Riverdale star barely recognisable in trailer for new romance that already has fans 'sobbing'
The Map That Leads To You - Official trailer on Amazon Prime
KJ Apa, famed for his role as Archie Andrews in Riverdale, is unrecognisable in the newly released trailer for a captivating romance film set to premiere on Prime Video next month.
Adapted from JP Monninger's novel, the film introduces us to Heather Mulgrew, portrayed by Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline, a young traveller whose life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Apa's enigmatic character, Jack, during her European holiday.
Heather, who's on a quest for self-discovery before embarking on her career in New York City, finds herself swept up in a whirlwind romance with Jack, a man tracing his grandfather's footsteps through a journal.
Their journey ignites a passionate affair as they traverse the picturesque landscapes of Spain, Portugal, and Italy, hinting that their connection might be more than a fleeting summer romance.
Yet, as they delve deeper into their relationship, complexities arise, forcing Heather to choose between her ambitions and what could be the love of her life, reports the Express.
The official synopsis teases: "This chance encounter sparks an unexpected journey of self-discovery.
"As their connection deepens, secrets, life choices, and hidden truths will test their bond-and change Heather's life in ways she never imagined."
Riverdale enthusiasts who've lost touch with Apa's breakthrough series may do a double-take upon seeing the Kiwi actor in this new persona.
Ditching Archie's iconic red locks for a tousled darker mane and sporting some stubble, Apa also sheds the American accent, fully immersing himself in this fresh character.
The forthcoming drama flick, helmed by the director of What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Lasse Hallström, will feature Sofia Wylie from The School for Good and Evil and Ozark's Madison Thompson as Heather's closest friends.
Orlando Norman and Josh Lucas are also set to appear, with the latter known to Yellowstone enthusiasts for his portrayal of a young John Dutton, originally played by Kevin Costner.
With the trailer dropping this Tuesday (15th July), The Map That Leads to You is already stirring excitement among fans, who are bracing themselves for an emotional journey when it hits screens in just over a month.
One eager YouTube user responded: "I'm so beyond excited to finally be able to watch this movie."
Another fan gushed: "The movie looks so beautiful, I can't wait to see this!!!!!"
A third person shared their enthusiasm: "I've missed movies with this vibe, literally so excited."
Meanwhile, a devotee of the source material confessed on X (formerly Twitter): "Guys who haven't read the map that leads to you don't get why we're already sobbing."
An additional comment came with a caution: "Iv read the book and so I tried to prepare myself but as soon as I saw the trailer and that single tear falling down heathers face I fear I will NEVERR be fully prepared."
They continued: "I'll prob be sobbing in a fetal position for days on end after watching it."
Prime Video might just have one of the biggest tear-jerkers of the year lined up for viewers this summer, promising a poignant European adventure with Heather and Jack.
The Map That Leads to You premieres Wednesday, 20th August on Prime Video.

Sunday Brunch viewers distracted by Simon Rimmer's habit as they issue same complaint
Sunday Brunch viewers were left unimpressed as they tuned into the latest edition of the Channel 4 show, with some pointing out that they were distracted by Simon Rimmer's constant habit Channel 4 viewers watching the latest Sunday Brunch episode raised concerns about presenter Simon Rimmer. The programme featured guests Rachel Riley, Ashley Roberts, Ryan Sampson, Harriet Webb, and Geoff Norcott alongside hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon with the usual mix of celebrity chat and culinary segments. However, one particular mannerism began drawing criticism from eagle-eyed viewers at home. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one frustrated viewer posted: "#sundaybrunch why does [Simon] that fake sipping from his mug ? Probably because he can't think of anything to add to the interview." Another observer echoed similar sentiments, writing online: "Rimmer constantly picking up his empty mug again and taking pretend sips." Beyond the presenting style, some viewers expressed dissatisfaction with the guest line-up, with many switching channels. One disgruntled fan commented: "As usual, I've never heard of most of them! And that Ashley Roberts just talks over the others. I'll join you with Titchmarsh." Similarly, another viewer declared: "#sundaybrunch Riley and Norcott on the same show. No thanks. Won't be watching today.", reports the Express. Despite the criticism, the show wasn't without its supporters. One enthusiastic viewer praised: "Lovely to see @jennylinford on #SundayBrunch talking about her book #Repast ! Fascinating stuff . . . Amazing objects from @britishmuseum." Meanwhile, another optimistic fan noted: "People I recognise it could be a good #SundayBrunch this week." Last week, the programme took an uncomfortable twist and left Simon having to tackle the elephant in the room, "why has the Channel 4 show never won a Bafta?". During one section, Omar Allibhoy needed to use the noisy blender to create a watermelon gazpacho soup to go with his tuna carpaccio dish. He said sorry before switching on the kitchen gadget for several seconds, and then Simon appeared on screen and joked: "It's no wonder we've never won a Bafta," as everyone in the studio erupted into laughter.

David Mitchell's emotional confession about relationship with wife Victoria Coren
Comedian David Mitchell has been happily married to Victoria Coren for over a decade. Comedian David Mitchell has lifted the lid on his relationship with now-wife Victoria Coren, which he discusses in his memoir 'Back Story'. The Peep Show actor confessed to being "hopelessly in love" with Victoria, who he says initially rejected his romantic advances. "I was hopelessly in love. I told no one about it," he reveals in his book. "I didn't tell my closest friends or my parents of the enormous sadness that overshadowed my life." The adoration he felt for Victoria lingered in silence until she finally consented to a date with him years later. "I waited three years. Isn't that weird? Aren't I odd? I can't explain it other than to say I couldn't do anything else," he reflects in his writing. "If only I'd known I just had to wait three years... I would gladly have suffered ten times as much." Although he was suffering, the star kept his anguish well-concealed behind his humour. "The problem is, I hate the sort of dating thing," he admits, reports the Express. "I just find it incredibly awkward... I don't dislike being single enough to put myself through the pain." David and Victoria, now host of BBC's Only Connect, instantly hit it off at their fatefully timed meeting during a Halloween party in 2007, having been introduced by fellow comedian David Baddiel. Victoria confessed: "He specifically said to me, 'There's David Mitchell over there, I think you should probably marry him, I'll get the ball rolling by introducing you. I thought that was ridiculous but, a couple of hours later, I thought I would probably marry him," as reported by MSN. Initially, Victoria brushed off the suggestion, but by the end of the night, she was sold on the idea. Despite their instant connection, it took several years before they embarked on their first official date, as the timing wasn't right. Victoria was still grieving the loss of her father, Alan Coren, who died from cancer in 2007. David patiently bided his time, never pressuring his now-beloved wife but always nurturing the hope of a shared future. Their first official date eventually happened in 2010, and they tied the knot in 2012. David has never shied away from expressing his deep love for Victoria. "I am just incredibly proud that someone like Victoria wants to be with me," he declares. "She has these amazing qualities, but fundamentally, we clicked. I fell in love with her." In his memoir, he portrays her as "too wonderful" and "too right for me." The couple celebrated the birth of their two daughters - Barbara Elizabeth in 2015 and June Violet in 2023.
