TARATDAC members seek better monthly assistance
TARATDAC members affiliated to National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) demanded the pension under the Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme be raised. They said the pension amount was ₹300 and demanded the amount be raised to ₹5,000 a month.
They said that the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, defined benchmark disability as a person with not less than 40% of a specified disability. However, under the scheme, the person to get the benefits under the scheme should have 80% disability.
Also, a person should be above 18 years to get the benefits under the scheme. The criteria should be relaxed and all beneficiaries who apply for the benefits under the scheme should be considered. As of now, it only covers 3.84 % of the total differently abled population, they said, adding that more such persons should receive the benefits under the scheme.
The members also sought employment under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme. It must be ensured that the differently abled are also included, they said.
The Rajasthan government had passed the Rajasthan Minimum Guaranteed Income Act guaranteeing 125 days of employment. A similar Act should be passed in Tamil Nadu for the welfare of the people, the members said. The members also demanded that 35 kg of foodgrains under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) scheme should be ensured and the scheme was implemented properly.
The members urged the Centre and the State government to look into the demands and take necessary steps to fulfil the charter of demands. Following the demonstration, they submitted a petition at the Dindigul MP office.

CM says Karnataka will take up issue of GST notices to small traders with Centre
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday said the State government will take up with the Centre the issue of small traders getting GST notices from the Commercial Taxes Department for transactions through UPI. He also made it clear that the issue would be discussed with the State Commercial Taxes Department before making a decision in this regard. 'The Goods and Sales Tax (GST) Council comes under the purview of the Centre. However, the State government will take up the matter with the Union government and discuss it with the State's Commercial Taxes Department, and take a decision,' Mr. Siddaramaiah told presspersons in Mysuru. It may be noted that a section of the small and micro traders in the State have taken exception to getting notices with respect to taxes based on their transactions via UPI. Meanwhile, asking the small traders not to worry about the GST-related notices, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar accused the Union government of creating trouble for small traders and street vendors by introducing GST. 'Notices are being issued to those who are conducting business of over ₹40 lakh,' he said in Hoskote, near here, where an event was organised to distribute government benefits. He said: 'This is the achievement of the Union government. The traders do not have to worry. We will take necessary actions to protect their interests.' The Deputy Chief Minister said though the State had appealed to the Centre several times seeking funds over the last two years, the BJP MPs are not speaking. 'They are not concerned about the poor in the State.' Accusing the BJP of not doing enough, he said that the Congress government was committed to getting Yettinahole waters to Bengaluru North district before 2027 and the government had decided to prepare a DPR to bring metro to Hoskote. 'We will ensure it is approved during our term.' Mr. Shivakumar also pointed out that the government had taken steps to regularise B-khata properties in Bengaluru, and that over a crore patta khatas are being given to Scheduled Tribes.

BJP's TN unit slams DMK over 'civic decay', terms state as den of diseases
Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Nainar Nagenthiran launched a scathing attack on the DMK government on Sunday, accusing it of gross administrative failure and claiming that the state has been reduced to a "den of diseases" despite tall claims of progress. In a strongly worded statement, Nagenthiran criticised the DMK for boasting about a "golden era" under its governance, even as basic civic infrastructure across the state, particularly in major cities, continues to deteriorate. He pointed to the recent Swachh Survekshan 2024 rankings, the Centre's annual cleanliness survey, which placed Chennai and Madurai at the bottom of the list among cities with populations of over one million. Chennai ranked 38th and Madurai 40th out of 40 cities. "This is nothing short of a shameful reflection of the DMK's governance model. While the government celebrates a so-called Dravidian model, our cities are drowning in filth and our people are battling disease," he said. The state BJP president further questioned the efficacy of the thousands of crores of rupees reportedly spent on sanitation efforts. "If not a single city from Tamil Nadu features in the top ten cleanest cities in India, where is the outcome of these huge expenditures? What happened to the tall claims?" he asked. Highlighting rising cases of communicable diseases, deteriorating public health systems, and the crumbling condition of government hospitals, Nagenthiran said the situation on the ground paints a grim picture. He alleged rampant corruption in urban administration, claiming that civic bodies have failed to address even basic issues such as garbage clearance, sanitation, and public hygiene. "When garbage piles up in every corner, when government hospitals lack even basic facilities, and when crimes continue to surge, where exactly is the governance?" the BJP leader asked. Calling for accountability, he urged the DMK government to apologise to the people of Tamil Nadu and the nation at large for what he termed an utter failure on the governance front. The statement is part of the BJP's increasing criticism of the DMK ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, with sanitation, urban development, and health infrastructure emerging as key political battlegrounds.
