'Govt's fashion to protect criminals and lathi-charges students': Tejashwi Yadav
NEW DELHI: Police in Bihar's Patna on Tuesday lathi-charged aspirants holding a sit-in protest for the release of supplementary results of the Teacher Recruitment Exam (TRE-3).Carrying placards, a large number of protesters sat outside Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar's official residence, a high-security zone where no demonstration is allowed. They raised slogans against the state government and the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), which conducted the exam.Police requested the protesters to disperse and resorted to lathi-charge when they refused, news agency PTI reported.Protesters alleged several persons were injured in the police action. However, officials denied this claim.Kriti Dutta, one of the candidates, said they had been protesting for the past four months."We have approached everybody, from ministers to secretaries and MLAs but none provided us with any solution," Dutta was quoted as saying."The education minister had assured us that a letter had been sent to BPSC regarding the issue. But nothing has been done so far," another candidate said.BPSC conducted TRE-3 in March 2024 for 87,774 posts. However, only around 51,000 candidates have received their appointment letters so far.RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav condemned the lathi-charge and expressed his solidarity with the protesting aspirants. In a post on X, Yadav wrote, "We condemn police action on protesters today. When the youth demand justice, their voice is ruthlessly crushed... it has become the fashion of the NDA governments at the Centre and the state to crush the voice of the youth.""Students were protesting in a democratic manner today. This incompetent government nurtures and protects criminals and the corrupt, while it unleashes lathi charges on students, youths, and the unemployed. This is the time... people of the state should unite to change this incompetent government in the coming assembly polls in the state," he added.Bihar will go to polls later this year.

Dalit woman gang-raped, fiance assaulted in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi; 3 arrested

A 20-year-old Dalit woman, who had gone out with her fiance in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district, was allegedly raped by four men who also assaulted her male partner, said a police official on Wednesday. The police immediately registered a case on the duo's complaint and sent them to a community health centre in Semaria for treatment, said the ASP. (Pexels/Representative) Four persons were involved in the gang-rape and three of them have been arrested, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Arvind Srivastava told PTI. Five police teams have been deployed to nab the absconding accused, he informed. He said the victim, a resident of an area under Churhat police station limits, had gone out with her fiance on Tuesday. After parking their motorcycle on the roadside near Kathoutha, they went to a nearby hill. Four men roaming in the area spotted the couple. They beat up the woman's fiance and chased him away, said the police officer. "After this, the accused took turns to rape the woman," Srivastava stated. The official said after escaping from the clutches of the accused, the woman contacted her fiance and both of them reached the Semaria police station where they narrated the horrific incident to cops. The police immediately registered a case on the duo's complaint and sent them to a community health centre in Semaria for treatment, said the ASP. The opposition Congress targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over the gang-rape incident and added the crime has exposed the sorry state of law and order situation in Madhya Pradesh. State Congress president Jitu Patwari said the shameful incident tarnishes the entire humanity and also highlights the 'horrific state' of law and order. "In the last three years alone, 7,418 incidents of rape of Dalit and tribal women, 338 gang-rapes and 558 murders have been registered in Madhya Pradesh. On an average, seven Dalit or tribal daughters are becoming victims of this cruelty every day. These figures prove the failure of the BJP government," the former minister maintained. Patwari alleged that due to inaction on part of the BJP government, crimes have increased in the state and victims are not getting justice.

Bizarre! ‘Donald Trump' of Bihar's Hasanpur village applies for residence certificate ahead of election

In a bizarre trend ahead of the state elections, 'Donald Trump,' a resident of Hasanpur village in Samastipur district, has applied for a residence certificate in Bihar. According to the news agency PTI, a prankster posing as the American president applied for the Bihar residence certificate online on July 29. And surely enough, the person had his research on point. The applicant, posing as 'Donald Trump,' a resident of Hasanpur village, said his parents' names were Frederick Christ Trump and Mary Anne MacLeod, the same as the father and mother of the US President, respectively. However, the district administration ordered lodging of an FIR so that the mischief monger could be tracked down and brought to book. In a statement, the administration said the revenue department official concerned 'turned it down on August 4'. 'It appears there is a diabolical attempt to negatively impact the special intensive revision of electoral rolls which is underway as per the instructions of the Election Commission,' the administration stated. The Samastipur administration also said, 'In view of the seriousness of the offence, a case has been lodged at the Cyber police station, Samastipur, for appropriate investigation and action.' Donald Trump was the fourth incident of its kind reported in the state since the Election Commission began its mammoth exercise in June. Recently, applications were received in rural Patna and Nawada in the name of canines named 'dog babu,' and 'dogesh babu,' respectively. In East Champaran district, an application was received in the name of 'Sonalika tractor,' with the photograph of a Bhojpuri actress. Applications in all the aforementioned cases have been rejected, and FIRs were lodged at the police stations concerned. Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala shared a news clip that said 'certificate has been issued' in favour of the application. 'This is the biggest proof that electoral roll revision in Bihar is a fraud, aimed at stealing votes,' Surjewala said. He said, 'Keeping quiet in such a situation is a crime. Let us all raise our voices and become watchdogs of democracy.' The Samastipur administration explained to Surjewala that the certificate has never been issued. 'Somebody has deliberately made such an application and it was rejected during scrutiny. An FIR has also been lodged. The guilty will not be spared,' they shared, correcting the politician.
