Shohei Ohtani has new venture up his sleeve — a children's book
Just days after the two-way star's fifth All-Star appearance, Ohtani, 31, announced that he is coming out with a children's book.
Ohtani posted to his Instagram on Thursday that he had co-written a children's book about his dog, Decoy.

The book, titled 'Decoy Saves Opening Day,' is available for preorder and is set to be released in February of next year.
According to the book's website from publisher HarperCollins, the story is about Decoy forgetting his lucky baseball when he is set to throw out the first pitch on Opening Day.

The website also says Ohtani plans to use the profits from the book to help non-profit animal rescue organizations.
'Shohei Ohtani is the biggest name in baseball and a proud sponsor of animal rescue organizations,' the website reads. 'Shohei and Decoy hope to use the publication of 'Decoy Saves Opening Day' to support the work these amazing nonprofits do helping dogs find their forever homes. While their fictional counterparts are saving opening day, Shohei and Decoy are working to help real-life animals in need.'
Outside of the book writing, Ohtani is ramping up his full-time pitching comeback for the Dodgers.

In his final outing before the All-Star break on Saturday, Ohtani threw three scoreless innings in the Dodgers' 2-1 victory over the rival Giants.
The three-time MVP allowed just one hit while striking out four in his fifth appearance this season.
'Overall a very efficient outing,' Ohtani told reporters through an interpreter. 'I was glad that I was able to prevent runs and we were able to keep the lead throughout the game.'

Ohtani, who did not pitch during the 2024 season, also said he felt his command is improving.
'Aside from the stuff, I'm more happy with the command of my pitches and being able to attack the zone,' Ohtani said. 'Today was one of those days where my fastball felt pretty good, so I leaned on it a little bit more today.'
At the plate, he leads the National League with 32 home runs and a .988 OPS.

Russell Wilson joined Gabe Davis at dinner during New York Giants visit
Throughout free agency and the draft, one of the main focuses for the New York Giants has been ensuring that there are enough skill players for Russell Wilson to throw the ball to this fall. Malik Nabers, Wan'Dale Robinson, and Darius Slayton are the sure starters in 2025, but after that, it gets a little murky. In May, the Giants hosted former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Gabe Davis for a visit. It wasn't a traditional free-agent visit, but more of a "let's see where you're at" visit focused on medical evaluations and system familiarity. Davis appeared on the Up & Adams Show on Thursday, and Davis shared some details on that visit. "It was great, Chad (Hall), Dabes, Shea (Tierney), all those, Joe (Schoen), I mean, it was awesome," Davis said. "Going out to New York and seeing those guys and talking with them. Russ, Russ came to dinner, that was dope, you know, to have Russell Wilson there. That was pretty sick. He's a legend." Davis was drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. He played there, catching passes from Josh Allen, until his rookie contract expired and he signed a one-year deal with the Jags. Through 72 games over four seasons, Davis has recorded 183 passes for 2,969 yards and 29 touchdowns with four fumbles. He also has postseason experience, which is crucial to the locker room. In seven postseason games, Davis has 22 receptions for 474 yards and six touchdowns with zero fumbles. Davis currently remains a free agent, but as camp continues, that could change.

Saints Countdown to Kickoff: Matthew Hayball is the Saints Player of Day 43
Hayball looks to become the first incumbent in the last three years to hold onto the Saints punting job There are 43 days left before the New Orleans Saints open their 2025 regular season. They'll do so at home against the Arizona Cardinals, also marking the first official game on the sidelines for new head coach Kellen Moore. Punter Matthew Hayball wears No. 43 for New Orleans, looking to enter his second year with the squad. Our Saints Player of the Day, here's a closer look at Hayball's background. Growing up in west Australia, Hayball was a midfielder in Australian rules football and was even selected in the 2015 Australian Football League draft, where he played for three years. He originally attended Florida Atlantic University in America. In three years with the Owls, he averaged 44.4 yards per punt and was honorable mention All-Conference USA twice. Hayball transferred to Vanderbilt in 2022 and would average 46.5 yards per punt in his two years with the Commodores. As a senior in 2023, Hayball was awarded 1st Team All-SEC and 2nd Team All-American accolades. While not selected in the 2024 NFL draft, Hayball was the second overall choice in the Canadian Football League global draft by the Ottawa Redblacks. Instead, he'd elect a training camp tryout with the New Orleans Saints. Hayball would beat out Saints incumbent punter and fellow Australian Lou Hedley for the job in preseason. Hayball had a gross average of 44 yards and net average of 40.4 last season. He pinned 41 of his 75 punts inside the opponents 20-yard line and had just 3 touchbacks. He'd also execute a fake punt, rushing 11 yards for a first down. Hayball led the NFL last season in punts downed inside the opposing 20. Matthew Hayball will face competition again for a roster spot, this time as the incumbent. Undrafted rookie James Burnip from Alabama, also an Australian rules football player, was signed by New Orleans after the draft. The Saints have had a different punter in each of the last three seasons.
