State has failed to deal with drugs, corruption & unaccounted cash: Supriya

Pune: Baramati MP
Supriya Sule
on Monday said she would draw attention of the Centre towards drugs menace, corruption and unaccounted cash in Maharashtra because state govt was not serious about these.
"These issues must be highlighted at the Union govt-level because the state has failed to resolve them. I will do it in Parliament if the state does not give justice in such matters," Sule, the NCP (SP) working president, told reporters after visiting the Sinhagad Road area, facing major traffic congestions of late.
According to Sule, the cash allegedly found in the residence of a state minister would have disheartened Prime Minister Narendra Modi and finance Minister Nirmala Sitaram — the proponents of cashless economy and digital payment systems.
She said it was worrisome for the nation if cash was found at the state-level when the Union govt was trying to focus on digitisation.

"The demonetisation was done to reduce black money. If a bagful of cash is found on such a large scale, an inquiry should be carried out about what happened to the demonetisation," she said.
Sule said if the state decided to fight against drugs, her party would join it. The govt was not doing enough to bring down the menace of drug addiction despite repeated letters to the state to deal with this problem, she said.

The Baramati MP termed the action of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against her nephew, MLA Rohit Pawar, "vendetta politics". The ED named Rohit in the chargesheet related to the purchase of Kannad cooperative sugar factory in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar by Baramati Agro Limited, owned by Rohit and his family members.
Sule said Rohit's name was not there in the first list of accused. Most of those in the first list joined BJP, she said.
"Names of the original accused have been removed from the list and a new list has been prepared, which features Rohit. He (Rohit) is in the opposition party and raising his voice against the corruption of the govt," she said.
According to Sule, the act of some Congress leaders from Pune joining BJP shows that the latter has no option but to induct them because they are talented. "BJP had made an announcement to make 'Congress Mukt Bharat' (India Congress-free).
But now, most of the Congress leaders are joining BJP," she said.
Sule also condemned the manhandling and thrashing of Praveen Gaikwad of Sambhaji Brigade. "Such attacks are a shame for the cultured state like Maharashtra. It is shocking that action has not been taken against the attackers despite having a criminal background," she said.
The Baramati MP also said she was not aware of the resignation of Jayant Patil, the state unit chief of NCP (SP).

Uttarakhand creating history in development and growth, says Amit Shah

Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday (July 19, 2025) said that it was a Bharatiya Janata Party government led by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee that carved out smaller States like Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, which are now creating history in development and growth. Speaking at Rudrapur during the celebration of 'Uttarakhand Investment Festival 2025' organised on realisation of ₹1 lakh crore investment in the State, Mr. Shah hailed the development being done by the Pushkar Singh Dhami government. He also inaugurated and laid foundation stones of various development works worth ₹1,271 crore. 'During the 2023 Global Investors Summit held in Uttarakhand, CM Dhami told me that the State had received MoUs worth ₹3.56 lakh crore. I told him that signing MoUs is not a major achievement — implementing them on the ground is the real challenge. Today, we are celebrating the grounding of investments worth over ₹1 lakh crore in the State,' he said. 'CM broke traditional perceptions' Heaping further praise for Mr. Dhami, the Union Minister added that garnering investments to landlocked and hilly regions is as challenging as climbing a mountain but the Chief Minister, despite all adverse circumstances, broke the traditional perceptions. Launching a scathing attack on the Opposition, Mr. Shah said that when the people of Uttarakhand were fighting for a separate Uttarakhand State, the Congress party persecuted the agitators fighting for it. 'Making Uttarakhand a separate State was done by the then PM Vajpayee who created three States — Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. These three States were formed and started moving forward in the path of development. The icing on the cake was when Narendra Modi became PM in 2014. Whatever Atalji created, Modiji worked to improve and enhance it. Now, there is a double engine government in Uttarakhand,' he added. 'Greater devolution of funds' He pointed out that during the Opposition party's government in the State between 2004 and 2014, a total of ₹53,000 crore was given to Uttarakhand for devolution and grants-in-aid, while Mr. Modi's government provided about three-and-a-half times more i.e. ₹1.86 lakh crore from 2014 to 2024. Apart from this, ₹31,000 crore was given for roads, ₹40,000 crore for railways and ₹100 crore for airports. 'Overall, we have given four-and-a-quarter times more money to Uttarakhand than the Opposition party's government. I am telling this to the Opposition that when the State develops, the practice of disrupting development should be stopped. When the State is progressing, it is the responsibility of every political party to support it,' he said.

Need stringent law to curb online gaming: Fadnavis plea to Centre

Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday made a fervent appeal in Maharashtra assembly for a central legislation to regulate online gaming, warning that absence of a dedicated law is leading to widespread addiction and exploitation of young users. "There is no specific law to ban online gaming," Fadnavis told the House, while responding to a calling attention motion raised by Congress MLA Kailas Ghadge Patil. "We have requested the govt to frame a comprehensive law to govern online lottery and gaming. The state will actively follow up on this request." While the Union ministry of electronics and IT has issued guidelines under IT Act, Fadnavis pointed out that these are insufficient to address the scale and impact of online gaming platforms — many of which involve monetary stakes and dodge regulation. Appealing to celebrities to avoid endorsing such platforms, he said, "These promotions glamorise gaming and mislead youth." Speaking in Nagpur, BJP senior leader and cultural affairs minister Sudhir Mungantiwar termed online gaming a serious "new-age addiction". He said, "Proper legal mechanisms must be established to bring such activities within a legal framework. Without legislation, we are leaving our youth vulnerable." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Beyond Text Generation: An AI Tool That Helps You Write Better Grammarly Install Now Undo In response to a related starred question concerning cyber frauds involving misuse of fake bank accounts under Ladki Bahin Scheme, Fadnavis listed ongoing state-level efforts to combat digital crimes. "We have set up 50 cyber police stations across Maharashtra, including five at the Mumbai commissionerate level," he said. "Cyber units are actively working on public outreach and education." The Maharashtra cyber department, in coordination with local police, has been running awareness campaigns and issuing social media advisories to curb online scams. Fadnavis added that judicial officers, forensic experts, and law enforcement personnel received advanced training to expedite cybercrime investigations and prosecutions. The state also established a dedicated Cyber Corporation and launched 50 cyber labs across districts to strengthen digital infrastructure. Fadnavis emphasised that public participation is key and encouraged citizens to report incidents through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. "We also activated helpline numbers 1945 and 1930 for instant reporting of online frauds," he said.

BJP using hate to deflect focus from real issues, says Akhilesh

Lucknow: Accusing the BJP of using discrimination and hate to further its politics at the cost of dividing people, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said people sitting on constitutional posts are deliberately using undemocratic means to shift focus of discourse from poor governance. SP's attack comes a day after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described allegations of hooliganism by Kanwariyas as fake news being spread by vested interests and said that Muharram processions featured "violence and arson" before he wielded the iron fist. "In order to shift the focus of the people from the failures of the govt, people occupying constitutional posts are using a language that is against the Constitution of India and the spirit of democracy. People are no longer interested in tolerating such politics of the BJP and will vote them out in 2027 assembly elections to put an end to their politics of hate once and for all," Akhilesh said in a statement. The conduct of the BJP govt and its leaders has been discriminatory and undemocratic. The deprived, neglected and discriminated sections of the society will join hands under SP's PDA to vote the BJP out in 2027 state polls, Akhilesh said. The SP chief said in 9 years of govt the BJP has failed the farmers, unemployed youth and women. "Youth are unemployed because BJP has outsourced vacancies in govt and ended reservation. The BJP does not want the youth to talk about this. The farmers are the worst hit in the absence of proper supply of quality seeds, fertilizers and free power for irrigation of crops. BJP promised to double the income of farmers by 2022. BJP does not want people to talk about these issues," Akhilesh said. Senior SP functionary Sudhir Panwar took on the BJP for the kanwariya–Muharram jibe and questioned BJP govt's response towards news reports of kanwariyas resorting to violence. He also questioned BJP's charge that Muharram processions featured violence and arson till the present govt acted tough on such issues. SP functionaries alleged that the BJP leadership wanted to raise the dispute to drag the opposition into a "communal discourse". "The opposition in general and Samajwadi Party in particular will not play to the tunes of the BJP. We will not fall into this trap," said a senior party functionary.
