Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick going to Italy for a wedding and some mafia intrigue in the movie 'Another Simple Favor' and Tina Fey and Steve Carell reuniting for the Netflix series 'The Four Seasons' are some of the new television, films, music and games headed to a device near you.
Also among the streaming offerings worth your time, as selected by The Associated Press' entertainment journalists: Season 2 of 'The Walking Dead: Dead City' lumbers into view, RaMell Ross' shattering movie 'Nickel Boys' and country music duo Maddie & Tae return with another album full of good-time anthems.
New movies to stream from April 28-May 4
— Murder, betrayal and martinis are on the menu for 'Another Simple Favor,' which brings Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick's characters to Italy for a wedding, and some mafia intrigue. Paul Feig returned to the director's chair for the film which got largely favorable reviews out of the South by Southwest Film Festival. 'Another Simple Favor' premieres on Prime Video on May 1.
— Also coming to Prime Video is one of the best movies of 2024, RaMell Ross' shattering 'Nickel Boys,' which begins streaming on April 29. The adaptation of Colson Whitehead's Pulitzer-winning novel employs a first-person point of view to tell the story of two boys at a brutal reform school in the Jim Crow South. In my review, I wrote that it was 'formally and emotionally eye-opening,' a memory piece and 'a reconciling of unspeakable traumas and human resilience.' It was Oscar nominated for best picture and best adapted screenplay.
— There's another gem streaming on MUBI on Friday, May 2, but this is likely one most haven't heard of. The independent film 'La Cocina' flew under the radar with a modest release, but it's worth a watch for anyone who loves innovative cinema. Directed by Alonso Ruizpalacios, 'La Cocina' is an artistic behind-the-scenes look at a kitchen staff during the lunch rush at a busy Times Square restaurant. The tension is ramped up due to missing money and interpersonal drama between an undocumented chef (Raúl Briones) and the waitress he loves (Rooney Mara).

New music to stream from April 28-May 4
— In a recent viral interview, the innovative Swedish rapper Yung Lean declared 'the party is over.' In the music video for 'Forever Yung,' the lead single from his forthcoming record, he takes that spirit quite literally and holds a funeral for himself. It's a sinisterly cheerful affair, bolstered by the song's lo-fi production and reverbed vocals. His latest album, 'Jonatan' — taken from his real name Jonatan Leandoer Håstad — arrives Friday via World Affairs.
— Country music duo Maddie & Tae return with another album full of good-time anthems titled 'Love & Light,' their latest for Mercury Nashville/UMG. 'Drunk Girls in Bathrooms' might be the most romantic song written about a glorious five-minute friendship; 'Kissing Cowboys' sounds like a raucous good time in a crowded dive bar. It is the soundtrack to a summertime road trip with girlfriends.
— Isaiah Falls, a fresh voice in R&B, will release the A-side to his debut album, 'LVRS PARADISE' on Friday. The rising talent brings Southern Florida bounce to his smooth vocal performances.

New television to stream from April 28-May 4
— Tina Fey and Steve Carell — who teamed up in 2010 for 'Date Night' — are reuniting again for the upcoming Netflix series 'The Four Seasons.' Based on the 1981 movie of the same name, 'The Four Seasons' is a comedy-drama about three couples who take four yearly vacations together, one for each season. Fey and Carell are joined by Will Forte, Colman Domingo, Marco Calvani and Kerri Kenney-Silver. Fey co-created 'The Four Seasons' with her '30 Rock' collaborators Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield. It starts Thursday.
— Season 2 of 'The Walking Dead: Dead City' lumbers into view Sunday, May 4 on AMC. One of six 'Walking Dead' spin-offs produced so far, 'Dead City' reunites the show's unlikely duo — Negan, played by Jeffery Dean Morgan, and Maggie, played by Lauren Cohan. They are trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, long since isolated from the mainland. New faces joining the cast include Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy) as the menacing Bruegel, Keir Gilchrist (Atypical) as Benjamin Pierce, and Dascha Polanco (Orange Is the New Black) as Major Lucia Narvaez.
— Apple TV+ hits the kitchen Wednesday with "Carême," a French historical drama that's being called 'The Bear' crossed with 'The Bourne Identity.' It tells the story of Marie-Antonin Carême, often called the father of French cuisine, as he climbs to the height of culinary stardom in Napoleon's Europe. It's not just a food show — our hero must also navigate the volatile world of shifting political alliances, royal secrets and revolution-fueled suspicions.
— NBC is also heading to the kitchen with 'Yes, Chef!,' a new cooking competition that pairs Martha Stewart and José Andrés. The show pits 12 professional chefs and Stewart and Andrés will judge their cooking skills and ability to work together as they complete in a series of high-stakes culinary challenges. The top chef will take home a $250,000 grand prize. 'Yes, Chef!' premieres Monday and streams on Peacock a day later.

New video games to play week of April 28-May 4
— Skin Deep isn't the sort of title you'd expect from California's Blendo Games, a one-man studio that has blessed us with gonzo cult hits like Quadrilateral Cowboy and Thirty Flights of Loving. But designer Brendon Chung's signature weirdness is all over the story, in which insurance agent Nina Pasadena has to rescue a bunch of frozen cats from space pirates. The bad guys are well-armed but Nina isn't, so she'll have to use whatever's at hand — broken glass, banana peels, boxes of ragweed — to take them down before she can hurl them out the airlock. It's like 'Die Hard' on a space station with a healthy dose of slapstick, and it launches Wednesday on PC.

Love Is Blind UK fans slam furious rant by star in very public display

The next batch of episodes have been released on Netflix ‌ A Love Is Blind UK star released a furious rant towards an ex in an explosive row during a reunion party. ‌ Today (August 20) saw the next four episodes of the brand new Love Is Blind UK released on Netflix where the newly engaged couples began to navigate their new lives together. But with that, comes more hurdles and obstacles as they live with one another and meet each other's loved ones. ‌ As well as tensions rising between the couples, this week also saw a reunion party with the fellow Love Is Blind cast, but it ended in an explosive row. Last week saw human design coach Patrick being guided by his 'spleen' as he decided against proposing to professional singer Aanu. But when the pair came face to face in this week's episodes, Aanu was far from impressed. She said: " I'm quite, what you see is what you get, which I feel like I've not had the same gratitude from you." Apologising for "ruining her experience", Aanu interrupted Patrick as she continued: "You took the experience away from me Patrick. You reassured me so much with your words." She went on to say: "It's let me know then and there. You didn't let me know then and there... You're a liar, you're a liar, you're a liar." Things soon turned sour as Patrick said: "There is no way that me and you were meant to be together..... At the end I basically had to make a decision." But Aanu interrupted, saying: "Your head scarf looks silly as well, it doesn't match your outfit... Why have you got a head scarf on anyway?" ‌ Branding the comment as "crazy", Patrick replied: "I thought it would be a good look for me." Aanu eventually stormed away from the conversation, as she stated: "Good luck with your splenic rectum." And fans have been unimpressed with the altercation. ‌ Over on Reddit, one user said "Aanu did not Carry herself Well.. that was embarrassing. For her. So uncontrolled." Another said they were "embarrassed", adding: "Yeah she was messy both in the Javen interactions and how hard she went in on Patrick. Embarrassed for her." A third commented: "I'm not done with the episode yet but 'my spinal rectum' made me spit out my water." One fan was left "crying" as they said: "I think his spleen is being burst a bit here crying." On X, one fan said: "'Good luck with your splenic rectum' IM F***** SCREAMING." As another replied: "Aanu", coupled with a line of laughing emojis. A third penned: "I get Aanu was feeling annoyed about how her situation with Patrick ended but she just started acting immature and not letting him talk + making silly jabs .. it was a bit weird."

Love Is Blind UK: Where Are Katisha And Javen Now?

Viewers have been hooked to the drama on the new series of Love Is Blind UK. Season two of Netflix's dating show, hosted by Emma and Matt Willis, has seen five couples getting engaged within the first four episodes, but how many of them will last to make it up the altar? Katisha on Love Is Blind ©Netflix The dating experiment sees the contestants getting to know each other in the famous Pods without seeing one another, before their real-life meeting once they commit and get engaged. They then spend a week together in Cyprus for a post-pod retreat before returning to the UK to live together and plan their wedding. Katisha, 31, and Javen, 28, were the last couple to get engaged after getting involved in a love triangle with Demola Ayilara, following her shock last-minute turn-around. At the end of the first four episodes, Katisha and Javen are still together, after the nanny and make-up artist did a 180 and chose to pursue her connection with the health coach over Demola. But is their relationship strong enough to last, despite the shaky start and other members of the pod squad questioning their relationship? Demola's upcoming return could also throw a spanner in their blissful union. Javen and Katisha on Love Is Blind ©Netflix From the start, Katisha and Javen connected on more than a superficial level. Drawn to her 'kind spirit', he persuaded her to open up on their first pod date, where she confided her fears of being vulnerable in her search for love because of a traumatic past break-up. Katisha told him that her last boyfriend was unfaithful many times but she always took him back. They also spoke of their united desire to have two to three children in the future. On their second meet, they discussed the importance of having both physical and emotional intimacy in a romantic partnership, and Katisha is taken with Javen's honesty. At the same time, Katisha was getting to know financial analyst Demola, who was more open about wanting to be with her unlike Javen, who held back and played it cool. When Demola told Katisha that she is deserving of the affection he had been bestowing on her, she decided he was the one. As she went to her next date with Javen with the intention to cool things between them, she reassured Demola, 'Don't worry, nothing's going to change. I feel confident in my decision.' Katisha on Love Is Blind ©Netflix But when she tried to call it quits with Javen, the former professional footballer made a romantic gesture with flowers and declared his feelings. 'I feel like you're the one,' he told her, leading her to second-guess her decision. She then went back on her promise to a shocked Demola, breaking off their relationship, and Javen and Katisha got engaged. However, when they met the other couples in Cyprus, the pair's relationship came under fire. Kal called Katisha out for the way she treated Demola and also brought up the issue with Javen about his fiancee's sudden and unexpected change of mind. We'll have to wait and see how that all affects Katisha and Javen's relationship. Suranne Jones details 'rambunctious' experience shadowing Keir Starmer for thriller role

Suranne Jones has opened up about her 'rambunctious' experience shadowing Keir Starmer for her new Netflix thriller and detailed one fiery moment in particular Suranne Jones has opened up about her 'rambunctious' experience shadowing Keir Starmer for her new Netflix thriller. ‌ The former Coronation Street actress, 46, is now starring as fictional Prime Minister Abigail Dalton in Hostage, and follows the events that unfold after her character attends a summit with the French president Vivienne Toussaint (Julie Delpy) and her husband is kidnapped. ‌ As part of her research for the role, Suranne took a trip to Downing Street and ventured into the House of Commons, where she managed to catch a heated moment with the real-life Prime Minister. Speaking on Wednesday's edition of This Morning, she told hosts Sian Welby and Craig Doyle: "I did go to the House of Commons. It was great because when we then built our set, I'd been in the actual place. We did see Keir Starmer having a...[debate] it was quite rambunctious." ‌ The actress noted her disbelief at watching it all take place in front of her as she added: "There was a lot of shouting in there. You don't believe it til you see it!" The UK has only seen two female Prime Ministers in its time, with the late Margaret Thatcher having served a leader of the Conservative party from 1979 until 1990. In October 2022, Liz Truss became the shortest-serving Prime Minister in the country's history having managed to survive just 50 days in office. Suranne noted the lack of females in such a role of power but approached the role with a 'fresh' perspective, which she believes was necessary when taking into account the current political climate. She said: "We haven't got a lot of women to look at, have we? But that's another great thing. What I did and women in power, I wanted Abigail to be a fresh set of eyes, and the political landscape as it is, we needed that as it is." However, Suranne, who has carved out a stellar career in drama since leaving her role as Karen McDonald on ITV's flagship soap more than two decades ago, recently admitted she wouldn't want to take on the top job at number 10 in real life, mainly because of the amount of 'baggage' her new alter-ego has to carry round. ‌ She said: "A woman, before she's even put on her very high, hurty shoes, she has a lot of baggage and a lot of things that she is carrying: the way she looks, the way she dresses, the way she's been educated. "All of those things. How she behaves with her family or her background, everything, before she starts to go out into the world and getting judged for it. "Obviously, I'm well known. People recognise me. I try to keep a private element to my life, but then I do want to show support of the charities I work for and all of that stuff, and the community theatre that I like to give elevation to, so I drew on a lot of that stuff. But I wouldn't want to be a prime minister." ‌ She continued: "The early name for the show was The Choice and I think that's the thing, the choice of wanting a job like that, the choice of your family or your country. "It blows my mind, I can't even imagine... obviously, I had to because I play the prime minister, so I did have to imagine. But these big, big choices, they're huge and so it's just making people think." The five-part political thriller witnesses Dalton being blackmailed following her husband's kidnapping whilst he's working overseas, with the captors threatening his murder unless she steps down from office.
