Lululemon opens first European airport store in London
The new 103-square-metre store offers passengers travelling through Heathrow access to Lululemon's range of leggings, yoga gear, travel-friendly layers and accessories.
'We are thrilled to welcome lululemon to Heathrow, their first airport store in Europe,' said Fraser Brown, retail director at Heathrow.
'As we strive to make every journey better, the launch of lululemon in Terminal 5 will give passengers the opportunity to enjoy their travel experience with added comfort and style. lululemon has amassed a cult following for good reason, and we are excited to welcome such an iconic activewear brand to Heathrow.'
As part of the launch, Heathrow Rewards members will also receive double points when they spend £100 or more in the new store over the next two weeks.
The store opened on Friday, strategically timed ahead of the peak summer travel season.

EU signs €500 million loan to secure Ukraine's energy security
The European Commission signed a guarantee agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to mobilise €500 million for Ukraine's energy sector. The loan, which would be financed under the EU's Ukraine Investment Framework, would allow Ukraine's state-owned Naftogaz to finance emergency gas purchases. The agreement aims to restore energy sources ahead of the autumn and winter months. Russia has recently intensified its attacks on energy infrastructure, causing storage reserves to drop to their lowest level in more than a decade, local media reported. "These attacks on civilian infrastructure occurring at increased intensity in the first half of 2025 have resulted in significant production losses and a stress situation on the reserves of the country ahead of the next winters," the European Commission wrote in a statement on Wednesday. The energy company confirmed it would source natural gas competitively from over 30 prequalified suppliers and that its contracts would meet European standards. "This is a clear signal that our partners understand the scale of the threat posed by Russia. Energy security today and energy independence in the future are our strategic priorities," Sergii Koretskyi, Chief Executive Officer of Naftogaz said. Ukraine's Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko called it a "record-breaking agreement for Ukraine" in a post on Telegram, adding that it is the EBRD's largest project in the country. "For the first time, such a loan is provided under EU guarantee, without Ukraine's state guarantee," Svyrydenko said. "This will allow Ukraine to better prepare for the heating season and provide Ukrainian homes with heat and light even on the most difficult days of winter," she added.

Ariane 6 carrying climate monitoring satellite succesfully launched
Europe's new Ariane 6 rocket successfully launched for a third time on Tuesday night, carrying a satellite into orbit for weather forecasting and climate monitoring. "The success of this second commercial launch confirms the performance, reliability, and precision of Ariane 6," said Martin Sion, CEO of ArianeGroup, operator of the rocket. "Once again, the new European heavy-lift launcher meets Europe's needs, ensuring sovereign access to space," Sion added. It marks the second commercial flight of the rocket, which has been in development for almost a decade with the European Space Agency (ESA). It is significant as it gives Europe independent access to space and reduces its reliance on Elon Musk's SpaceX. Phil Evans, Director-General of European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), said the newly launched satellite will also help European countries "build resilience against the climate crisis". 'Extreme weather has cost Europe hundreds of billions of euros and tens of thousands of lives over the past 40 years," Evans said in a statement after the launch. He noted that the launch is a "major step forward in giving national weather services in our member states sharper tools to save lives, protect property, and build resilience against the climate crisis". Lift-off took place at Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. Spacecraft separation followed after 1 hour and 4 minutes, Arianespace said. Airbus Defence and Space built the spacecraft under a contract with the ESA. It will be operated by EUMETSAT, which will distribute its data to users. The Ariane 6 was first launched in July 2024 on its inaugural flight, and was launched once again on its first commercial mission March of this year.

Trump wields Alaska and Texas gas as global power play
By inviting Vladimir Putin to Alaska on August 15, Donald Trump is putting the territory the United States bought from tsarist Russia in 1867 back on the world's geopolitical map. The 82-kilometer-wide Bering Strait locks the passage from the Pacific to the Arctic, now increasingly free of ice, for the two nuclear powers. Trump is also putting Alaska back on the world energy map. Since taking office, Trump has urged companies to "Drill, baby, drill." His so-called tariff negotiations have pressured allies into buying American liquefied natural gas (LNG): $750 billion over three years from the European Union (EU), $100 billion from South Korea and an unspecified amount from Japan. Meanwhile, Taiwan, the Philippines and Vietnam have expressed interest in US LNG but have not signed binding agreements. These promises and forced expressions of interest are one thing, but the reality on the ground is another. The European pledge, in particular, is completely unrealistic, as we'll get back to later. There are two possible routes to buy natural gas. One is the Gulf of Mexico, where LNG tankers currently depart with Texan shale gas bound for Europe. However, this option is not ideal for Asian buyers, who must sail south of the equator, cross the expensive Panama Canal and then traverse the Pacific.
