Millena Brandão, a young Brazilian actress best known for her role in Netflix's Sintonia, has died at the age of 11. Her parents, Thays and Luiz Brandão, confirmed the tragic news in an emotional statement shared on social media.
Millena Brandão's parents pen heartbreaking note
In a heartfelt message posted to Instagram on May 3, Millena's parents shared their deep grief and paid tribute to their daughter's short but joyful life.
'On May 2nd we lost our little girl, but I'm sure she's in the arms of our almighty father and in a beautiful place to play,' they wrote. 'The memories we spent together will remain in my memory and I'll never forget your joy that was contagious to everyone around you.'
They added, 'You were the light in our lives and I know that from up there you'll continue to watch over us and light up our lives… I love you my girl 12/27/2013 to 05/02/2025.'
Millena's parent reveal her health battle
Following her death, Millena's parents revealed details about the health battle she had faced in recent months. According to her mother, Thays, the young actress experienced symptoms such as headaches, appetite loss, difficulty walking, and eventually, repeated hospitalizations.
Why Millena parents decide to take her off life support?
As her condition worsened, Millena began suffering multiple cardiac arrests daily—up to three per day, with a total of 13—along with respiratory failures. Doctors discovered an undetermined mass on her brain, though no official diagnosis was made.
'She had never had that before. There was one day when she had seven respiratory arrests,' Thays told Brazilian outlet G1. 'Sometimes they gave her massages and other times they gave her shocks with a defibrillator.'
Millena was eventually intubated and did not regain consciousness. Her parents, also raising a 2-year-old, made the heartbreaking choice to take her off life support.
'I said that if we were to let her little heart stop beating on its own, we would suffer more, and so would she,' Thays said. 'And we asked for the machines to be turned off.'
Her official cause of death has not yet been determined.
Remembering Millena
On May 5, her parents posted a video montage of Millena through the years on Instagram. The caption read: 'Our eternal angel went to shine in the sky. I will miss you forever my girl, may you take care of us and protect us from all evil.'
Despite her young age, Millena left a lasting impression on audiences and those who knew her. Her work in Sintonia earned her recognition, but it was her joyful spirit and warmth that her family says will live on in their hearts.
Millena began her acting career in October 2023, making her debut on SBT (Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão). She appeared in A Infância de Romeu e Julieta, A Caverna Encantada, and later gained wider recognition for her role in Netflix's Sintonia.

That is what this Korean woman was doing while visiting Turkey, but it led to her getting a warning from the authorities, who told her that the particular sign is banned in the country. The video, however, has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some Turkish people claiming they have never heard about the ban on the sign. It's amazing how I get to learn a new culture and manner whenever I travel.' In the video, she poses for a selfie while showing the peace sign. However, two men instantly call her out and tell her that the sign is banned in Turkey and that she shouldn't flash it. When asked why, one of the men says, 'In your culture, it means peace, but unfortunately in Turkey, it is raised about terrorism,' leaving the Korean woman visibly shocked. Curious, Tyongee asks the men if a mini heart sign is allowed, and they say that she can flash that popular sign. Social media had a lot to say: While many expressed surprise, some claiming to be Turkish said they were unaware of the sign ban. An individual posted, 'I like that they actually explained to her very calmly.' Another asked, 'But why is it related to terrorism?' An individual replied, 'This symbol is frequently used by the terrorist organisation called the PKK, which has caused the deaths of many civilians in Turkey. Because of this, it may provoke negative reactions from civilians in Turkey.' A third remarked, 'As a Turkish, I have never heard that a sign is banned. They just made it up... It must be their personal thoughts. We use it and it's super common.' A fourth wrote, 'They were respectful, and the girl was respectful. That's how people should talk every time.'
