Angels, Rangers meet again, eye wild-card position
But after splitting four games with the Seattle Mariners and taking the first two of three against the Texas Rangers, those plans appear to be on hold, and Jansen is a major reason why.
The Angels and Rangers will meet again Wednesday night in Anaheim, Calif.
On Tuesday, Jansen became the first Angels closer since Huston Street in 2016 to record a save in three consecutive games, after he pitched a scoreless ninth in an 8-5 win.
It was the 20th save of the season for Jansen and the 467th of his career. The Angels moved within four games of the Mariners for the final wild-card spot in the American League, thanks to their first three-game winning streak since June 23-25.
"This is huge. We need this," Jansen said after Tuesday's game. "I know we're fighting for a wild-card spot. We need to come back and keep playing like this. There's plenty of games left, and I believe in this team, and I think we can make it."
The Angels will send out Jose Soriano (7-7, 3.79 ERA) to try to complete the series sweep on Wednesday. Texas will counter with fellow right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (8-3, 1.50), who is seeking his 100th career victory.
Eovaldi is 6-3 with a 3.20 ERA in 15 career appearances (13 starts) against Los Angeles, including a 13-1 win on July 8 in Anaheim that saw him allow one unearned run on five hits over six innings while striking out six.
Eovaldi is 4-0 with an 0.38 ERA in four starts in July. He has allowed just one earned run and 15 hits over 23 2/3 innings while striking out 26.
Soriano is 1-2 with a 4.19 ERA in five career appearances (three starts) against Texas. He is 0-2 with a 7.45 ERA in two starts this season against the Rangers, giving up eight runs on 13 hits and seven walks in 9 2/3 innings.
Yoan Moncada hit a two-run, pinch-hit single to highlight a four-run sixth inning Tuesday to fuel the 30th comeback win of the season for Los Angeles. Jo Adell went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI. Zach Neto doubled, was hit by a pitch twice, stole two bases, scored a run and also had an RBI for the Angels.
Texas pitchers walked seven batters and also hit four. Neto and Mike Trout were hit on back-to-back at-bats by reliever Shawn Armstrong in the eighth. That resulted in Angels interim manager Ray Montgomery gesturing and yelling at the Rangers' dugout as he walked along the first base line while checking on Trout's left hand. Both benches then emptied but were quickly separated.
"The only thing I said was, 'How many times are you going to hit a guy?'" Montgomery said. "I wasn't insinuating that they were doing it intentionally by any means."
Catcher Kyle Higashioka, playing his first game in a week due to a hamstring strain, went 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and two RBIs to lead the Rangers, who stand one game behind the Mariners in the race for the AL's final wild-card spot.
"Terrific game by him," Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said. "We did do some good things offensively. (But) pitching, hitting batters and walks just caught up with us."
Texas fell to 22-32 on the road, the worst road mark in the American League West.

And ahead of the potential showdown, the Ibrox club have taken advantage of the SPFL's new scheme to help Premiership clubs trying to get into Europe. Martin's side are due to face St Mirren in Paisley on August 24 but should they get past Plzen will then have that game postponed to a later date to boost their chances of qualifying for the Champions League. The same goes for Hibs who, if they can make it past Partizan Belgrade in the Conference League, will face Legia Warsaw or AEK Larnaca on August 21 and August 28. Scottie Scheffler 'rested, ready' to begin playoff grind
August 6 - Scottie Scheffler is ready to put his victory at the Open Championship in the rearview mirror when he tees off on Thursday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis. Scheffler, the World's No. 1 golfer, captured his fourth major with a four-stroke victory on July 20 at Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland. The best golfer in the world since 2022, Scheffler notched his 17th career PGA Tour victory and his fourth since May, a run that included the PGA Championship. So, what's Scheffler been doing in the meantime? "Went home not shortly after, and then got some rest," Scheffler said. "I took a little bit of extra time resting. I think just because playing major championships takes a lot out of you, so it was nice to get home and get a little bit of extra rest." Hopefully for Scheffler's sake, the break in his schedule doesn't create an issue with his results. He has recorded 11 consecutive top-10 finishes heading into the playoff opener in Memphis. "Well, I think it all comes down to the preparation and showing up ready to play," he said. "Like I said, at this point in the year, that extra practice is maybe only going to be draining for me a little bit, and that's something that I've learned to manage as my career has gone on. Gavin Williams nearly records no-hitter as Guardians put away Mets
August 6 - Gavin Williams was two outs away from the Cleveland Guardians' first no-hitter in 44 years as the visitors took down the New York Mets 4-1 to complete the sweep on Wednesday afternoon. After striking out Francisco Lindor to open the bottom of the ninth inning, Williams' no-hit bid was spoiled when Juan Soto belted a solo home run to dead center. Williams (7-4) struck out six and walked four before he was removed after throwing 126 pitches over 8 2/3 innings. Hunter Gaddis recorded the final out for his second save of the season. Williams was attempting to become the first Cleveland player to throw a no-hitter since Len Barker tossed a perfect game against the Toronto Blue Jays on May 15, 1981, a span of 6,987 games. Williams was at 75 pitches through five innings, 89 through six, 97 through seven and 111 through eight. His season high was 109 pitches on May 26 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. David Fry and Angel Martinez each homered for the Guardians, who have won seven of eight. New York left-hander David Peterson (7-5) allowed four runs and five hits in six innings. He struck out seven and walked two in his first loss since June 27. The Mets have lost four in a row and eight of nine to fall out of first place in the National League East. Peterson sped through an eight-pitch first inning, but Fry jumped on a 1-2 fastball to lead off the second and homered deep over the fence in left-center field for a 1-0 lead. Steven Kwan singled up the middle on an 0-2 pitch to start the third for the Guardians. Williams walked Brandon Nimmo on seven pitches to lead off the second. While a wild pitch over the head of Mark Vientos moved Nimmo to second, the Mets stranded runners on the corners.
