Saha, 40, retired from first-class cricket in January this year at the end of Bengal's league stage campaign in the Ranji Trophy.
Six months into retirement from competitive cricket, one of India's finest wicketkeepers, Wriddhiman Saha, is all set to enter the coaching arena, with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) showing interest in hiring him as the head coach of the U-23 state team.
Saha, 40, retired from first-class cricket in January this year at the end of Bengal's league stage campaign in the Ranji Trophy.
It is understood that former Bengal skipper Laxmi Ratan Shukla will continue as the head coach of the senior team, while former off-spinner Saurashis Lahiri will coach the U-19 team.
'The CAB brass will be zeroing in on all the candidates for various teams by next week. Obviously, Wriddhi has been sounded out, and a final decision will be taken next week. Apart from Sourav Ganguly and Pankaj Roy, he is the biggest name from Bengal with 40 Tests," a senior CAB source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.
'His experience of playing top-level cricket for so long will only help the Gen-Next of Bengal cricket. Wriddhi already runs a chain of coaching centres, and he has been a very hands-on coach for juniors. He is passionate about coaching. Hopefully, he will be ready," the source said.
While there is not much precedence in Bengal cricket about players being drafted into the coaching system immediately after retirement, Saha's case is slightly different considering his stature in state cricket.
The Bengal U-23 side till last season was being coached by former India opener Pranab Roy, son of the legendary late Pankaj Roy.
Many people in the Bengal circuit believe that Saha is cut out to become a good coach. His experience with the U-23 squad could prove to be handy if he joins any IPL team in the future or as a specialist coach at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Dahiya vs Sarandeep for Delhi men's Ranji coach job
Delhi Ranji team's head coach job is expected to be a two-way battle between former India players Sarandeep Singh and Vijay Dahiya, both of whom have applied for the post.
The Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) is conducting interviews for support staff and selectors for various age groups (U-16, U-19, U-23) along with senior teams.
Sarandeep is the current Delhi head coach, while Dahiya has handled the state team on a couple of occasions in the past. The former India stumper is an assistant coach with Lucknow Super Giants and has also coached the Uttar Pradesh Ranji team.
'There are three candidates in the running. Sarandeep, who is our current head coach, and Dahiya, who has extensive coaching experience, have both appeared for interviews. The third strong candidate is former Delhi keeper Rajiv Vinayak," a senior DDCA official privy to developments said.

London, Jul 19 (PTI) Opener Amy Jones hit a fluent 46 not out as England made short work of an out-of-sorts India, winning the rain-hit second Women's ODI by eight wickets at the Lord's on Saturday. After a fine batting performance in the opening match in which India chased down a target of 259, it was a listless show by the Women in Blue as they huffed and puffed their way to 143 for 8 in 29 overs with Smriti Mandhana's 42 being the top score. After injuring bowling hand, Arshdeep unlikely to be fit enough for fourth Test
Agency: Last Updated: Manchester, Jul 19 (PTI) Injured Indian left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who is yet to play in the ongoing Test series against England, is unlikely to be available for selection for the fourth Test beginning in Manchester from July 23. Arshdeep, who is yet to play Test cricket, injured his left hand while trying to stop a shot from Sai Sudharsan's on his follow through during the net session in Beckenham on Thursday. The Indian team on Saturday arrived in Manchester in their bid to level the five match series following the heartbreak of Lord's. Following the training session in Beckenham, Arshdeep was walking around with his bowling hand bandaged. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, in as many words, had hinted that Arshdeep would be racing against time to get fit for the Manchester Test even though he had not found a playing eleven spot in the first three games. 'We'll take a call on the combination we play, particularly given the Arshdeep situation as well, we'll make that call closer to Manchester," said Doeschate referring to the left-arm pacer getting injured during training. 'He took a ball while he was bowling there, Sai had a ball and he tried to stop it and it's just a cut, so we have to see how bad the cut is. Obviously the medical team has taken him off to see a doctor and obviously if he needs stitches or doesn't need stitches that's going to be important to our planning for the next few days," he had said post training in Beckenham. The left-arm pacer was only likely to get a shot if one of two senior pacers — Jasprit Bumrah or Mohammed Siraj happen to be rested due to workload management. Bumrah, Siraj and Akash Deep formed the pace trio at Lord's. It remains to be seen if Bumrah decides to play the Manchester Test or the fifth one at The Oval with the series on the line already. There is no clarity over the availability of Akash Deep, who is dealing with a groin niggle. Siraj has featured in all the games so far and is due for some rest.
