SSTMI Tsunami battle SSMP Falcons for rugby supremacy
KUALA LUMPUR: All eyes will be on Sekolah Sukan Malaysia Pahang (SSMP Falcons) and defending champions Sekolah Sukan Tunku Mahkota Ismail (SSTMI Tsunami) at the Super Schools Rugby Academy Division Grand Final at Taman Ekuestrian Putrajaya tomorrow. Both teams, who have been unbeaten this season, are in contention for the biggest prize purse in the tournament's history, the winners take home RM10,000 and the runners-up get RM5,000. This is nearly double the prize money from the inaugural 2024 edition, also won by SSTMI. SSMP, led by coach Nasrul Hakim, secured their spot in the final after a hard-fought 28–26 win over Akademi Ragbi Selangor. "This final represents the fruits of our hard work throughout the year. Facing SSTMI, a team we deeply respect, makes this occasion all the more meaningful. We are ready to create history for SSMP," said Nasrul. SSTMI, coached by former national captain Syahir Asyraf, booked their berth in the final with a 27–22 victory over SMK King Edward VII. "Every time SSTMI reach the final, we carry a legacy that must be defended. More importantly, we want to demonstrate that school-level development can produce future stars. This match is for the entire Malaysian rugby community," said Syahir.
