Not €100m: How much Liverpool are ACTUALLY spending on Hugo Ekitike

Yahoo20-07-2025
This is how much Liverpool are really spending on Hugo Ekitike.
It's a summer of extravagance under Richard Hughes. After an underwhelming transfer period last summer, the club's sporting director is now delivering a genius window.
We've already seen him sign some exciting players and now Hughes has addressed a very important void in the squad with the signature of Ekitike.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Ekitike has been given the 'here we go' with everything by the two clubs for his transfer.
This agreement according to the journalist could be worth €95m in total. Some have suggested Frankfurt wanted as much as €100m.
However, it's important to note that this total sum includes add-ons, some will be achievable, some will be performance based so the reality of how much Liverpool have actually spent on Ekitike is actually far different to what it appears on the surface.
And a recent report in the reliable L'Equipe has confirmed that.
So, the initial upfront fee Liverpool are going to pay for Ekitike this summer is nowhere near €100m nor even €90m. In fact Liverpool could be getting him for an absolute bargain.
According to L'Equipe, Liverpool's upfront fee for Ekitike, which does not include bonuses and add-ons is only €78m, which is roughly £67m.
That's a figure that's not really being reported but it's coming from the most reliable sources from Ekitike's homeland. So, the chances are it's likely to be true.
And £67m makes the Frenchman an absolute bargain in the current market. Sure, there will be add-ons that could be worth around £15m as per the fee Fabrizio Romano which would rise as high as €95m, but all of that is based on factors that will determine Ekitike's success.
Liverpool will only have to pay the rest of the money if he plays a certain number of minutes, wins trophies, scores goals and etc. We don't quite know how the package looks like but it's guaranteed to include at least some of those criteria.
So in reality, the Reds have negotiated a decent fee for Ekitike. £67m for a player of his exciting potential is well worth the money. The extra £15m is something they will have to pay over the course of a few years, and only if Liverpool and Ekitike are successful.
For a club with the Reds' finances that extra £15m will not be a problem. Neither is the £67m fee, which is far cheaper than what Liverpool would have had to pay for Alexander Isak, who was being quoted around the £150m mark.
Now, is £67m a lot of money? In the grand scheme of things, yes. But in the current footballing landscape, where a Bryan Mbeumo, with one year left on his contract goes for more than that, Ekitike's price tag is pretty fair.

Walsall sign former Orient midfielder Warrington

Walsall have signed midfielder Lewis Warrington on a two-year contract after he left Leyton Orient. The 22-year-old began his career with Everton and played on loan for Tranmere, Fleetwood and Plymouth. He joined Orient last summer and spent the second half of last season on loan in League Two with Salford. He said: "I like to get on the ball and make us play but I do the other side really well as well, I love a tackle and I'm aggressive. "I've played a fair few games in this division and divisions higher as well so I'm quite experienced. I feel like I can help the team and go one better than last year. That's the main aim and I'm excited." The Saddlers lost the League Two play-off final to AFC Wimbledon last season and begin their campaign against Swindon on Saturday. Moderna lowers top end of revenue guidance as vaccine group targets cost cuts

- Moderna has lowered the top end of its full-year revenue forecast, citing a delay in the timing of deliveries of its COVID-19 jab to the United Kingdom, presenting a fresh setback for a company already aiming to slash expenses and boost recently tepid demand. The vaccine maker said it now anticipates that annual revenue will come in at $1.5 billion to $2.2 billion, compared to a prior estimate of $1.5 billion to $2.5 billion, flagging the impact of change in the expected date of the shipments to the first quarter of its next fiscal year from the second half of 2025. Bloomberg consensus estimates had called for guidance of $2.07 billion. Shares of Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) sank in premarket U.S. trading. The stock has slumped by more than 29% so far this year. Friday's announcement comes after Moderna announced a sweeping headcount reduction earlier this week that will see it slash around 10% of its global staff and have less than 5,000 employees by the end of the year. Moderna has been pushing to bring down costs as it grapples with flagging sales of its once mega-popular COVID-19 vaccines. Such cost-cutting efforts helped to bring overall operating expenses for the second quarter down by 35% versus a year ago to $1.05 billion. Bancel said Moderna now expects full-year operating expenses to be between $5.9 billion to $6.1 billion, an improvement of approximately $400 million from its prior outlook. Quarterly revenue, meanwhile, dropped by 41% to $142 million, but topped expectations for $108.5 million. Moderna's loss per share of $2.13 for the period was also less than analysts had anticipated. Curtiss-Wright Signs Strategic Partnership With Rolls-Royce SMR for Its Small Modular Reactor Technology

DAVIDSON, N.C., August 01, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) today announced that its UK-based Curtiss-Wright Nuclear business (formerly Ultra Energy) signed a multi-million dollar strategic partnership with Rolls-Royce SMR to deliver critical safety systems for its Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology. Under the contract, Curtiss-Wright will provide design, qualification, testing and supply of the non-programmable diverse Reactor Protection Systems for a global fleet of Rolls-Royce SMRs. Work under this agreement, including the design and implementation of Curtiss-Wright's Reactor Protection Systems, will be performed by Curtiss-Wright Nuclear's facility in Dorset, UK, supporting regional economic growth, as well as expanding the UK's nuclear skills, opportunities and capabilities. "We have a strong UK-based team focused on supporting this partnership and we're all excited to be part of the Rolls-Royce SMR story," said Ognjen Starovic, General Manager, Curtiss-Wright Nuclear. "We take great pride in helping to deliver a British SMR, as well as provide our people with new career opportunities and create long-term job growth in the region." Ruth Todd, Rolls-Royce SMR's Operations & Supply Chain Director, said: "We are delighted to begin this important and enduring partnership with Curtiss-Wright. Securing industry leading expertise will further de-risk our programme by underpinning a critical element of the design." The Rolls-Royce SMR will be the first new nuclear power station to be designed and built in the UK for more than a generation and offers a radically different approach based on proven technology. Each 'factory-built' nuclear power plant will provide enough affordable, low-carbon electricity to power a million homes for more than 60 years. In October 2024, Rolls-Royce SMR was selected by CEZ to deploy up to 3GW of electricity in the Czech Republic and in July 2025, Rolls-Royce SMR was selected as preferred bidder by Great British Energy – Nuclear to provide the UK's first SMRs. The Rolls-Royce SMR is progressing through the final stage of Assessment by the UK nuclear industry's independent regulators - further ahead than any other SMR in a European regulatory process. Non-programmable diverse Reactor Protection Systems are safety critical back-up instruments, designed to provide an independent means of shutting down a reactor. They are simple and robust, deploying proven-in-use electronic technology and techniques, while avoiding the use of microprocessors, software or programmable devices. Curtiss-Wright maintains one of the most comprehensive and diverse portfolios of advanced nuclear power equipment, technology, and services globally to support both operating reactors and new build opportunities.
