It's mad – Ethan Williams in dreamland after first senior goal for Man Utd

The 19-year-old academy product ended last season on loan at Cheltenham, scoring two goals in 17 appearances during a fruitful spell in League Two.
Williams had expected to spend much of this summer working with the Under-21s, only for Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim to last week give him the nod for their pre-season tour to the United States.

A whirlwind week peaked on Wednesday night in Chicago, where he replaced Amad Diallo in the 70th minute and went onto score a fine strike in a promising 4-1 win over Bournemouth.
'It's mad, I can't believe it,' Williams said. 'It still hasn't really sunk in, to be honest. It's a dream come true and I'm so happy right now.
'I'm thinking about all the moments, all the hard work I've been through,' he said. 'You know, I feel so blessed and so happy to be given this opportunity.
'To score, it's mad. I can't even explain how I am feeling, to be honest.'
Williams was an unused substitute in their first Premier League Summer Series friendly against West Ham at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where next year's World Cup final will be held.

It is a position the winger did not expect to find himself in at the start of last week, when he was primed to stay home having been an unused substitute in the senior side's pre-season opener against Leeds.
'It was last-minute,' Williams told club media. 'I was kind of told I wasn't (going) and then I was.
'I remember just… not really jumping around the bedroom, but I was buzzing.
'I've been trying to train well as these guys are the best players I've ever trained with, know what I mean? To be around it and be learning every single day is a real blessing and I'm just thankful for it all.'

Mikel Arteta makes Viktor Gyokeres admission after noticing reaction to Arsenal team-mates

Viktor Gyokeres was subbed after an hour but Mikel Arteta has no doubts he'll be in a position to hit the ground running this season, starting against Manchester United Mikel Arteta insists Viktor Gyokeres will be "100 per cent" mentally ready to kickstart Arsenal's Premier League campaign with a bang against Manchester United. The Swede huffed and puffed on his first Emirates outing on Wednesday night as the Gunners were beaten 3-2 at home by Villarreal in their penultimate pre-season fixture. Gyokeres was subbed after an hour but Arteta has no doubts he'll be in a position to hit the ground running this season, starting at Old Trafford. ‌ Arteta said of his marquee £63.7million summer capture: "I think mentally and understanding what he needs to do, he will be 100 per cent or more because he's so willing. He's so confident as well that he can deliver for us straight away, I have no doubt he'll be in a really good place." ‌ Gyokeres has endured a gruelling, whirlwind summer, but Arteta is adamant he noticed immediate chemistry with his new Arsenal team-mates on the pitch. ‌ When asked how long it may take to click for the 27-year-old striker, the Spaniard added: "I hope just days, every day in training I think he's getting a really good feeling. "I think he's built connections as well outside of the pitch, which I think is really important with players that are going to help him to be in the position that he needs to get in. "He hasn't trained really with the team for two months, so he's done five or six sessions now before today. I think he will take another step in the right direction on Saturday and he will be in a better condition." Teenage sensation Max Dowman dazzled from the bench but Arteta revealed the 15-year-old starlet is now heading on holiday for a well-earned break. The Arsenal boss was unable to provide any assurances that Dowman will be making his top-flight debut imminently ahead of the new season. He said of the nimble attacker: "Let's see how it goes. Let's go into Saturday, into his break as well. He needs a little break because he hasn't had any holidays really. So, in the next few days, he's going to have a break, which I think he needs. Then the following week, he'll be ready again to go." ‌ Arsenal play Athletic Club on Saturday in their final pre-season fixture before they gear up for the trip to Manchester United. Arteta has no doubt his side are the finished article - they now just have to prove it after three second-place finishes. He continued: "We know we need to make the next step and we're going to be better. The same as any other team, when you look at the competition, the pieces on the puzzle that they're adding, some of the ones are big ones as well. So, we're all trying to be at our best and ready to compete to win the Premier League." Kai Havertz (muscle issue), Riccardo Calafiori and Leandro Trossard could return to face Athletic Club this weekend.

Alan Shearer gives brutally honest verdict on Man Utd's Benjamin Sesko transfer

Newcastle have been looking to land Benjamin Sesko from Leipzig but look to have lost out to Manchester United in what is their latest transfer blow this summer Alan Shearer concedes it is "disappointing again from Newcastle" if they do lose out on Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United - given the hugely superior season they had in comparison to their rivals. ‌ The Magpies enjoyed a historic year as Eddie Howe led them to their first trophy in more than half a century and also secured a return to the Champions League. Those in Manchester meanwhile endured their worst ever Premier League season, finishing 15th. ‌ Newcastle also enjoyed a dominant double over the Red Devils - securing an aggregate win of 6-1 across the two games - yet their most ambitious summer target looks to have expressed a preference to join United. ‌ Sesko has continued to blossom at RB Leipzig and is viewed among the best young strikers in Europe. Newcastle acted first in an effort to land the Slovenian, who they see as the ideal replacement for Alexander Isak, but the Manchester outfit have now swooped in and look to have won the race. Shearer is frustrated that another marquee target looks to have passed Newcastle by as they fail to build on one of the club's great seasons. He told Betfair: "It sounds as if Benjamin Sesko had two clubs to choose from in Newcastle and Man United. One that won a trophy last year and is now playing Champions League football this season - and one that didn't win anything, finished 15th and had a dreadful season. "I understand that Man United are a huge football club, not so much a huge football team at this moment in time. I get it. I understand it. It looks as if, by all accounts, he prefers a move to Man United. It's disappointing again from Newcastle, another target it looks like they're going to miss out on and I said it about a week ago, it looks as if it's been a disastrous window for Newcastle." Howe has continued to miss out on key targets which means Newcastle have struggled to strengthen their squad ahead of their second crack at the Champions League. Antony Elanga, signed from Nottingham Forest for £55million, is their only new recruit. They've seen the likes of Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo and James Trafford all head for other clubs despite Newcastle's interest being well documented. The biggest blow could yet come in the form of Isak's exit with the Swede informing the club he wants to leave as Liverpool circle. Benjamin Sesko boasts Cristiano Ronaldo-esque leap set to strike fear in Premier League defenders upon Man Utd move

BENJAMIN SESKO is finally making the leap into the Premier League. After choosing Manchester United ahead of Newcastle, the RB Leipzig striker will be delighted if he can make half the impact of another forward known for gravity-defying jumps at Old Trafford, namely Cristiano Ronaldo. 9 9 9 Eight years ago, when still in his native Slovenia, Sesko posted an incredible video of him flying so high he could kick out at a basketball hoop — the global standard height is TEN FEET or just over three metres. In slow motion, the footage shows him jumping towards the backboard and dislodging a ball from the rim with his foot. This video eventually came to the attention of the recruitment department at Red Bull Salzburg and they started tracking this freak of nature. Aged 16, Sesko would eventually head to Austria. He spent four years there then moved to Red Bull stablemates Leipzig to become one of the most feared strikers in Europe. Sesko now stands at 6ft 5in and can jump not far off a further four feet, which is extraordinary. He is literally head and shoulders above his peers. United boss Ruben Amorim will utilise Sesko's super-human strength this season to finally help the Red Devils restore their bite in front of goal. Sesko's aerial ability, speed and power make him a real threat. He will certainly give defences food for thought — fuelled by plenty of protein. His breakfast consists of FOUR fried eggs, yoghurt with berries, muesli and freshly-squeezed fruit juice. For lunch, Sesko has chicken, rice, carrots and broccoli, with two slices of bread, followed by a fruit salad featuring mango, watermelon and pineapple. Bruno Fernandes branded 'proper captain' for his miserable trophy 'celebration' after Man Utd win Prem Summer Series Dinner is salmon with potato and a tomato and cucumber salad, before finishing the day with yet more muesli, this time livened up with some Quark cheese, cashew nuts, kiwi fruit and blueberries. His approach is bearing fruit, and although Sesko's shot accuracy and conversion rate need to improve with experience, he could be a huge success for the Red Devils over the next few years. It is turning into a nightmare for Newcastle, especially with star striker Alexander Isak looking to leave with Liverpool heavily linked. Meanwhile, the Old Trafford side will get a player who at Salzburg was known as the 'new Erling Haaland', with Manchester City's Norwegian star having made his mark at the club before leaving for Borussia Dortmund. 9 9 9 9 Sesko's leap only became famous a few years ago and until he began to flourish in Salzburg, was largely unknown. Yet as he found his feet in Austria, he moved to Leipzig and then started to terrorise Bundesliga defences. Sesko has remained a shy person and rarely gives an insight into his private life on Instagram unlike other players. Right now, you could argue, Sesko's possible future brother-in-law is actually more famous across the UK than him. His girlfriend, Anita, is the sister of Boris who has recently starred on Love Island. Sesko will form part of a new, three-pronged attacking dream team with £62.5million Matheus Cunha and £65m Bryan Mbuemo. The three scored 48 league goals between them last season, which is more than the entire United team managed in the Prem (44). Amorim opting for this line-up would mean skipper Bruno Fernandes dropping back into a deeper midfield role instead of occupying a No 10 spot himself. 9 9 Since August 2023, striker Sesko has been the top-scoring player in Europe aged under 23. He has struck 39 times, one ahead of midfield pair Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid and five more than Liverpool new boy Florian Wirtz. After Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich (33) is Rasmus Hojlund with 26 goals. Yet United have been willing to listen to offers for Hojlund, and are ready to accept as little as £30m for the player they paid £64m for in 2023, although the Dane still wants to fight for his place in Manchester. Born just a few months before Sesko in 2003, Hojlund still has work to do but it might not be the worst thing for United — if they can afford to keep him — to allow him to grow alongside Sesko. You could see why joining Newcastle would have been a good option for Sesko. A side featuring in the Champions League this season and one where he could become a hero. Yet United are the biggest club in England and while they are not in European competition this term, their time will come again. With his three-pronged strikeforce and the genius of Fernandes pulling the strings behind them, Amorim's men could be a force in the Premier League this season.
