Egypt Ranks Second Globally in Exports of Temporarily Preserved Vegetables
Egypt has solidified its position as a global agricultural powerhouse, securing the second place worldwide in the export of temporarily preserved vegetables (HS Code 071190) for the year 2024, according to a new report from the Food Export Council.
The country exported 54,000 metric tons of vegetables preserved temporarily, a category that includes products prepared for further processing, generating $66 million in export revenue. This accounted for a 15.4% share of global exports in the category, a significant milestone that reflects Egypt's fast-growing competitiveness in processed agricultural goods.
Egypt's performance in this sector has been consistently improving, with the report noting an annual value growth rate of 15% and a volume growth rate of 12% between 2020 and 2024.
On a year-over-year basis, exports increased 10% in value between 2023 and 2024, despite global trade fluctuations, a sign of resilient supply chains, stable production infrastructure, and growing global confidence in Egyptian agricultural products.
Top Export Destinations in 2024
The report identified five key markets that accounted for 83% of Egypt's exports in this category:
Italy – $33 million (51%)
United States – $8 million (12%)
Germany – $7 million (10%)
Spain – $4 million (5%)
Russia – $3 million (5%)
These figures underscore Egypt's growing reputation as a reliable supplier of safe, high-quality, and standard-compliant agricultural products, particularly to advanced economies with stringent food safety regulations.
Positioning Egypt for Future Expansion
The Food Export Council emphasized that the sector's momentum is opening new opportunities for global market expansion, especially in response to rising international demand for sustainable and traceable food sources.

Egypt Develops Remote Controlled Armed Robot Anubis for Combat Use
H-Tayea The Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) has unveiled a new range of locally produced defense technologies during an inspection visit, including an advanced 30mm combat turret currently in production. The turret will be equipped with state-of-the-art targeting and vision systems, warning systems, and the capability to mount two anti-tank guided missiles. Egypt annual core inflation rises to 11.6% in July: CBE - Economy
Egypt's annual core inflation rose to 11.6 percent in July, up from 11.4 percent in June, according to the Central Bank of Egypt's (CBE) calculations published on Sunday. On a monthly basis, the core inflation decreased to negative 0.3 percent in July 2025, an improvement from negative 0.5 percent in July 2024 and a slight drop from negative 0.2 percent in June 2025. In tandem, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced that urban headline inflation recorded negative 0.5 percent for July 2025, compared to 0.4 percent in July 2024 and negative 0.1 percent in June 2025. It added that the urban headline inflation stands at 13.9 percent year-on-year, down from 14.9 percent in June 2025. These inflation trends highlight the evolving economic landscape in Egypt, with core inflation showing signs of stabilization amid broader economic challenges. Global inflation is on a downward path, with headline inflation expected to decrease to 4.2 percent in 2025 and 3.6 percent in 2026. This is largely consistent with the projections of the April World Economic Outlook (WEO) report, published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in July. This decline is primarily due to reduced demand and falling energy prices despite the notable regional differences. In the United States, tariffs are creating a supply-side shock that is gradually impacting consumer prices, causing inflation to remain above the Federal Reserve's two percent target through 2026. The Egyptian government is committed to adjusting retail fuel prices toward cost recovery, expected in December 2025, creating additional fiscal room for targeted social assistance under its ongoing $8 billion loan deal with the IMF. Bonyan Reports Strong 9% Growth in Gross Asset Value for H1 2025, Outpacing Inflation
Bonyan for Development and Trade announced that its Gross Asset Value (GAV) reached EGP 17.41 billion in the first half of 2025, marking a 9% increase from EGP 15.96 billion in FY 2024. The growth outpaced Egypt's 7.9% headline inflation for the same period, translating to a GAV of EGP 171.2k per square meter as of June 2025. The valuation, conducted by Global Appraisal Tech (GAT) — an FRA-licensed independent valuator — was based on a comparable sales approach using recent market transactions for similar vacant properties. A 5% discount was applied to reflect the bulk nature of Bonyan's asset portfolio, and the figures exclude income-generating potential from leased properties. CEO Tarek Abdelrahman highlighted Bonyan's positioning as a Real Estate Operating Company (REOC), which not only manages and owns assets but also reinvests cash flows to service acquisition liabilities and pursue new opportunities. 'Our model is well-suited for emerging markets where capital appreciation potential is high. GAV remains the most relevant measure of our performance, and our results continue to exceed inflationary pressures,' Abdelrahman said. He added that the company's current GAV represents a significant improvement from its implied Enterprise Value per square meter at IPO, which stood at EGP 95.5k. 'This performance affirms our belief in the intrinsic value and resilience of Bonyan,' he noted.
