Labaron Philon is back: What are potential starting fives for Alabama basketball in 2025-26?

Yahoo06-06-2025
Labaron Philon's surprise return to Alabama basketball gives the Crimson Tide a full 12-man roster for the 2025–26 season — and a major boost in the backcourt.
Six of those Crimson Tide players are guards, unexpectedly including the Mobile native after the SEC All-Freshman selection pulled out of the 2025 NBA Draft, 28 minutes before the withdrawal deadline.

Fans knew going into Alabama's most recent Elite Eight run that they would lose All-American Mark Sears. The hope was Philon would run it back, but that dwindled as his star rose throughout his rookie year. Panic struck for some when Philon declared for the draft on Apr. 15, and it only grew as the days went by with an open spot on Alabama's roster, which needed a proven presence to run the point and find its lengthy shooters.

Alabama guards for the 2025-26 season will also include returners Aden Holloway, Latrell Wrightsell Jr. and Houston Mallette, who was officially approved for his medical redshirt earlier on Wednesday, as well as Miami transfer Jalil Bethea and incoming freshman Davion Hannah.

With Labaron Philon back, what are potential starting lineups for Alabama baseball?
Philon and Aden Holloway are locks to split the one spot for the Crimson Tide with Mallette and Bethea likely to share the work at the two.
"I think he's [Holloway] had a really good spring. I think he's going to have an even better year next year. He's one of the best shooters in the country," Oats said at the Regions Tradition a couple weeks ago.
Wrightsell is a lock for the three spot, but could potentially alternate with incoming freshmen London Jemison, who is billed at 6-foot-10, or Amari Allen. Oats noted Wrightsell should be ready to play in the fall, but it'll be his first season back since the ACL injury that put his career on pause in 2024, so preserving his health will almost certainly be a priority on the front-end of the non-conference schedule.

"The freshmen, we think, add positional size, length, shooting, athleticism. London Jemison had a really good year. He shot it really well," Oats said. "Amari Allen and Davion Hannah both I think are guys we're looking for. Guys that have been good in our system. 6-6, 6-7 guard wing that can create advantages."
Six-foot-ten Florida State forward transfer Taylor Bol Bowens is anticipated to start regularly at the four spot, where 6-8 Tarleton State former and WAC Freshman of the Year Keitenn Bristow will also be an option.
"He moves really well, though. He can play wing. You can go small and play him at the five if you choose to," Oats said of Bol Bowens.
At the five, Aiden Sherrell's late surgence as a three-point shooter, finishing 47% from deep in conference play, makes him a favorite to clinch the starting spot. It'll be a competition with Patriot League Player of the Year Noah Williamson from Bucknell, who stands at 7-feet alongside a growing Sherrell.

Williamson, a senior, can offer a veteran presence at center. However, Sherrell has survived the waters of the SEC and has a year of operating in Oats' fast-paced system already under his belt. Averaging 75.3 possessions per game, Alabama finished first in KenPom's tempo rankings. Meanwhile, Bucknell came in at No. 181 with 67.5 possessions per 40 minutes.
Nothing has been set in stone, but it seems like the most likely starting five for Alabama basketball down the stretch will be Philon, Mallette, Wrightsell, Bol Bowen and Sherrell. That's not to say Bethea couldn't make the jump to start between living up the upside he brings from a wanting freshman season at Miami, or how Mallette's knees hold up.
Oats thought that Alabama would "be fine" with the 11 it had before Philon's announcement. He didn't have to look far for the missing piece he was looking for to take the Crimson Tide on another deep run.

Former NBA player calls the OKC Thunder his favorite team he played for

Despite being a small market, you always hear nothing but positive reviews from NBA players who played for the Oklahoma City Thunder. The city's nightlife may not be as colorful as other larger markets, but it's the perfect place to go to if you're all about basketball. Add Anthony Morrow to the list of former Thunder players who can attest to that. He recently went on the "Stories Untold" podcast. The career journeyman spent almost three seasons in OKC from 2014-17. When asked his favorite NBA city to play for, he went with the Thunder. "Oklahoma City, man. Oklahoma City Thunder. I was so happy because at that time, I had settled down. Had kids, family, all of that," Morrow said. "Oklahoma City was the perfect place for me at the time." The Thunder signed Morrow as a bench outside shooter. He played alongside Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook as they were a title contender. He averaged 7.7 points and shot 39.4% from 3 on 3.6 attempts in his time in OKC. He complimented the high-end talent and fans for why he loved his time there. "To be able to play for the best-run organization in the NBA and maybe in sports. Great staff, great teammates, two Hall-of-Fame guys, great team camaraderie," Morrow said. "It's Oklahoma City. We are the only pro team there. They treat everybody like Michael Jackson in the community. Eat for free, family eat for free, show love. It's right what I needed to stay focused on the court and off the court." The Thunder seldom pick up outside free agents. But when they do, they usually nail the additions. Morrow was a solid outside shooter in his time in OKC. Considering he played for seven NBA franchises, it's notable to see him pick the Thunder for the best franchise he's played for.

The popular video game, NBA2K26, will be released very soon as everybody prepares for the 2025-26 NBA season. The game promises to add new features and continue to upgrade graphics and things of the like as the game's production team looks for improvements. A big topic everybody looks for is ratings. The masses want to know what their favorite player's 2K rating is in the game and the official Twitter account released the top 100 rated players in the game. The Philadelphia 76ers have an early entry on the list in the form of Paul George. George, a 9-time All-Star who had an injury-riddled first season with the Sixers, has a 2K rating of 81 as he looks ahead to the new season. Other notable players with an 81 rating are Washington Wizards big man Alex Sarr, Portland Trail Blazers high flyer Shaedon Sharpe, and New York Knicks swingman Josh Hart. George was limited to 41 games with the Sixers and saw his numbers decrease across the board from his previous season with the Los Angeles Clippers. Recovering from an offseason left knee surgery, the Sixers hope George can return and give Philadelphia the dominant scoring it expects from him.

Mo Bamba Got Waived By Jazz, Friend Clowned Him With Savage Unemployment Joke

Mo Bamba Got Waived By Jazz, Friend Clowned Him With Savage Unemployment Joke originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Mo Bamba's NBA career has taken him through plenty of ups and downs, but nothing prepared him for the roast he got from one of his closest friends. The 7-footer shared on a Twitch stream that after being waived by the Utah Jazz earlier this year, his buddy Sean decided to clown him in the most brutal way possible, by sending him an unemployment link. "I'm waived from Utah. And this is when I was probably just going to go to another, I was going to go right to another team. Feel me? It's whatever. But like, it was like a week span of where we was trying to figure out which other team I was going to go to." "This nigga Sean is an asshole. This nigga going to send me, this nigga going to send me an unemployment link, bro." The moment instantly blew up online, with fans laughing at the savage timing of the joke. For Bamba, the timing of the waiver was tough, he'd just been dealt from the Los Angeles Clippers to Utah at the deadline, only for the Jazz to cut him the next day. After a month, he landed a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, suiting up for four games before heading back into free agency. It's not the first time Bamba has gone viral for something off the court. In the past, he's cracked jokes of his own, famously taking a jab at Joel Embiid over sitting out back-to-back games by saying, 'I'm not Joel.' Between his internet moments and his unique personality, Bamba has kept himself in the conversation even when minutes have been hard to come by. On paper, Bamba has the tools to stick in the NBA. Standing at 7-feet tall with a massive wingspan, he came into the league with the reputation of a rim protector and floor spacer. He was seen as a franchise cornerstone at the time. But inconsistency and injuries slowed his development. In five seasons with Orlando, he averaged 7.7 points and 5.8 rebounds, while flashing moments of brilliance that never quite turned into sustained production. Since then, he has bounced between teams, including short stints with the Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Clippers. Across 2024-25, he played 28 games for the Clippers, averaging 4.6 points and 4.3 rebounds, before his brief Pelicans stint. Overall, his career numbers sit at 6.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 47.7 percent shooting from the field. For now, though, the story isn't about his numbers, it's about his friend Sean, who might have earned 'roast of the year' honors with one link. Getting waived stings, but having your buddy hit you with unemployment paperwork might sting even more. Luckily, Bamba seems to be taking it all in stride, laughing through the situation and sharing it with fans. If nothing else, the viral moment proves one thing: Mo Bamba might not be sure where he'll play next, but he'll always have friends making sure he doesn't take himself too seriously. And honestly, in a league where drama often turns ugly, sometimes the best stories are just about a friend being a little too quick with the story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Aug 17, 2025, where it first appeared.
