant to his official residence in Dharamgarh, where he accepted Rs. 10 lakh as the first instalment, it said. The IAS officer was caught 'red handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a local businessman,' the department said in the release. The accused Sub Collector called the complainant to his official government residence at Dharamgarh, received the bribe amount, verified the 26 number of 100-note bundles of different denominations with both his hands, and kept the same inside his residence office table drawer. Both hand wash and table drawer wash gave a positive chemical reaction, the release said. A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). More details are awaited as the probe continues. (ANI)

Drugs and cash of around Rs 55.52 crore seized in Manipur; five arrested
Imphal (Manipur) [India], June 9 (ANI): Continuing the battle against the smuggling and trafficking of contraband drugs in the North Eastern Region, the authorities have seized drugs and cash of around Rs 55.52 crore in Manipur in a joint 'Operation White Veil'. According to a release, a special operation codenamed 'Operation White Veil' was carried out in the bordering areas of Churachandpur District of Manipur on June 5-7 by a Joint Team of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Customs, 37 Bn Assam Rifles and the Manipur Police. The joint team of officials seized 7,755.75 grams of heroin worth Rs. 54.29 crore and 6,736 grams of opium worth of Rs. 87.57 lakh in the international grey drug market, along with cash of Rs. 35.63 lakh. Two Baofeng Walkie-Talkies and one Van have been seized and five persons arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Five persons were also arrested in the operation, the release stated. As per the release, in the early morning hours of June 6, two suspects on a Van at Behiang Village bordering Myanmar were discreetly pursued, leading to a residential house at Thadou Veng in Singngat Sub-Division. On searching the house, 219 soap cases containing heroin and eight packages & 18 small tin cans containing opium were recovered along with two Baofeng Walkie-Talkies and cash amounting to Rs. 7,58,050. While one person was apprehended from the house, two other persons, who escaped, were intercepted at Bualkot Check Gate. In a quick follow-up action, the residential house of one of the accused persons located at Behiang Village was searched and two packages containing opium and cash amounting to Rs. 28,05,000 recovered. Acting on further inputs received during the operation, two persons carrying improvised manpacks were intercepted at Zoukhonuam Village near BP 46 on June 7. Search of the manpacks resulted in the recovery of 440 soap cases containing heroin. The release stated that preliminary investigation indicates that the seized contraband drugs were smuggled into the bordering areas of Churachandpur District from Myanmar through the porous forested Indo-Myanmar border. Inspite of the challenges and difficulties, a well-coordinated action by the law enforcement agencies led to the successful operation. The NDPS Act prescribes stringent punishment to offenders which may entail rigorous imprisonment upto ten years. (ANI)
