Astronomer issues statement after CEO Andy Byron caught in Coldplay kiss cam scandal

ITV Newsa day ago
Astronomer has issued a statement after the company's CEO was caught on camera embracing a colleague at a Coldplay concert, in an awkward moment which has gone viral on social media.
Andy Byron, head of the data infrastructure company Astronomer, was spotted cuddling a woman, identified as his colleague and Chief People Officer Kirstin Cabot, at the British pop-rock group's gig in Boston on Wednesday.
When they saw themselves on the big screen, the pair quickly separated and attempted to hide their faces, with Byron ducking down and the woman turning her back to the camera.
"Whoa, look at these two,' Coldplay singer Chris Martin said. 'Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy."
In another clip circulating social media, the musician can be heard saying: "Did we rumble you? Holy s***. I hope we didn't do something bad."
The moment quickly went viral on social media, leading many to speculate on Byron's relationship status, while the CEO's wife reportedly removed the Byron surname from her Facebook account before later deleting it.
Astronomer has now issued a statement saying they were investigating the incident.
In a post on LinkedIn, they said: "Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability.
"The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter, and we will have additional details to share very shortly."
They also said a third woman in the video, who was seen looking slightly embarrassed by the gaffe, was not an Astronomer employee as some on social media had speculated.
Astonomer has seen rapid growth since Byron became CEO in 2023, and the firm is now valued at over $1bn (£750m).

Tech company boss quits after controversy over Coldplay concert video

Andy Byron resigned from his job as CEO of Astronomer, according to a statement posted on LinkedIn by the company on Saturday. 'Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. 'Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met,' the company said. The move comes a day after the company said that Mr Byron had been placed on leave and the board of directors had launched a formal investigation into the incident, which went viral. A short video clip from Coldplay's concert on Wednesday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, showed a man and a woman cuddling and smiling, his arms wrapped around her, as she leaned back into him. When they saw themselves on the big screen, her jaw dropped, her hands flew to her face and she spun away from the camera. He ducked out of the frame, as did she. Lead singer Chris Martin had asked the cameras to scan the crowd for his Jumbotron Song, when he sings a few lines about the people the camera lands on. 'Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy,' he joked. Internet sleuths identified the man as the chief executive officer of a US-based company and the woman as its chief people officer. Pete DeJoy, Astronomer's co-founder and chief product officer, has been tapped as interim CEO while the company conducts a search for Mr Byron's successor.
