North Texas student on life support after fall during ‘Senior Assassin' game
In the game that's popular among graduating high school students, players armed with water guns have a list of classmates they have to track down and 'assassinate.'
On April 20, Isaac Leal, a baseball player at South Grand Prairie High School, was chasing other students with his water gun through an Arlington neighborhood. While playing the game, Leal jumped onto the back of a parked Jeep, which then drove away, his family told KTVT-TV.
Leal was standing on the back bumper of the Jeep as it made several turns before it hit a dip in the road and threw him onto the pavement, where he hit his head, his family told the CBS news station.
'They were playing Senior Assassin. He jumped on a young girl's Jeep as it was parked. The girl reversed and took off and drove for five minutes at a high speed to where he could not jump off,' Leal's mother, Raquel Vazquez, told KXAS-TV.
Surveillance videos from neighbors' security cameras showed Leal riding on the back of the Jeep and then an ambulance responding after he fell, the NBC station reported.

Leal has been on life support at Medical City Arlington since the accident, his family said.
Only EMS responded to the scene, and the family told KTVT that they want a criminal investigation.
Arlington police are in contact with Leal's family and are investigating the incident to determine whether a criminal offense occurred, police told the Star-Telegram.
Police said they were made aware of the accident on Saturday, May 3, when Leal's family contacted them. Officers responded to the hospital to speak with the family and a police report was taken.
'In reviewing calls for service from the date the incident occurred, April 20, we learned that EMS responded to the accident site for what was described as an unconscious person,' police said.
Officers were never dispatched and 'we were not notified that Mr. Leal's injuries stemmed from a traffic incident until we spoke with his family this past weekend,' police said.
Police said based on evidence detectives reviewed, it appears Leal was hanging onto the back of the vehicle when the accident occurred.
The traffic division is leading the ongoing investigation, police said.
Vazquez, who wants Leal to be moved to a different hospital, told KXAS her son was too unstable to be transferred. 'We can't even roll him in the bed without his vitals reacting,' she said.

Beloved Florida Keys fishing captain killed after road rage dispute near Orlando
A well-known Florida Keys charter fishing captain was fatally shot near Orlando late last week following what police say appears to be an argument with another man over traffic. Joseph Hall, Jr., 43, was pronounced dead at HCA Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford around 5:45 p.m. Thursday night. Just minutes earlier, witnesses told police they saw another man, 24-year-old Jaden Harris, running after Hall at an apartment building parking lot with a handgun and shooting at him several times. Harris, who stayed at the scene, told Sanford police officers that he was driving his white BMW sedan behind Hall's Jeep Gladiator on South Mangoustine Avenue, and that Hall was driving very slowly. Harris told cops he passed Hall, who reacted by acting like he was going to use his Jeep to hit the BMW, according to his arrest report. Harris told police he followed Hall to try taking a picture of his license plate. When they arrived at a Stop sign at West Seminole Boulevard and Mangoustine Avenue, Hall rolled his window down and called him an expletive for a female body part. Harris followed Hall as he made a left turn onto West Seminole Boulevard. Hall pulled into the apartment complex on Marbella Lane, Harris told police. There, Harris told police Hall blocked the parking lot exit with his Jeep and got out of the vehicle, approaching the BMW, according to the report. As Hall got closer to the BMW, Harris let him know that 'had it on him,' meaning his gun, according to the report. He said Hall 'lunged' toward the car, and that's when he fired his first shot, the report states. Per the arrest report, when the first officer arrived and found Harris standing by his car, the cop asked him if he was the one who shot Hall. He responded, 'I had to because he was blocking me in,' the report states. After detectives asked Harris to tell them more about what was said before he opened fire, he told them he wanted an attorney, so they stopped questioning him, according to the report. Based on what witnesses told police, what Harris told them, and after viewing security camera footage from the apartment building, officers arrested him on a charge of second-degree murder. The footage did not capture the shooting, but shows Harris' BMW rolling backwards before he catches up to it and puts the car in park. This corroborates what witnesses say, that he got out of the car and kept firing, according to the report. Detectives said Harris 'had several opportunities to disengage from pursuing Joseph but maliciously continued instead. Based on Jaden's post Miranda interview, he never stated that at the time of the incident he was ever in fear for his life.' Detectives also note in the report that neither Harris nor the witnesses ever said Hall was armed. 'Joseph did not cause Jaden any injury or harm to him that would justify the use of deadly force,' the report states. A judge ordered Harris held without bond until his scheduled Oct. 7 arraignment, according to Seminole County court records. News of Hall's death hit the Upper Keys community hard after his wife, Devi, with whom he shares two children, posted about it via Facebook on Saturday. 'He was full of life, laughter, and love, and I am so grateful for every moment we had together,' she wrote. Hall owned and captained the 65-foot Sailors Choice Party Fishing Boat as well as the Anglers Choice sportfishing charter boat, both based out of the mile marker 99.7 oceanside marina in Key Largo. Tributes from loyal customers, crew and colleagues have continued to pour in to the Sailors Choice Facebook page since Hall's death. 'We are so deeply sorry for your loss. Captain Joe touched the lives of many with his kindness, passion, and love for the water. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and for creating memories that families will cherish forever. Watch: Bear breaks into California home, eats dog food, cookies and chips
Aug. 18 (UPI) -- A bear broke into a California home to feast on snacks including dog food, cookies, a bag of chips and a container of sugar. Bridget Conley said she started getting alerts from the security cameras at her Pine Mountain Club home, located in the Los Padres National Forest in Kern County, about 6:15 a.m. Friday, when no one was home. "He was huge," Conley told KABC-TV. "This bear was the biggest bear that we have seen." Conley said the bear kicked open the door and spent about an hour going in and out of the house. "There were multiple snacks, because once he broke in, he would go in, ransack and pick something that he wanted to eat, come back outside to eat it and then go back," Conley said. The bear feasted on treats including dog food, cookies, a container of turbinado sugar and a bag of chips. "He went for the turbinado sugar, the dog food, and we think he took a bottle of Worcestershire sauce, and I think that maybe he thought it was syrup, and he threw that down. He did not like that," she said. She said not everything in the kitchen was ransacked. "He left the vodka," she said.

Four shot in Dorchester overnight in what police say may have been connected shootings
Boston EMS crews were treating the wounded man when officers from District B-3 arrived. According to EMS transmissions on Broadcastify, the man was shot in both legs. Police said the wounds were not considered life-threatening. About 25 minutes after the Ellington Street shooting, police from District C-11 responded to the intersection of Dorchester and Talbot avenues to investigate a single vehicle crash, police said. On-scene officers allegedly discovered a loaded firearm stashed in the 'rear passenger seat pouch,' police wrote in a statement. One person in the vehicle at the time of the crash was charged with firearm-related offenses, police said. More information on the incident is expected to be released later Monday, police said. Around 2:50 a.m., District B-3 officers rushed to 55 Kingsdale St. in Dorchester where they found another man suffering from gunshot wounds that were not considered life-threatening, police said. Advertisement 'A preliminary investigation determined the incident occurred inside the nearby baseball field located [near 116] Talbot Avenue,' police wrote. Two minutes later, officers from District C-11 were patrolling near Dorchester and Melville avenues when they tried to stop multiple people on a dirt bike who were suspected of being involved in the Talbot Street baseball field shooting, officials said. 'The suspects, operating a dirt bike, failed to stop, causing a crash that led to a foot chase. During the pursuit, officers located the adult male passenger of the dirt bike hiding under a vehicle at 2 Barry Park,' police wrote. 'The individual was found to be suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital.' Advertisement Police said they recovered a firearm and ammunition. A fourth shooting took place near 98 Talbot Ave. around 2:53 a.m. after ShotSpotter reported multiple gunshots fired, police said. Arriving B-3 officers found a man with gunshot wounds also not believed to be life-threatening, police said. All four shootings are under investigation as separate crimes, but police are also examining whether there are connections between one or more of the incidents, police said. In an unrelated incident late Sunday night, police from District C-6 responded to the Home Run Cafe at 1269 Massachusetts Ave. in Dorchester where they found a man with multiple stab wounds. 'Preliminary investigation indicates the incident stemmed from a verbal altercation outside the establishment,' police wrote, noting they arrived at the bar at 11:56 p.m. The victim's medical status was not immediately available Monday, police said. Also just before midnight, officers from District A-1 were called to 41 New Chardon St. where a man operating a motor scooter had been hit by a vehicle. The man was treated by Boston firefighters for his injuries, police said. The driver of the car remained on the scene. All of the incidents remain under investigation, police said. John R.
