The wait is over: Costco opens early in Stuart, with about 1,000 in line
STUART — The waiting game came to an end at 7:30 a.m. April 25 as about 1,000 people, some who had been in line since before dawn, filed into the new Costco store following more than a decade of delay.
People were in line as early 5:15 a.m. A massive crowd stood waiting at the front of the store before the doors opened, but the line snaked around past the tire center and even further, into the parking lot, before opening.
Christopher Milu, first customer in the new Costco Wholesale in Stuart at 3173 S. Kanner Highway, exits the store after purchasing some of his favorite items on April 25, 2025. The store opened at 7:30 a.m. to a crowd lined up outside. Milu was first in line with a shopping cart.
Costco's first customer
Stuart resident Christopher Milu was the first shopper to set foot inside. The first to line up, Milu spent his morning catching up on LinkedIn while he waited, he said.
'I'm an early guy,' Milu said. 'My wife thinks I am crazy.'
Milu came out with what he described as "man stuff": beef jerky, ribs and steak. His wife will come back for toiletries, fruits and vegetables, he said.
"We've been waiting," he said. "Now we're happy it's here."
Costco's first purchase
Port St. Lucie resident Michelle Lynch was the first person out of the store. She was on her way to see her husband at work.
"I was here for the pizza," she said as she carried a slice of cheese pizza. Lynch was in line at 5:58 a.m.
Shopping cart: Golf clubs, eggs and pasta
Maria Coradini, a self-described snowbird from New Jersey living in Port St. Lucie, was pushing a shopping cart with two sets of golf clubs, a carton of two dozen eggs and boxes of pasta.
'Before the opening here, I used to go to the (Costco store) in Melbourne,' she said. 'And it is quite far from Port St. Lucie.'

Costco free samples ranked
David Deliz, of Palm City, ranked his top three favorite free samples on the store's opening day.
'The ribeye is excellent, the chicken sausage is pretty good and this…' Deliz said, before taking a bite of a chicken alfredo with penne pasta sample, 'is delicious.'
He's been to Costco Wholesale stores at least 500 times, he said.

'I've been coming to Costco forever. I wanted this thing to be opened in '16' in Palm City, he said. 'They should have gone to Port St. Lucie, but that's OK.'
He wanted to get some bourbon, but the line to the liquor store was too long, he said. Instead, he bought golf clubs and shrimp.
His son called him as he was being interviewed.
'Do you want anything from Costco?' he asked on the phone. 'It's a zoo right now.'

Janet Rogers enjoys Costco's $1.50 hot-dog-and-soda combo in the new Costco that opened 8 a.m. April 25, 2025, in Stuart, 3173 S. Kanner Hwy.
$1.50 hot dog-and-soda combo
Janet Rogers sat down to enjoy a hot dog around 9 a.m. It was a snack break after a crowded, chaotic shopping experience at Costco, Rogers said.
'It was an outing. It was an experience,' she said.
She applied mustard and relish to the hot dog that she got at the food court.
'It's a great hot dog,' she said. 'Did you know Costco sells more hot dogs than all the baseball stadiums combined?'
Inspired by 'Costco Guys'
So was the chicken bake as exciting as viral sensation Costco Guys made it out to be?
'Absolutely, 100%,' said Sara Anderson, of Stuart. 'I've been an OG chicken baker, but they reignited my passion.'
The chicken bake is a handheld pocket filled with chicken, cheese, Caesar dressing and bacon baked inside a crispy, golden-brown crust.
'I would say it's like a pot pie — but not really,' she said. 'It reminds me of that because of the breading on the outside and the chicken on the inside.'
Publix loses a customer
'We love Costco,' said Julie Pfeffer, 55, of Stuart, who was with her husband Paul, 65.
The couple got everything they wanted but are planning to come back for a garden shed.
'I'm never, ever going to Publix again,' she said.

Parking tickets but no comment from Costco
The 1,725-space parking lot appeared full by about 8:15 a.m. as people were driving around, waiting for the earliest shoppers to leave. Customers even parked illegally along the curb.
Later in the morning, Stuart police wrote tickets for illegal parking along SE Legacy Way, a new street which connects Kanner Highway with Willoughby Boulevard, spokesperson Brian Bossio said.
Store Assistant General Manager James Stedham declined to comment on the store's first day of operation and the opening-day crowd, some of whom waited more than two hours for the door to open.

Costco members sound off as Pepsi-to-Coke switch begins nationwide
Costco members are split over the recent move by the wholesaler to transition from selling Pepsi to exclusively Coca-Cola products. The switch, which elicited a mixed response from customers on Reddit, was finalized this week with a complete Coca-Cola takeover appearing in Costco food courts across the country. 'Companies do this all the time, Subway just switched to Pepsi from Coke,' one Reddit user noted earlier this month. 'I know I just noticed this the other day and was very sad I couldn't get my usual Pepsi with the hot dog,' another wrote on social media. The company used to serve Coca-Cola before it made the switch to Pepsi products in 2013 to maintain the price of its signature $1.50 hot dog combo, CNN reported. Elsewhere, consumers have been praising and bemoaning the change, which began being rolled out in early July across several Costcos. 'I went twice and didn't get a hot dog because Coke just isn't it. Nothing beats a Pespi max cherry,' another Reddit user wrote furiously. A frustrated shopper in Glasgow said, 'Same in Glasgow, believe Iron Bru [an iconic Scottish soda] is also no longer an option, potentially dark days ahead [...]' All of Costco's food courts will be stocked solely with Coca-Cola products by the fall. In January, the wholesaler announced it would ditch Pepsi for the commander-in-chief's favourite soda brand after selling the competition's products for over a decade. When asked by a shareholder at the time about the upcoming changes to the corporation, Costco CEO Ron Vachris said, 'This summer we will be converting our food court fountain business back over to Coca-Cola.' Rumors of the change had been swirling ahead of the announcement at the time. Equally, Costco's CFO reassured customers last year not to worry about inflation compromising the price of the combo, confirming that the $1.50 price was 'safe,' reported CNN. "Coke vs. Pepsi has always been a cultural dividing line, like Yankees vs. Red Sox or Apple vs. PC," Manhattan-based psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert told FOX Business. 'People attach memories, family traditions, and even a sense of who they are to a brand. So when Costco suddenly took sides, it triggered a reaction far bigger than soda itself.' The Independent contacted Costco, Pepsi, and Coca-Cola for comment.

Labor Day: What's open, what's closed
Labor Day might have begun as a holiday for workers, but a lot of workers won't get the day off in 2025 — especially retail employees. USA Today reported on July 30 that most major retailers will be open Monday. The one exception will be Costco. 'This holiday, often seen as the final farewell to summer, is usually jam-packed with fantastic end-of-the-season deals,' the publication said. 'The most sought-after Labor Day deals are typically found on big-ticket items like mattresses appliances and furniture (especially outdoor patio sets, equipment and grills.' The holiday also offers sales on electronics and apparel, including summer clearances, according to USA Today. While retail employees labor away, most government offices, the U.S. Post Office and banks will be closed. What restaurants are open on Labor Day? A Reader's Digest survey indicated major restaurant chains that will be open are: Applebee's Buffalo Wild Wings Chili's Cracker Barrel IHOP Jimmy John's Olive Garden Red Lobster Texas Roadhouse Hours may vary depending on location. The survey indicates most fast food chains will also be open. Where are the origins of Labor Day? The U.S. Labor Department said Labor Day is an 'annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers.' The department said the holiday is rooted in the late 1800s when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the contributions of American workers. Several states began recognizing a labor holiday in 1887. President Grover Cleveland signed a law in 1894 that made it a national holiday. The National Constitution Center said the first Labor Day celebration focused on parades, and the holiday has become publicly perceived as the end of the summer season. The center said in an earlier time, etiquette authority Emily Post declared it a fashion no-no to wear white after Labor Day because it showed you were in vacation mode at your summer cottage. 5 LinkedIn Mistakes Coaches Make That Keep Them Invisible To Their Dream Clients
Look at your LinkedIn feed right now. Count how many coaches sound exactly the same. They use the same profile structure, share similar vanilla posts, and add zero personality in their comments. They're spending time on LinkedIn but they're not winning clients. They're making themselves a commodity online. If you covered up their names, you couldn't tell them apart. Coaches who break free from this pattern build real influence and attract clients who value what makes them unique. In 2024 I quadrupled my LinkedIn following from 7k to 30k. I learned how to stand out on LinkedIn, to pass the teachings onto you. The main shift? Not being afraid to stand out. Every coach who wins on LinkedIn does something different from everyone else. They take risks, say what they think, and give their future clients reasons to stop scrolling. Stop making these visibility-killing LinkedIn mistakes Most coaches treat LinkedIn like their personal journal. They write 200 words when 20 would work better. Their hook gets buried in paragraph three. They wonder why engagement stays flat. Get to your point in line one. Your first sentence determines whether anyone reads further. Posts with images receive twice the engagement rate, but even the best image can't save a weak opening. Write your hook and rehook, then scrutinize the words. Make every sentence earn its place. LinkedIn isn't your masterclass. Coaches who try cramming their entire methodology into one post lose their audience before paragraph two. Nobody wants an entire coaching textbook in their feed. Pick one specific insight and double down. Go deep, not broad. Share how you helped Jessica overcome pricing anxiety. Explain the exact question that unlocked Tom's breakthrough. Your focused message reaches potential coaching clients when it delivers value without overwhelming readers. "Helping people unlock their potential" could describe any coach on LinkedIn. Vague promises won't work for the success you have in mind. Your ideal clients can't picture how you'd help them specifically. Replace abstract concepts with concrete results. Instead of "empowering leaders," say "helping tech CEOs delegate without losing control." Specificity helps you stand out. Name the exact problem you solve and who you solve it for. Posting once a month kills your momentum. Your audience forgets you exist. The LinkedIn algorithm stops showing your content. You're starting from zero every time you return. Get people used to seeing your name. Set a sustainable rhythm and stick to it. Send three quality posts per week at an absolute minimum. Your consistency builds trust while keeping you visible to the people who need your help. Likes feel good but they don't pay bills. Too many coaches chase vanity metrics with inspirational quotes and feel-good posts. They get hearts and thumbs up while their calendars stay empty. Write content that moves people toward working with you. Share your coaching sprint process. Break down your decision-making framework. Give readers something they can use today while showing them what's possible with your help. Serve your audience while subtly demonstrating your expertise. Transform your LinkedIn presence into a client magnet You're not boring. You're playing it too safe. The coaches winning on LinkedIn take calculated risks with their content. They share unpopular opinions backed by experience. They tell stories that reveal their humanity. They give their audience permission to think differently. Stop hiding behind safe content and watch your influence grow. Get the LinkedIn profile structure that wins you coaching clients.
