Health issues, study commitments among reasons 30% skip PLKN 3.0, says Mohamed Khaled
He said the main reasons cited were health issues and offers to pursue higher education.
"So far, each series of PLKN 3.0 has recorded an absentee rate of about 10% to 15%, mostly due to valid reasons such as illness or having just offered a university placement.
He said this to reporters after attending the opening ceremony of the Kembara Lestari Kota Tinggi with Universiti Malaysia Pahang Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) at Felda Lok Heng Barat here on Thursday (July 17).
Mohamed Khaled said PLKN 3.0 is still in the trial phase, with full implementation expected to begin next year.
The programme, which maintains a 45-day training period, has received positive feedback from participants, particularly on the military training elements, which were deemed effective in instilling discipline and building identity.
"Participants from the previous two series gave good feedback and requested that the military training content be improved," he said.
PLKN 3.0 Series 1/2025 was held at the 515th Territorial Army Regiment Camp in Kuala Lumpur for 45 days, from Jan 12 to Feb 25. Series 2/2025 ran from May 11 to June 24, while Series 3 will take place from Sept 7 to Oct 21 at the 515th Territorial Army Regiment Camp and the 505th Territorial Army Regiment Camp in Pekan, Pahang. - Bernama

It's haze season again: Unhealthy air readings recorded in Port Dickson, Johan Setia
KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 — Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan and Johan Setia in Selangor recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 4 pm today. According to the Environment Department's Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) website, Port Dickson registered an API reading of 124, while Johan Setia recorded 109. Meanwhile, 60 other areas recorded moderate API levels, including Banting, Selangor (94), Cheras, Kuala Lumpur (89), Nilai, Negeri Sembilan (86), Kota Bharu, Kelantan (85), Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu (84) and Sungai Petani, Kedah (83). API readings between 0 and 50 are categorised as good, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy), while 300 and above are hazardous. KUPEKMAS Urges Expansion Of MADANI Workers' Card To Pensioners
KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Government Pensioners' Association (KUPEKMAS) has urged the Unity government to consider extending the MADANI Workers' Card initiative to pensioners to help ease their cost of living. Its president, Datuk Omar Osman, said many retirees still support their families and require continued government assistance to manage expenses. 'Pensioners also deserve access to discounts, as many still have financial dependents. We appeal to the government, especially the Prime Minister, to extend the MADANI Workers' Card to all pensioners,' he told Bernama after the National Pensioners Day 2025 celebration at Dewan Yayasan Bena Nusa today. The membership card is issued to union members nationwide, offering various discounts and special benefits provided by over 100 participating companies. Meanwhile, KUPEKMAS deputy president Mohd Shaman Jaes urged the Ministry of Health to expedite the appointment of pensioners to the Hospital Visitors Board nationwide, so their concerns can be heard directly from the ground. Mohd Shaman stressed that having pensioners represented on the board is crucial to ensure that real issues faced by retirees regarding access to healthcare are conveyed directly to the Health Ministry. 'Healthcare is one of the main concerns for pensioners, alongside financial challenges. We want actual retirees to represent us on the board, not other groups,' he said.
