DMK's student wing holds protest in Coimbatore against Palaniswami's remarks on temple funds
Led by student wing secretary R. Rajiv Gandhi, the protest saw participation from party MPs K. Prakash and Ganapathi P. Rajkumar, district secretaries, and office-bearers of the students' wing.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi said Mr. Palaniswami had remained silent during his tenure as Chief Minister on issues such as NEET and the National Education Policy, and was now criticising the use of temple funds without understanding their purpose. He alleged that the BJP was scripting Mr. Palaniswami's statements and accused him of aligning with RSS-backed narratives.
The protesters also criticised the withdrawal of scholarships that were earlier available to minority students under schemes named after A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Maulana Azad. They said the DMK government had stepped in to support the affected students.
Slogans were raised condemning Mr. Palaniswami and the Union government, with participants rejecting what they described as politically motivated narratives against the Dravidian model of governance.

Jagan slams Midhun Reddy's arrest, says it's ‘political conspiracy'
Vijayawada: Former chief minister and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has strongly condemned the arrest of party MP PV Midhun Reddy, calling it "politically motivated and illegal". He described the arrest as a deliberate attempt by the TDP-led govt to silence public representatives who stand by the people. Midhun Reddy, a three-time Lok Sabha member, has allegedly been falsely implicated through forced confessions. "This is a targeted act of political vendetta by the TDP govt to cover up its own scams and failures. The alleged liquor scam is nothing but a manufactured narrative, created purely for media theatrics and to divert attention from real issues. The entire case is built on statements extracted under pressure, threats, third-degree torture, and also through bribes and inducements," said Jagan on social media platform-X. 1 2 Madurai: A Chennai cyber crime police team on Sunday conducted inquiry with the 293rd pontiff of Madurai Adheenam, Sri La Sri Harihara Sri Gnana Sambandha Desika Swamigal, at the Adheenam mutt in Madurai in connection with the case against him for his alleged provocative remarks that could incite conflict between religious communities. The Adheenam had claimed a conspiracy to murder him, suggesting links to Pakistan and Muslim men, following a road accident at Ulundurpet in Kallakurichi on May 2. Though his claims were later found to be entirely false after a police investigation into the road accident involving his car, his claims had by then been widely shared on media and social media platforms. On Saturday, the Chennai principal sessions court granted the Adheenam conditional anticipatory ball. On Sunday, a Chennai cyber crime police team came to the mutt near Meenakshi Amman temple and conducted an inquiry with the Adheenam. His advocate told reporters that the Adheenam fully cooperated with the inquiry despite undergoing a surgery recently and suffering from illness.
