Kenya striker Olunga bids farewell to Al Duhail as club's all-time top scorer
Al Duhail confirmed the striker's departure in a heartfelt statement posted on their official website, praising Olunga's professionalism, discipline, and immense contribution to the club's recent successes.
'Olunga was an example of professionalism and discipline on and off the field, and contributed significantly to the club's numerous achievements and championships,' the club said.
'He left a clear mark on the club's history through his decisive goals and contributions to the first football team.'
Olunga, 31, joined the Qatari side from Japan's Kashiwa Reysol in January 2021 and hit the ground running.
On his debut for Al Duhail, he scored in a 7-1 demolition of Al Wakrah at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium. From that moment, his goal-scoring instincts and leadership made him the heartbeat of the team's attack.
Reflecting on his departure, Olunga expressed pride in what he achieved during his time in Doha.
'I spent four amazing years with the club, filled with tremendous support and love both on and off the pitch,' he said.
'I'm happy to have played for this great club; joining a club of Al Duhail's stature was a huge step for me.'
He continued: 'Today I announce my departure from the club with my head held high and I am moving forward in search of a new future. I truly gave my utmost effort to this great club and achieved many accomplishments.'
Olunga's legacy at Al Duhail is cemented not just in numbers, but in moments—decisive goals, crucial titles, and a string of standout performances in both domestic and continental competitions.
'I remember my first goal for the team versus Al Rayyan. On my last day at the club, I feel emotional, but I leave satisfied. I'll miss the fans, my teammates, and the magnificent Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium,' Olunga added.
The Nairobi-born striker also left the door open for a possible return, hinting that he could one day rejoin Al Duhail in another capacity.
'Perhaps I'll return one day as a player, coach, or official. I will continue to support Al Duhail and hope they become the best team in Asia.'
Under Olunga's leadership, Al Duhail clinched multiple trophies including Qatar Stars League titles and cup competitions.
His consistency in front of goal and calm demeanor off the pitch earned him the admiration of fans, teammates, and club officials alike.
Al Duhail's final message summed up the emotions surrounding his departure: 'Thank you, Olunga… you will always remain an integral part of the Al Duhail family.'
As he embarks on the next chapter of his career, speculation will mount over where the prolific forward will land next. But what is clear is that Michael Olunga leaves Al Duhail not just as a footballer, but as a club legend.

Pakistan names Qatari royal as brand ambassador after ‘Killer Mountain' climb
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Qatari royal and elite mountaineer Sheikha Asma Al Thani as the country's Brand Ambassador for Mountains and Tourism, following her historic summit of Nanga Parbat. The announcement came shortly after Sheikha Asma became the first Qatari woman to scale the 8,126-metre peak, which is located in Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region and is known as one of the world's most dangerous. Her appointment is seen as both a diplomatic gesture and a strategic move to promote Pakistan's mountain ranges as a global destination for high-altitude adventure. In a statement posted on social media platform X, Sharif praised Sheikha Asma's achievement as a 'powerful message of courage and determination' and a symbol of the enduring ties between Pakistan and Qatar. 'I am pleased to appoint Her Highness Sheikha Asma Al Thani as the Brand Ambassador for Pakistan's Mountains and Tourism,' he wrote. 'Her recent achievement of summiting Nanga Parbat is truly inspiring. It stands as a testament to resilience and showcases the immense potential of Pakistan's mountain tourism.' Known for its treacherous conditions, Nanga Parbat has long held the ominous nickname 'Killer Mountain.' Just last week, Czech mountaineer Klára Kolouchová, 46, died during an expedition on the same peak. For Sheikha Asma, the summit marked her ninth successful ascent of the world's 14 peaks over 8,000 metres. 'Alhamdulillah, Nanga Parbat. My ninth 8000er and one of the toughest climbs I've faced,' she wrote on Instagram. 'This mountain tested me in ways I didn't expect… a constant reminder of how fragile life truly is.' 'There was surrender, and there was strength I didn't know I still had. I climb not just to reach summits, but to return to what matters,' she added.

Ahly's Palestinian striker Abou Ali draws Gulf interest after Club World Cup heroics - Egyptian Football
Egyptian giants Ahly have reportedly received lucrative offers from Gulf clubs for Palestinian striker Wessam Abou Ali following his standout performances at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The 26-year-old forward scored three goals during the tournament, catching the eye despite Ahly's early exit in the group stage. Upon the team's return to Cairo, Ahly were reportedly approached by Qatari side Al-Rayyan, UAE club Al-Wasl, and Major League Soccer outfit New York Red Bulls, all of which expressed interest in signing the prolific striker. According to local media, Al-Rayyan have submitted a $8 million bid, while Al-Wasl offered $7 million. However, sources close to the club suggest Ahly have set a $10 million price tag for their star striker. Ahly sporting director Mohamed Youssef insisted last week that Abou Ali is not for sale, stating: 'The team needs his contributions in the coming period.' However, with interest growing and substantial offers on the table, the club's stance could be put to the test. Since joining Ahly in January 2024, Abou Ali has quickly established himself as a vital figure in the squad. He netted 18 goals in 19 appearances to win the Egyptian Premier League Golden Boot in his debut season. Despite injuries hampering his most recent campaign, he managed 10 goals in 16 league matches, finishing just behind teammate Emam Ashour in the scoring charts. Abou Ali's most memorable moment came in Ahly's final Club World Cup match, where he scored a perfect hat-trick in a thrilling 4-4 draw against FC Porto.
