Egypt's enterprise agency injects EGP 2.2bn into Alexandria projects
Basel Rahmy stated that the financing, provided between July 2014 and May 2025, has created more than 110,000 jobs. Of the total funding, 102 million pounds were allocated to infrastructure, community development, and training projects, providing 718,000 workdays, he added.
Rahmy's comments came during a meeting with Alexandria's Governor, Ahmed Khaled, to discuss enhancing cooperation and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with a focus on industrial projects in areas like Borg El Arab and Merghem.
The meeting aligns with directives from Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to increase financial, technical, and non-financial services for citizens, particularly youth, women, and recent graduates, and to support productive clusters, Rahmy said.
He emphasized the agency's commitment to expanding access to financing for both existing and new projects, especiallyin the productive and industrial sectors, due to their importance to the national economy.
Rahmy also noted the agency's efforts to educate project owners about supportive laws, including Law 6 of 2025, which offers significant tax benefits. These include a simplified tax rate starting at 0.4% of annual turnover for projects up to half a million pounds, rising to 1.5% for turnover between 10 million and 20 million pounds, along with exemptions from various other taxes and duties.
For his part, Governor Khaled said that Alexandria possesses promising investment opportunities and is one of Egypt's most important industrial governorates. He added that the governorate is working to expand existing industrial activities and is cooperating effectively with MSMEDA to provide necessary financing and services to project owners.
Khaled affirmed the continued cooperation with the agency, particularly in formalising informal projects to enable them to benefit from the advantages offered by Law 152 of 2020 on SME development.
During the meeting, the governor and MSMEDA's chief executive presented direct lending cheques to five project owners and issued formalisation licenses and classification certificates to five others.

IMF to G20: Resolving Global Trade Tensions Safeguards Growth
Taarek Refaat The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has urged G20 finance ministers and central bank governors to give immediate attention to resolving global trade tensions, warning that prolonged friction poses a direct threat to global economic growth and financial stability. In a prepared statement published on the IMF's website, Gita Gopinath, First Deputy Managing Director, emphasized that policy uncertainty was a central theme at the third G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting held in South Africa. She stressed that effective international cooperation is key to overcoming ongoing challenges. 'The persistence of trade tensions, coupled with weakening demand and growing uncertainty, especially in the U.S. and China, has weighed down global growth prospects,' Gopinath said. According to the IMF's April projections, the global economy is expected to grow by just 2.8% in 2025 and 3.0% in 2026, well below the historical average of 3.7%. The Fund noted shifts in global trade patterns, such as accelerated imports ahead of tariff impositions, a pivot in trade flows toward new partners, and the positive impact of some trade agreements in lowering average tariffs and improving financial conditions. On inflation, Gopinath observed that slowing demand and energy prices have helped contain price pressures, although inflationary dynamics still vary significantly between countries. She called on policymakers to implement structural reforms, rebuild fiscal buffers, ensure public debt sustainability, preserve central bank independence, and tailor monetary policy to country-specific conditions. Regarding domestic revenue mobilization, Gopinath noted that low-income countries could boost revenues by up to 7% of GDP if they fully harness their tax potential. The IMF reiterated its commitment to supporting efforts to improve public spending efficiency, strengthen government investment management, and enhance state institutions, especially in light of constrained fiscal environments and the pursuit of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The message from the IMF is clear: resolving trade tensions and reinforcing macroeconomic fundamentals is critical to restoring investor confidence, ensuring stability, and unlocking long-term, inclusive global growth. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language

Moscow Warns EU-Russia Trade Could Fall to 'Zero'
Taarek Refaat Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko has warned that trade between Russia and the European Union could decline to virtually "zero", continuing a steep downward spiral driven by sanctions and political tensions. Speaking at a meeting with students and professors at Altai State University, Grushko highlighted the collapse in trade volumes, noting that commerce once valued at $417 billion in 2013 had shrunk to $60 billion in 2024, and is now projected to fall to around $40 billion in 2025. 'It is very likely that trade could drop to zero,' he said, according to Russia's Sputnik news agency. Grushko accused the EU of employing economic coercion as part of a broader hybrid war against Russia, citing the imposition of nearly 19,000 sanctions. He predicted a complete European phase-out of Russian oil, gas, and nuclear fuel, even for nuclear power plants originally built by the Soviet Union or Russia that remain operational in Europe. On the same day, the European Union Council announced its 18th package of sanctions against Russia, targeting 14 individuals and 41 legal entities involved in Russia's energy, banking, and defense sectors. For the first time, a ship captain and a private international shipping company were also sanctioned. In response, Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), criticized the EU's approach, arguing that Europe was hurting its own economy more than Russia's. Writing on Telegram, Dmitriev claimed, 'European elites fear peace and remain trapped in hostile rhetoric that is destroying the EU economy with their own hands.' Dmitriev further asserted that sanctions had become self-defeating, stating that Brussels was depriving its own citizens of stable energy supplies and closing off access to the Russian market for European companies. He reiterated the RDIF's stance in favor of dialogue over escalation, emphasizing that nearly 30,000 sanctions have already been imposed on Russia, yet have failed to force a change in its national policy. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin floated the idea of energy cooperation with the United States that could, hypothetically, lead to the construction of a new gas pipeline to Europe. Speaking at a press conference alongside Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in March, Putin said, 'If the U.S. and Russia can agree on energy cooperation, a pipeline to Europe is possible. This would allow access to affordable Russian gas, which could benefit the continent.' However, such proposals remain hypothetical amid a climate of deep mistrust and diplomatic isolation between Moscow and Western powers. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language
