Annual Litter Dash helps clean up Sioux City

Yahoo19-04-2025

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — On Friday, the City of Sioux City invited residents, businesses, schools, and community groups to the annual Sioux City Litter Dash.
The litter cleanup event aims to help beautify the Siouxland community and reduce the impact of litter on the environment. Around 600 volunteers were split into different sections of Sioux City to pick up as much litter as they could while trying to reach a goal of collecting four to five tons.
Woodbury County Parks will open on May 1
'Obviously, it's a great way to meet other people that like the environment, that enjoy getting out and doing things for our community,' said Arah Montagne with Sioux City Environmental Services. 'It's great for our community to keep it clean. I know we get a lot of fence lines in there that get a lot of trash caught on them. So we want to keep those areas clean, especially with summer coming up, and we have a lot of visitors.'
The Litter Dash began at noon and ended at 3 p.m.

Endangered goats born at the Bronx Zoo

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — About a dozen baby goats from an endangered species were recently born at the Bronx Zoo. The zoo welcomed 11 Turkmenian markhor kids this spring, and more might be on the way, according to a spokesperson for the Bronx Zoo. Markhor goats, which are native to the mountains of Central Asia, are known for their dramatic spiraled horns. They are considered highly endangered, the spokesperson said. The Bronx Zoo has one of the largest herds of Turkmenian markhor in the country. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Outage at Tazewell County 911 center results in calls routed to Peoria County

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Calling 911 in Tazewell County, at least for the time being, will send a person to Peoria's emergency dispatch center due to an outage. In a Facebook post, the county's 911 dispatch center said 'All 911 lines coming into our center are down. If you call 911, the call will be routed to Peoria County and they will either take the information or transfer the call to us.' The center said they hoped to have the issue resolved by Thursday afternoon. 'You can call us direct on any of the non-emergency police lines or 309-346-3132 and 309-346-4141. Sorry for the inconvenience. This issue is out of our control,' the post said. This story will be updated. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
