Union Minister Nitin Gadkari reviews progress of National Highway projects in Maharashtra

India Gazette08-07-2025
New Delhi [India], July 8 (ANI): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari held a detailed review meeting in New Delhi on Monday with officials to assess the progress of National Highway projects in Maharashtra.
The review was focused on the road projects, including Mumbai-Goa Highway (Package I, VI, VII), National Highway 353C from Choudampalli to Sironcha, National Highway 161A from Mudkhed to Nanded, National Highway 166G from Talere to Gaganbawda to Kolhapur, National Highway 52 and Kharwandi Kasar Junction, and National Highway 652 from Naldurg to Akkalkot.
Earlier on Sunday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflicts worldwide and stated that the situation has become so grave that tensions between countries could potentially escalate into a third world war soon.
The Union Minister also highlighted that advancements in warfare technology have dramatically altered the 'dimensions of war' and said that the current situation is a serious problem that demands urgent attention and discussion at the global level.
'There is an atmosphere of conflict around the world, between Israel and Iran, as well as the war between Russia and Ukraine. The situation is such that there is a possibility of a third world war anytime in the backdrop of these wars,' said Nitin Gadkari while addressing a book launch event in Nagpur on Sunday.
'Due to the increasing technology of war, the dimensions of war have changed, and the use of missiles and drones has increased in the war, due to which the relevance of tanks and other types of aircraft is decreasing. Amidst all this, it has become difficult to protect humanity. Missiles are often fired at civilian settlements,' he said.
He further said, 'This has created a serious problem, and all these issues need to be discussed at the global level. It would not be right to say this, but this path is slowly moving towards destruction.' (ANI)

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma & WB counterpart Mamata Banerjee engage in a bitter verbal volley over infiltration, identity & language

ANI Himanta Biswa Sarma (left), Mamata Banerjee Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee are engaged in a bitter verbal volley over the Bengali speaking, identity and demographic stated in X, 'The second most spoken language in the country, Bangla, is also the second most spoken language of Assam. To threaten citizens, who want to coexist peacefully respecting all languages and religions, with persecution for upholding their own mother tongue is discriminatory and unconstitutional. This divisive agenda of the BJP in Assam has crossed all limits and people of Assam will fight back. I stand with every fearless citizen who is fighting for the dignity of their language and identity, and their democratic rights.'Sarma replied, 'In Assam, we are not fighting our own people. We are fearlessly resisting the ongoing, unchecked Muslim infiltration from across the border, which has already caused an alarming demographic shift. In several districts, Hindus are now on the verge of becoming a minority in their own land. This is not a political narrative—it's a reality. Even the Supreme Court of India has termed such infiltration as external aggression. And yet, when we rise to defend our land, culture, and identity, you choose to politicize it. 'He continued, 'We do not divide people by language or religion. Assamese, Bangla, Bodo, Hindi—all languages and communities have coexisted here. But no civilisation can survive if it refuses to protect its borders and its cultural foundation. While we are acting decisively to preserve Assam's identity, you, Didi, have compromised Bengal's future—encouraging illegal encroachment by a particular community, appeasing one religious community for vote banks, and remaining silent as border infiltration eats away at national integrity—all just to stay in power. Assam will continue to fight to preserve its heritage, its dignity, and its people—with courage and constitutional clarity'.Controversy started earlier this month when Sarma said that Assamese is the state language and there cannot be blackmail to it. He said that threats by some minority organizations that they will not write Assamese as their mother tongue in the census will only quantify the number of foreigners. All Bodoland Territorial Council Minority Students Union (ABMSU) threatened to replace language in the census. He threatened to replace Assamese with Bengali following the state government's eviction drive in had said, "Language cannot be used as a tool for blackmail. In Assam, Assamese is permanent — both as the state and official language. However, if they write Bengali in electoral rolls or census, it will only quantify the number of foreigners in the state.'ABMSU leader Mainuddin Ali said that Bengali-speaking Muslims would now choose to write Bengali — not Assamese — in public declarations, claiming that Assamese would no longer remain a majority language. All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) affiliated workers' union, the Indian National Trinamool Trade Union Congress (INTTUC), staged a protest march against the National Register of Citizens(NRC) in Siliguri, condemning the alleged harassment and pushback of migrant Bengali-speaking individuals from several BJP-ruled states. Muslims comprise 34% of the 3.12 crore population of Assam, of which 4% are indigenous Assamese Muslims and the remaining are mostly Bengali- speaking Muslims.

Indias Startup Boom: Nearly 76,000 Run By Women, Says Minister

New Delhi: India is witnessing a surge in women-led innovation with around 76,000 startups now being driven by women many of them from tier 2 and tier 3 cities. Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh highlighted this growing trend, noting that empowered women and youth will be at the forefront of India's journey to becoming a developed nation by 2047, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the vision of women-led development. Addressing a conference, Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that in the past 11 years, the Modi government has built its governance around four key pillars — the Poor, Farmers, Youth, and Women. 'Women-centric governance has not only empowered individuals, but reshaped society. What began as targeted welfare has now evolved into institutional leadership,' he told the gathering. The minister introduced the Jeevika E-Learning Management System App to make education more accessible for women. He also released 'Shashakt Mahila, Samriddh Bihar', a publication that honors and showcases the significant role of women in Bihar's development journey. Dr Singh elaborated on the PM Modi government's structured and comprehensive approach to women empowerment, built across four key pillars. The first phase, Access and Inclusion in Institutions, marked a historic shift in India's educational and military landscape. The second phase, Scientific and Technological Empowerment, has empowered women through targeted schemes such as WISE (Women in Science and Engineering), GATI (Gender Advancement for Transforming Institutions), CURIE, and the Women Scientist Programme. The third phase, Economic and Social Empowerment, has witnessed a massive scale-up of women's access to financial resources. Over 48 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened for women, while more than 60 per cent of Mudra Yojana beneficiaries are women entrepreneurs. The creation of over 3 crore 'Lakhpati Didis' through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) is transforming rural economies. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, homes registered in women's names are providing not just shelter but also financial and social dignity. The fourth phase, Workplace Reforms and Legal Sensitivity, has introduced compassionate and inclusive governance measures. These include six-month paid childcare leave for women in government service, pension rights extended to unmarried or divorced dependent daughters, and maternity leave provisions even after stillbirths.
