Egyptian & Turkish FMs Discuss Gaza and Regional Developments

H-Tayea
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatti received a phone call from Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Sunday, as part of ongoing diplomatic coordination and consultations on regional developments.
Both ministers praised the remarkable progress in Egyptian-Turkish relations, noting the recent surge in high-level visits and cooperation across multiple sectors. They emphasized the importance of building on this momentum, particularly as the two nations celebrate the centennial of diplomatic relations in 2025.
During the call, the ministers reiterated their shared commitment to boosting economic and trade relations, aiming to raise bilateral trade to 15 billion USD. They also welcomed increasing Turkish investments in Egypt, acknowledging the recent reforms Egypt has undertaken to improve the investment climate.
The discussion highlighted the outcomes of the first High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council held in September 2024, co-chaired by the Egyptian and Turkish presidents.
Regionally, the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza took center stage. Minister Abdelatti briefed his Turkish counterpart on Egypt's coordination with Qatar and the United States to resume a ceasefire and facilitate the delivery of critical humanitarian, medical, and shelter aid to the besieged population. He emphasized the need to increase the number of aid trucks, while both ministers condemned the deliberate starvation policy currently affecting Gaza.
The two sides agreed on the urgent need for joint action with international stakeholders to end the ongoing Israeli aggression, achieve a deal for the release of hostages, and push back against violations of international law and humanitarian norms. They underscored the importance of applying pressure on both parties involved in the conflict to reach an immediate ceasefire.
The call also addressed wider regional developments, including the latest situations in Syria and Libya, where both Egypt and Turkey remain actively engaged.

The momentum across our platform shows that our dual-use capabilities deliver both commercial success and strategic value. With Thuraya-4 entering commercial operation and our programmatic approach taking hold, combined with sustained optimization, we're positioned for growth aligned with market demand.' Space Services Gains Market Momentum Space Services achieved 2% year-on-year revenue growth in Q2 2025, reaching USD 100 million, driven by double-digit expansion in the Oil & Gas segment. The business performed strongly across secure communications and mobile satellite services domains, firmly benefiting from the drive for secure and sovereign communications capabilities in the UAE. The company anticipates this drive to continue in the medium to long term. Growth is set to accelerate in the second half of 2025 as the recently launched Thuraya-4 satellite starts commercial operations, offering several new mobile satellite services for defense and security as well as commercial applications. These capabilities are increasingly relevant in the context of recent regional events. Space Services also made significant progress in the direct-to-device future space system with key milestones to be announced in H2 2025. Smart Solutions Accelerates Manufacturing and Platform Capabilities Smart Solutions, whilst underperforming due to the timing of multi-year engagements it is firmly seeding, continued to build programmatic capabilities with new programs expected to come online in the second half of 2025. Its primary focus is to manufacture and deploy the Foresight system, comprising seven latest-generation Earth observation SAR-based satellites whilst continuing to advance the development of its GIQ geospatial analytics platform. This is now deployed on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace to address a global market of growing requirements for dual-use geospatial information and insights. BoE cuts rates to 4% but decision was less clear than expected - Middle East Business News and Information

By Daniela Sabin Hathorn, senior market analyst at The Bank of England BoE delivered its fifth rate cut in a year on Thursday, lowering the Bank Rate by 25 basis points to 4.00%. The decision reflects mounting concerns over the UK's weakening economic momentum, even as inflation remains stubbornly above target. The Monetary Policy Committee MPC vote revealed a rare and significant 5–4 split, with notable disagreement among members about the size and timing of the rate cut. One member reportedly advocated for a 50 basis point cut, prompting a second round of voting—an uncommon move that underscores the current uncertainty within the Committee. The vote split was expected to come in at 8-1. The fact that four MPC members voted to keep the rate unchanged was a lot less dovish than anticipated, prompting the pound to rise on the back of it. GBP/USD and GBP/JPY are both up 0.45% since the announcement, whilst EUR/GBP is down 0.5%. The decision to ease monetary policy further comes in response to a cooling UK economy. Recent data shows GDP has contracted over recent months, alongside rising unemployment, as labour market conditions soften. However, with inflation still above 3%, the risk of stagflation is becoming more apparent, with several policymakers showing this concern by opting to vote to keep rates unchanged. In its accompanying statement, the Bank reiterated its intention to proceed with 'a gradual and careful' easing path. Further cuts are expected to be modest, and only if economic data justifies continued loosening. Markets interpreted this as a dovish hold on future actions, with the Bank opting to retain flexibility amid competing risks. Updated Economic Projections: Growth Forecasts: GDP is now projected to expand 1.25% in 2025 and in 2026. Inflation Outlook: Price growth is not expected to return to the 2% target until early 2027, reflecting persistent structural inflationary pressures. Policy Path: the BoE's non-committal and data dependant approach has led markets to remove some of the further easing priced in for the end of 2025, with just 15bps of easing as of now.

Hamas accuses Israel PM of sacrificing captives for personal interest - War on Gaza

Hamas on Thursday accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose government was debating expanding military operations in Gaza, of sacrificing the Israeli captives held there. "Netanyahu's plans to escalate the aggression confirm beyond any doubt his desire to get rid of the captives and sacrifice them in pursuit of his personal interests and extremist ideological agenda," Hamas said in a statement. The statement was issued as Netanyahu was convening his security cabinet to vote on an expansion of the military campaign in Gaza. Israeli media said it could entail a full military occupation of the Palestinian territory. Earlier on Thursday, US network Fox News aired an interview with Netanyahu in which he said that Israel intends to take control of all of the Gaza Strip but not "keep it" or "govern it." "In response to the remarks made by war criminal... Benjamin Netanyahu, in his interview with Fox News... What he is planning is a continuation of a policy of genocide and forced displacement, through the perpetration of further crimes against our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip," Hamas said. The group accused Netanyahu of "backtracking on the negotiation track". Indirect talks with Hamas seeking a truce and captive release deal broke down in late July. During Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel, militants seized 251 captives. Forty-nine of them are still held in Gaza, including 27, the Israeli military says, who are dead.
