This past season was a homecoming for Dempsey, who grew up in Winthrop and played at the Rivers School and Harvard.
She began her professional career with the now-defunct CWHL's Boston Blades and was named Rookie of the Year in 2014, after leading all American-born players in scoring.
She later joined and was named captain of the NWHL/PHF's Boston Pride, setting league records for games, goals, assists, and points, and became one of only two players to have won the Isobel Cup three times.
While at Rivers, Dempsey was named a 2009 Globe All-Scholastic, and the Globe recently named her to the
Throughout her professional career, Dempsey juggled practices and games with her other passion: teaching elementary school in her hometown. She took a leave of absence from teaching in 2024, to devote her time to the PWHL.

Grace Elliott Could Be U Sports First Direct-To-The-PWHL Star

Grace Elliott is one of women's hockey's truly unique prospects. When she wraps up her U Sports women's hockey career at the University of British Columbia, she could be U Sports' first direct-to-the-PWHL star. Yes, there were multiple U Sports players who made the jump last year. Emmy Fecteau was a selection of the New York Sirens and signed a three-year-deal to stay with the team. The Concordia alumni had only one goal, her lone point in 30 games. Rylind MacKinnon, another University of British Columbia alum earned a spot on the Toronto Sceptres out of training camp and this offseason signed as a free agent with the Boston Fleet. Kelly Ann Nadeau also got a cup of tea with the Montreal Victoire after a long career with the University of Montreal. None however, are players with star potential for the league, although they can all put in long and productive PWHL careers as solid contributors. Another UBC product, Chanreet Bassi will look to put a dent in this trend this season with PWHL Vancouver, and she could be a surprise for many in the league. Still, it's unlikely she makes a sizeable impact immediately. The first direct-to-PWHL star could be UBC's Grace Elliott, a towering forward who was the best player in Canadian university women's hockey this year, being named the U Sports Player of the Year. Elliott is a unique prospect for the 2026 PWHL Draft, and could become the highest U Sports selection ever. What sets Grace Elliott apart? Grace Elliott led U Sports women's hockey in goals and points this season scoring 22 goals and 42 points in 28 games. Both were new British Columbia program records. For her efforts, Elliott was the U Sports Player of the Year and a First Team All-Canadian. While that's amazing, it's Elliott's physical attributes that truly set her apart as a prospect. Elliott stands 6-foot-2, and uses every inch of her reach and every ounce of her power to make an impact on the ice. 'The work Grace has put in and how she competes, every shift she wants to score and she wants to be the best every time she touches the ice and that's special,' said UBC head coach Graham Thomas. Multiple PWHL teams including PWHL Seattle and the Toronto Sceptres brought in a number of bigger players this year. It's a trend that's going to continue in the physical PWHL. Where smaller, lighter players could once thrive in elite women's hockey, the element of size in the PWHL's style of play is important. The White Rock, British Columbia product led Canada West with a +28 rating and 15 power play points. She also tied for the conference lead with seven power play goals and six game winning goals. As a net front presence, it's obvious why Elliott has thrived with the player advantage. But she's more than just a big player. Elliott is an offensive talent. The power forward has done it through a combination of skill and on ice awareness, multiplied by her unique size. It any player is going to step directly from U Sports to the PWHL and turn heads with her on ice performance, the University of British Columbia's sizeable talent, Grace Elliott, is the player who can do it.

Sean Payton can't hold back Bo Nix excitement in 4-word voicemail

The post Sean Payton can't hold back Bo Nix excitement in 4-word voicemail appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Denver Broncos are ready to take a big leap forward during the 2025 NFL season. Denver made the playoffs during Bo Nix's rookie season, but they got trashed by the Bills. Now they are hoping to build off a strong offseason and have another successful season in 2025. NFL insider Dianna Russini shared a hilarious voicemail she received from Broncos head coach Sean Payton about Bo Nix. 'You understand why he does the things he does and how he operates and when he's in love,' Russini said on Monday on The Bill Simmons Podcast. 'And he's in love with this team right now. Like even this summer. Coach reached out to me a few times checking in and I missed the call, which you know, how do you miss a head coach calling you but it happens. And he just left me a voicemail. I got to see if I still have it. I don't have a message it's just a beep and it's just Sean Payton going, 'I love my Q' and he hangs up.' Russini added that Payton's excitement about Nix ahead of the 2025 season does not seem like 'coach talk.' It is easy to understand Payton's enthusiasm about Nix in Denver. The legendary head coach finally has a quarterback who he is confident in. Payton and Nix could be ready to usher in a new era of Broncos football later this fall. Russini argued Broncos' Bo Nix could have won ROTY during the 2024 NFL season Payton is apparently not the only one who is high on Nix. Russini seems to be a fan of Nix herself. She made the argument that Nix could have won Rookie of the Year over Jayden Daniels if the Commanders had not made the NFC Championship. 'If Jayden Daniels doesn't take this team to the NFC Championship. You can make an argument that Bo Nix is Rookie if the Year right?' Russini continued. 'Like he threw for more touchdowns than Jayden. He threw for more yards. He took less sacks. Which that's like a big Sean Payton thing, which is why he didn't like Russell Wilson. He hates, hates quarterbacks who take sacks. I mean you want to piss him off? Talk about that.' It may sound like a farfetched narrative, but Nix and Daniels have very similar rookie seasons statistically. Nix threw for 3,775 yards with 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions with a quarterback rating of 93.3. Meanwhile, Daniels threw for 3,568 yards with 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions with a quarterback rating of 70.6. That said, Daniels is clearly the better runner. He had 148 carries for 891 rushing yards and six touchdowns, compared to Nix's 92 carries for 430 yards and four touchdowns. Regardless, Broncos fans have to be thrilled that they found their franchise QB in Bo Nix. Commanders' Terry McLaurin gets an unexpected boost in contract negotiations

Commanders' Terry McLaurin gets an unexpected boost in contract negotiations originally appeared on The Sporting News Terry McLaurin might not have the most leverage in the world in his trade request from the Washington Commanders. He's under contract for this season, which always complicates matters. His hold-in is only so effective if he's contractually obligated to suit up. But there's one thing working in his favor. The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala shared this thought on X on Wednesday: "The Commanders' lack of depth at WR is concerning. Terry McLaurin didn't have a ton of leverage in contract negotiations with the team, but that part is growing increasingly favorable for him." MORE: Rams legend Aaron Donald hints at return from retirement to play with Micah Parsons The Commanders can't really afford to have a meager receiving corps. Jayden Daniels is coming off a Rookie of the Year campaign at quarterback and is one of the most exciting young players in the NFL. Washington should be doing everything it can to support him, especially while he's on his affordable rookie deal. McLaurin is 30, yes, and maybe that means he isn't worth the four years and $132 million that two-years-younger DK Metcalf got earlier this offseason from the Steelers. But unless the likes of Deebo Samuel, Noah Brown, Jaylin Lane, Luke McCaffrey, Chris Moore and Michael Gallup inspire some immense confidence, McLaurin's absence will only loom larger and larger. MORE: Dak Prescott had an NSFW reaction to Micah Parsons' trade request There's still time, of course. The regular season is a month away. But this is a situation the Commanders can't afford to get wrong. Daniels, and the team's Super Bowl hopes, are too important. McLaurin might get paid simply because Washington doesn't have a ton of great alternatives.
