Asian under-23 champion Sujeet Kalkal toppled some established names on his way to secure the 65kg freestyle gold medal at the Ranking Series wrestling event in Budapest.
Sujeet, also a Worlds under-23 bronze medallist in 70kg, defeated Paris Olympics bronze medallist Albanian Islam Dudaev 11-0 in the first round, European silver medallist Frenchman Khamzat Arsamerzouev 11-0 in the quarterfinals and two-time Olympian and 2023 World championships bronze medallist Armenian Vazgen Tevanyan 6-1 in the semifinals.
In the final, the 22-year-old Indian – who had picked up a Grade-3 ligament ankle tear during the senior Asian championships in March – beat European bronze medallist Azerbaijan's Ali Rahimzade to secure his second gold medal of the year, after winning the Asian under-23 title about three weeks ago.
Sujeet bounced back from being down 1-0 at the break against Rahimzade, applying pressure early in the second period as he tallied five points to claim a stunning win.
This was Sujeet's second Ranking Series gold after the one he won in Tunisia three years ago.
Rahul (57kg) defeated 2023 European under-23 champion German Niklas Stechele 4-0 for the bronze.

ICC asks USA Cricket to hold elections within three months

The International Cricket Council (ICC) at its annual conference on Saturday kept USA Cricket (USAC) on notice and asked the board to undertake comprehensive governance reforms. 'The ICC reiterated its previous position and confirmed that the organisation remains on notice. USA Cricket is required to undertake comprehensive governance reforms, including but not limited to completing free and fair elections within a three-month period,' the apex body said in a statement. The ICC had issued a notice to USA Cricket in July last year for non compliance with its governance rules, after the country had co-hosted the T20 World Cup with West Indies. The move aims at USAC getting a 'national governing body' status from the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, which is a requisite for the sport to be included at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. News reports had stated that the ICC is working towards suspending the US board, but with cricket's return to the Olympics at stake, the ICC is extending a chance to USAC to set its house in order. Richard Rios set to join Benfica; medical scheduled for next week

Richard Rios, the 25-year-old Colombian midfielder, is set to join Portuguese giants Benfica, ending a prolonged transfer saga with AS Roma. After weeks of negotiations, particularly with Roma, Rios has chosen a move to Lisbon, according to reports. Benfica's sporting director, Rui Pedro Braz, finalized the deal with Palmeiras for €30 million, payable in three installments, according to Fabrizio Romano. Richard Rios is expected in Lisbon next week for a medical to complete his transfer to the Portuguese club. Richard Rios was a priority for Roma's manager Gian Piero Gasperini, but the midfielder's hesitation and Palmeiras' firm €30 million valuation led Roma to shift focus to RC Lens' Neil El Aynaoui. Benfica's offer of Champions League football was the key factor in attracting the player. It beat out interest from clubs like Wolverhampton, Nottingham Forest, Everton, and Zenit St Petersburg. Benfica president Rui Costa's direct talks with Rios, emphasizing his key role in the club's ambitious project, sealed the deal. Earlier, Richard Rios had decided to forgo his 10% transfer rights share. This further eased negotiations, highlighting his commitment to the move. Born June 2, 2000, in Vegachi, Colombia, Richard Rios has been a remarkable defensive midfielder at Palmeiras since 2022. Known for his dribbling, tenacity, and midfield control, he was named the best dribbler in the 2023 Brasileirao. His performances, including at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, drew European interest. With a €16 million market value, Rios is a high-potential signing for Benfica's 2025/26 campaign. Richard Rios is set to sign a five-year contract with Benfica, where fans eagerly await his impact in the Primeira Liga and European competitions. His move marks the end of a successful Palmeiras stint, including a Brasileirao title.
