50 terrorists killed in 4-day security operation in southwest Pakistan

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Islamabad, Aug 13 (PTI) Pakistani security forces killed 50 terrorists in a four-day operation in the border region of the troubled Balochistan province. The army said in an overnight statement that the terrorists were targeted on different occasions from August 7 to 11 in the Sambaza area of Zhob district along the border with Afghanistan. Using the term for the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, it said that '47 khwarij were sent to hell," following successful engagements by the security forces from August 7-9. Following this, a sanitisation operation was conducted in the surrounding areas of Sambaza along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on the intervening night of August 10-11. During the operation, three more terrorists were 'successfully neutralised", it said, adding that weapons, ammunition and explosives were recovered from those killed. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday commended the security forces for carrying out the successful operation, state-run Associated Press of Pakistan reported. Separately, nine security personnel including an officer were killed and six others injured on Monday night when their convoy was ambushed in Balochistan's southern Washuk district bordering Iran, the Dawn newspaper reported, quoting officials. There has been no official statement by the army on the incident so far. In Washuk, militants also attempted to attack a police station which was recently handed over to the police, the report said, adding that three policemen were injured in the incident, but security personnel managed to thwart the attack. Divya Seth On SC's Stray Dogs Directive: ‘There Was Supposed To Be Mass Sterilisation'

Last Updated: Divya Seth criticised this decision and highlighted the government's failure to implement a mass sterilisation plan. The Supreme Court's order to relocate stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelters within eight weeks has been criticised heavily by public figures, activists and commoners. Bollywood celebrities also jumped in to protest, urging the Supreme Court to be more empathetic towards these dogs. Among the celebrities, Jab We Met actress Divya Seth criticised this decision and highlighted the government's failure to implement a mass sterilisation plan, emphasising its role in the growing stray dog population. Divya Seth's Response to Supreme Court's Order During a debate with Times Now, Divya Seth was seen heavily criticising the Supreme Court's order. 'There was an original option, which is that every municipality in our country was given enough funding to neuter these dogs. There was supposed to be mass sterilisation, but it didn't happen; it didn't happen," the actress highlighted the government's failure to implement the right plan. 'I have rescued two dogs whose ears were clipped, but they were pregnant. So the problem began over there—that's why there is this immense population of dogs, because they were not neutered responsibly. They have to be neutered, and they have to be sterilised," she added. Known for her love for dogs Divya revealed she has five stray dogs outside her house and five in the house. 'Do you know what a superpower street dogs have? I have been rescuing them since I was a child. I have five outside and five in my house. They think your home is theirs to protect. They think your children are theirs to guard. All they ask for in return is a little bit of kindness and just a little bit of food. I understand this, with all due respect to all the people who are scared," she said. Bollywood Celebrities Express Concerns Over Supreme Court's Ruling Various Bollywood celebrities like Janhvi Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Ravina Tandon and Zeenat Aman, among others, took to social media to stand against the ruling. ED raids Karnataka Cong MLA, others in illegal iron ore export case

Last Updated: Bengaluru, Aug 13 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday raided premises linked to Karnataka Congress MLA Satish Krishna Sail and some others as part of a money laundering investigation against the legislator in a case related to alleged illegal export of iron ore, official sources said. At least 15 premises in Karnataka, Goa and Mumbai are being searched under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the sources said. Sail is a Congress MLA representing the Karwar assembly constituency in Uttara Kannada district. Sail, according to the sources, has been accused of exporting illegally mined iron ore which was seized by forest officials at Belekeri port in Karwar, Karnataka. This caused 'loss" to government exchequer for an amount of about Rs 38 crore but the actual value of illegally exported ore is worth hundreds of crores of rupees, the sources said. The case originated from a 2010 probe by the Karnataka Lokayukta, which discovered about eight lakh tons of illegally transported iron ore from Bellary to Belekeri port. The Karnataka High Court last year had ordered the suspension of the seven-year prison sentence of the MLA in this case. A special court had previously found Sail and others guilty in multiple cases related to the illegal export of iron ore from the Belekeri port.
