SAG Awards: Timothee Chalamet, Demi Moore, 'Conclave' win
USA TODAY's Ralphie Aversa recaps the 2025 SAG Awards, where the Oscar chances for Timothée Chalamet, Demi Moore and "Conclave" were helped.
Who knew the hardest thing about an awards show acceptance speech could be holding the trophy?
While some stars opt for bold political statements and others let tears or expletives flow, during Sunday night's Screen Actor's Guild ceremony, Kieran Culkin opted for some humor.
After winning the award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a supporting role for his work in "A Real Pain," Culkin remarked on the weight of the green actor statue.
"Thank you for this incredibly heavy award,' he said. "I don't think there's any way anyone can hold this for 45 seconds."
"It is funny that the heaviest of all the awards is the one that's given by actors," he joked, ad-libbing about a meeting of actors deciding the statue needed more "heft."

The speech echoed a wave of other jokes made by winners throughout the night.
"Jesus, Kieran was right!" quipped Demi Moore, who won for her role in "The Substance."

"It is very heavy!" confirmed Anna Sawai, who won in the drama series category for her work on "Shōgun," before her co-star Hiroyuki Sanada pretended to drop the statue from its sheer weight.
After the show, Selena Gomez joked to photographers: "Guys, I can't carry it anymore," bending her arms to show the statue was exhausting her muscles.
The award weighs about 12 pounds, according to Entertainment Weekly, a few pounds more than both the Oscar and Emmy statues.
Kieran Culkin takes friendly jab at Adrien Brody during SAG Awards speech
Culkin's comedy routine didn't stop there though − the "Succession" star also took a friendly jab at his fellow nominee Adrien Brody, joking that Brody always exceeds the allotted time given for acceptance speeches.
Brody was nominated for "The Brutalist," though the best actor award went to Timothée Chalamet for "A Complete Unknown."

Making clear the statement was made in jest, Culkin laughed before adding "There was no reason to take that shot. I love you. Take your time." Brody seemed unbothered by the comment, laughing along when cameras panned to him in the audience.
Both Culkin and Brody are being recognized for their work in films that explore the Holocaust and themes of Jewish exile.
In "A Real Pain," Culkin plays a grandson who takes a trip to Poland alongside his cousin (played by Jesse Eisenberg) to honor their late grandmother. The film is a sort of buddy comedy, which serves as a stark juxtaposition against the backdrop of dark family history and genocide.

Culkin has already nabbed a Golden Globe, a Critic's Choice Award and a Spirit Award for his work on the project.
"The Brutalist" on the other hand takes a much more serious approach, following a Jewish architect (Brody) as he tries to rebuild his life in America after escaping Europe in the aftermath of WWII. With the Oscars looming large as the final stop on the awards ceremony circuit, "The Brutalist" is favored to win in several categories.

Sophie Turner Ended Celeb's Engagement: Theories
Turns out, a wave from Sophie Turner wields a lot of power. On a recent appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Sophie and Seth reminisced on how they first met at a Comic-Con afterparty in 2014, during Sophie's Game of Thrones days. However, Sophie said of the evening, "That night was actually quite crazy for me. It went really south really quickly". She continued, "We were going to have a great night. I really can't name names or I'll get in a lot of trouble, but I brought my best friend from my school days with me and she saw this actor that she loved. And she obviously just goes to me, 'Can you say hi?'" "I didn't know this actor," Sophie continued, noting that she simply gave him a wave from across the room. "That was it." 'Later on, I see this girl looking at me and she's a famous actress. I was like, 'Oh, I have to go and tell her how much she means to me.'" "So, I dance on over and she goes, 'Can you stop fucking flirting with my fiancé?'" Sophie recalled. "I was like, 'Who's your fiancé?' She points at the guy I'd waved at. I went, 'I have no idea who this man is.'" "Turns out, I think they broke their engagement off that night. Because of my [wave]. I didn't realize I held this power," she added. When Seth pointed out that most people intentionally trying to break up a couple likely wouldn't then "dance" over to the gal in question, Sophie replied, "I think she thought I was rubbing it in." So, who is the couple in question? It looks like the party Sophie is referring to is Entertainment Weekly's Annual Comic Con Celebration, which she also attended with Maisie Williams. As some on Reddit have pointed out, Emma Roberts was also in attendance that night. At the time, she was on-and-off-again with her American Horror Story costar Evan Peters, who seemingly attended the party but didn't walk the red carpet. And Emma was then photographed after said party, crying and being consoled by friends — though it's not clear exactly what went down. A split in their engagement was reported in the summer of the following year, though they were seemingly back together a few months later. What do you make of the speculation? LMK in the comments!

How Darren Aronofsky Tried To Turn Mila Kunis & Natalie Portman Against Each Other
If you can believe it, it's nearly been 15 years since Black Swan came out. Now, celebrating the milestone in an interview with Vogue, the stars behind the classic have spilled some behind-the-scenes details. For context, the 2010 movie stars Natalie Portman as Nina, a top ballerina who is preparing to play both the White Swan, Odette, and the Black Swan, Odile, in Swan Lake. As she struggles to tap into her darker side for Odile, Nina risks losing the part to another top ballet dancer named Lily, who is played by Mila Kunis. The film got five Academy Award nominations and earned Natalie an Oscar for Best Actress in 2011. If you've seen it, you'll know Nina and Lily have a complicated rivalry in the film, and speaking to Vogue, director Darren Aronofsky recalled his attempts to bring some of that tension into the real world. 'I was trying to be a sneaky director and make them argue,' he said, when asked about a claim that he 'tried to pit Natalie and Mila against each other.' 'Mila and Natalie both realized very quickly what I was doing and made fun of me, so it quickly became a joke that we all understood. They're both very clever and were instantly privy to whatever trick I was playing.' On X, Darren's quotes have received a bit of backlash, with people suggesting that his 'manipulative' and 'weird' scheme sought to undermine Natalie and Mila's skills as actors. 'they should be equipped enough to create any necessary rivalry on screen,' one user wrote. 'there's no need for mind games behind the scenes when they are meant to ACT like there is drama or tension.' 'What a bizarrely cutesy sheen this language puts on 'I tried to gaslight the two women working for me into fighting cause I thought it would make my movie better and didn't care at all about their actual human psyches,'' someone else wrote, adding that 'two less experienced actresses might have fallen for it.' Despite this, Mila and Natalie's recollections of the situation indicate that there was no harm done, and that they both enjoyed working with Darren very much — despite his reputation as a 'scary' and 'intense' director. 'I remember being separated from Mila and that we weren't in the same space a lot when we weren't shooting,' Natalie remembered. 'Darren made some comment early on, like, 'Ya know, Nat, Mila's dancing so well.' And I was like, 'Of course she is! She's so fucking talented and I love her so much and I'm happy she's doing a great job!'' 'Black Swan was the first time I felt like I had a mind meld with a director, where each of us always knew exactly what to say,' she continued. 'Every time we talked it felt like he gave me a little key that unlocked a scene for me.' Similarly, Mila knew better than to fall for the mind games. 'Darren would tell me, 'Nat is working really, really hard. She's not even taking Saturdays and Sundays off.' Then I would text Nat and she'd be like, '...No, I'm not?'' she recalled. 'I think that's how we figured out what Darren was up to, but it was all in good fun.' 'I remember doing press for Black Swan and every journalist wanted to know how scary Darren was: 'How intense was his set? How intense was he?'' Mila went on. 'I would say, 'He's actually a really kind, lovely guy who took us to see Twilight one time because we had the day off.' And journalists were always so disappointed that he wasn't some tortured soul who treated us like garbage.' At numerous points in the interview, Mila and Natalie highlight their close friendship, which dates back years before they even starred together in Black Swan. In fact, it was Natalie who first suggested Mila should be cast alongside her. And Darren really thought he could get these two to hate each other? Think again. Do you love all things TV and movies?
