Kate Middleton pays tribute to late teen with cancer after fulfilling her ‘bucket list' dream

Yahoo10-03-2025

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is celebrating the life of British teen Liz Hatton, who recently died after being diagnosed with a fast-progressing and rare form of cancer.
Hatton was diagnosed with desmoplastic small round cell tumors in January 2024 when she was 16, British outlet Sky News reported. Hatton's mother, Vicky Roboyna, told the outlet that doctors informed her daughter at the time that she only had about six months to three years to live.
Hatton, a young photographer, decided to create a 'bucket list' of events and images she wanted to snap before her death. The teen told BBC Radio 4 that one of the items on her list was 'photographing a royal.'
In October 2024, she checked off that goal. The official X account for the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a photo of Hatton hugging the former Kate Middleton. The account included another snap of Hatton posing with her family beside Prince William and his wife at Windsor Castle.
'A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today,' the Prince and Princess of Wales tweeted. 'A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us.'
Hatton also uploaded pictures she took from the special day on Instagram. 'I was absolutely honoured to be invited to Windsor Castle the other day, where I had the pleasure of not only photographing the events but also meeting the Prince and Princess with my family alongside me. I could not be more thankful to everyone involved, as you were all so kind, welcoming and supportive,' she captioned a series of snaps.
'Thank you all, and I can only hope that my photos do the day as much justice as possible,' she continued, sharing a second set of photos, as well.
About a month later, Hatton's family announced on Instagram that she had died at the age of 17.
'Our incredible daughter Liz died in the early hours of yesterday morning,' her family shared in a Nov. 28, 2024 statement, in part. 'She remained determined to the last. Even the day before she was still making plans. We are so very proud of the kindness, empathy and courage she has shown in the last year. She was not only a phenomenal photographer, she was the best human, and the most wonderful daughter and big sister we could ever have asked for.'
Desmoplastic small round cell tumors, or DSRCT, refers to tumors that usually grow in the abdomen or pelvic area, according to the National Cancer Institute. The tumors develop in the connective tissue of the body, like fat, muscles, tendons, lymph and blood vessels and nerves.
The National Cancer Institute describes DSRCT as 'very rare' and reports that just 200 cases of the cancer have been recorded since 1989.
In honor of International Women's Day on March 8, the Princess of Wales, who was diagnosed with cancer in March 2024, paid tribute to Hatton's legacy on X by including her among 'the brilliant women who have inspired us over the last 12 (months).'
She retweeted the post with Hatton from October and said, 'Celebrating the strength and creativity of Liz and Vicky Hatton. It was an honour meeting them both in Windsor in October.'
Kate added, 'Liz's memory (lives) on in Vicky's unwavering resilience. Thank you for such a moving moment.'
The Princess of Wales announced in January that her cancer is in remission. She shared the news in a statement on Instagram beside a photo of her visiting a cancer patient at the Royal Marsden Hospital, where the royal was also treated and now holds the title of joint patron.
'It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal,' Kate said at the time. 'I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.'

TikTok star Khaby Lame plays soccer in Brazil after US detention

SAO PAULO (AP) — Khaby Lame, the world's most-followed TikTok personality who left the U.S. after being detained by immigration agents, went to Brazil where he's been spending some time with friends, local authorities said Thursday. Lame is staying with AC Milan player Emerson Royal, and has been enjoying time with local fans, Paulo Eduardo Dias Junior, a city councilman from Americana, about 78 miles (125 kilometers) northwest of Sao Paulo, told The Associated Press. On Wednesday night, they played a friendly soccer match with locals. Lame left the United States after being detained on June 6 by immigration agents at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas for allegedly overstaying his visa. The Senegalese-Italian influencer, whose legal name is Seringe Khabane Lame, was allowed to leave the country without a deportation order, according to a statement from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Junior organized Wednesday's match on behalf of the nonprofit he leads, Instituto Jr Dias. He said that Lame and Royal's participation helped collect 150 food baskets for vulnerable families. 'Emerson Royal is a role model for the children in our community, and so is Khaby, who is globally known through social media. He's a sensation among kids today,' Junior said. 'He had a lot of fun with the kids and played a lot.' The councilman said that the team that Lame and Royal were on won 3-1. Everything went smoothly, he added, except for the post-match celebration. As is tradition in Brazil, players gathered for a barbecue. But Lame preferred a parmegiana, so they took him to a local restaurant, Junior said. This is not Lame's first time in Brazil. Last year, he traveled to the country to attend Royal's wedding. Met Gala and then detention Lame arrived in the U.S. on April 30 and 'overstayed the terms of his visa,' an ICE spokesperson told the AP, which sent a message seeking comment Tuesday to the email address listed on Lame's Instagram account. He hasn't publicly commented on his detention. His detention and voluntary departure from the United States comes amid U.S. President Donald Trump's escalating crackdown on immigration, including raids in Los Angeles that sparked days of protests against ICE, as the president tests the bounds of his executive authority. A voluntary departure — which was granted to Lame — allows those facing removal from the U.S. to avoid a deportation order on their immigration record, which could prevent them from being allowed back into the U.S. for up to a decade. The 25-year-old Lame rose to international fame during the pandemic without ever saying a word in his videos, which would show him reacting to absurdly complicated 'life hacks.' He has more than 162 million followers on TikTok alone. The Senegal-born influencer moved to Italy when he was an infant with his working class parents and also has Italian citizenship. His internet fame quickly evolved. He signed a multiyear partnership with designer brand Hugo Boss in 2022. In January, he was appointed as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. Last month, he attended the Met Gala in New York City, days after arriving in the U.S. ___ Follow AP's coverage of Latin America and the Caribbean at

Netflix just dropped 'The Diplomat' season 3 teaser trailer — and it feels like a 'West Wing' reunion

Netflix has just treated us to a fresh look at "The Diplomat" season 3, and we've now got a rough idea of when we can expect the show to air. The minute-long teaser primarily hinges on unveiling one thing about the show. Or, rather, one person: Bradley Whitford (another "The West Wing" alumnus), who has joined "The Diplomat" cast as Grace Penn's (fellow "West Wing" star, Allison Janney) husband, Todd Penn. Other than showing Todd's part of the proceedings, it's light on details. This new teaser is otherwise a combination of a tense score, scenes of police escorts, fancy attire and then a quick montage from the forthcoming season (running, a swimming pool chat, and lots of looks into the distance, apparently). Then, it wraps up with a glimpse at a pow-wow between the Wylers and the Penns. And, judging by the glance that Kate flashes in response to Todd's "How was everyone's day at the office?", it's going to be an awkward and/or dramatic conversation. Excited? Well, "The Diplomat" season 3 already has a release window, and it's not a million years away. You can look forward to a reunion with Kate this fall, and we'll be keeping an eye out for a precise release date. This part of the article contains light spoilers for "The Diplomat" season 3. "The Diplomat" season 3 teaser trailer might not give much away, but Netflix has shared some story details for the forthcoming season over on Tudum. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. "When we pick up for Season 3 of "The Diplomat," the synopsis reads, "Kate has just accused Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) of hatching a terrorist plot and admitted she's after the VP's job. But now the president is dead, Kate's husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) may have inadvertently killed him, and Grace Penn is the leader of the free world. "None of this slows Hal's campaign to land Kate the vice presidency. Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn (Whitford)." In addition to the above names, "The Diplomat" season 3 cast list also includes Ali Ahn as CIA Station Chief Eidra Park, Ato Essandoh as Deputy Chief of Mission, Stuart Hayford, and Rory Kinnear as British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge. Love Is Blind's Lydia Gonzalez announces divorce from husband Milton Johnson: ‘I felt betrayed'

Love is Blind's Lydia Velez Gonzalez has filed for divorce from her husband, Milton Johnso,n after nearly three years of marriage. Gonzalez, 34, and Johnson, 27, met in 2022 on season five of the popular Netflix reality show, which puts men and women in dating 'pods' where they can speak to each other, but not see each other. In a podcast appearance, Gonzalez shared that there was a 'layer of situations and things that just kept piling it up' that led to her decision to file for divorce. 'I needed to share my thoughts and my experience because what I've been suffering in silence has been too much for me to be quiet and keep quiet,' she told fellow Love Is Blind alum Amber Desiree 'AD' Smith on her podcast What's the Reality? In 2022, the couple revealed that Gonzalez was living in Houston while Johnson had to move to Long Beach, California, for their respective jobs. However, Gonzalez made it clear that the long distance and their age gap weren't to blame for the breakdown. 'Maybe the internet was right, that he wasn't ready for marriage. I don't think he was ready to be a husband,' she said. Gonzalez said problems began in October 2022, six months into their marriage, when Johnson refused to cut off a woman he had dated in the past. She explained that during their marriage, multiple women accused Johnson of 'heavily flirting' with them. 'My heart went to the floor. I felt betrayed and disrespected.' Gonzalez said she asked Johnson for a divorce in March, but he allegedly called her 'too f***ing stupid' and 'an untrustworthy person'. 'I don't believe he loves me. I still love him, unfortunately... I cannot keep being in a place where I'm not wanted. I'm trying to put back the pieces that he broke.' The Independent has reached out to Johnson for a comment. Gonzalez also said she had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia in September, but Johnson did not support her while she struggled with the chronic condition. 'Instead of him being my support, he told me, 'You're not dying, you just have to eat healthy and work out,'' she said. In an Instagram post shared on Wednesday, Gonzalez addressed the split, writing: 'I never ever wished this ending; or any ending to be honest. I wish I knew the answer to what happened? What made you change? Truly so I could go back and fix it. When you read these words you are probably going to be angry at me. You always were when I 'overshared' but this is part of my healing, and gathering back the pieces you broke.' Gonzalez and Johnson were the only couple in their season to get married. The two were caught up in a first for the reality series, where Gonzalez and another participant, Uche Okorhoa, realised they had dated each other in the real world. Later, Okorhoa accused Gonzalez of stalking him after they broke up and that she followed him onto the show.
