Lamine Yamal to wear Barcelona's iconic No. 10 jersey next season
'I'll try to build my own path, but all kids would like to be like them,' Yamal said Wednesday at the club's announcement. 'All three have been incredible players, they're legends, and I'll try to follow in their footsteps.'
Having turned 18, Yamal was able to sign the contract extension that he had agreed with Barcelona in May, keeping him in place until 2031.
'My goal is to keep winning and growing,' Yamal said. 'It's the club of my life. It's my home, I've been here since I was 7 years old.'
Yamal wore the No. 19 jersey last season. The No. 10 most recently was with Ansu Fati, who will play on loan with Monaco.
Yamal, accompanied by his family, received the No. 10 jersey from club president Joan Laporta.

The announcement comes after Yamal was criticized for reportedly hiring people with dwarfism as entertainers during his lavish 18th birthday party last weekend.
Yamal sidestepped the controversy on Wednesday.
'In the end I work for Barça, but when I'm away from the club's training center, I enjoy my life and that's it,' Yamal said. 'I'm indifferent to both criticism and praise if they don't come from my family or people close to me.'

STOCKHOLM (AP) — Ingvar Ambjørnsen, a Norwegian author who mixed a sharp, even dark tone with humor and empathy in works that depicted the lives of the oppressed and vulnerable, has died, his publisher said. He was 69. The Cappelen Damm publishing house did not specify the cause of death. Ambjørnsen became one of the publisher's best-known contemporary authors with four novels built around the character Elling, a shy and imaginative outsider who coped with the funny but endearing foibles of daily life after release from a psychiatric hospital. The comedy 'Elling' — the story of two recently released mental patients bunking together in an apartment in Oslo — was nominated in 2001 for an Academy Award as best foreign-language film. The tale landed on Broadway in 2010, with a play starring Denis O'Hare and Brendan Fraser: One of the misfits was fixated on his mother, the other obsessed with sex. According to the author website, Ambjørnsen wrote 18 novels and three collections of short stories, as well as several books for children and youth. A newly written collection of short stories is set to go on sale in Norway on July 31.

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Scotland second rower Gregor Brown has been called up to the British and Irish Lions' tour of Australia because of concerns over the fitness of lock Joe McCarthy. Brown was to join Andy Farrell's squad in Melbourne on Sunday to provide cover for Tuesday's final midweek match against a First Nations and Pasifika XV. McCarthy left the field in the 44th minute of Saturday's 27-19 victory over the Wallabies because of a foot issue that makes him in doubt for the Lions' attempt at clinching the three-test series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday. 'It was niggling away at Joe. We got him off. Hopefully we got him off in time,' said head coach Farrell, who revealed that the Ireland player also has heel pain due to plantar fasciitis.
