Ananya Panday changed after Siddhant Chaturvedi's nepotism statement, says Anurag Kashyap; claims other star kids are controlled by parents: ‘They don't let them be'

Indian Express11-07-2025
'While some star kids have successfully found their footing in Bollywood, others continue to face challenges associated with the 'nepo baby' label. In a recent interview, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap spoke about Ananya Panday's career trajectory, noting how she evolved after Siddhant Chaturvedi's widely discussed remark on nepotism and struggle. He also said that many star kids struggle to progress because their parents tend to hold them back.
During a conversation with The Juggernaut, Anurag was asked about his favourite star kids in showbiz. 'Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Ananya, and Ayan Mukerji. There's Dhanush in the South. There are lots of people, Fahadh Faasil,' he replied.
Praising Ananya Panday's recent work, and crediting that to Siddhant Chaturvedi 's wake-up call, the director said, 'I think she has figured out. That one thing that happened long back in an interview when Siddhant Chaturvedi said that 'Our struggles begin when yours end', I think she took it very personally. I think something happened, altered inside her, because something about her changed after that.' Back in 2019, Ananya equated struggle to not being invited to Koffee With Karan and Siddhant gave her a savage reply. He said, 'Everyone has their own struggle. The only difference is jahan humare sapne poore hote hain, wahan inka struggle shuru hota hai (their struggle begins where our dreams are fulfilled).'

Kashyap added, 'After that, I saw her in CTRL and Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. Something flipped inside her and she found herself or she is on the path to find herself. Whatever it is, she is doing great stuff. She took a risk, she is taking risks and she is quite nature. She experiments and is not playing safe unlike others.'
Anurag Kashyap also feels that the parents of other star kids don't allow them to grow by putting restrictions. 'Kids actually are much more smart. More than the kids, I think the parents are not letting the kids be, or make their choices. For the sake of safety, the parental thing kicks in that I know better and I will protect my children, and give them a very successful career. That's where the problem is. Let them go out and do things normally on their own. The problem doesn't lie with the kids, it lies with their parents,' he concluded.

Ananya Panday Wipes Away Tears After Watching Ahaan Panday's Saiyaara: ‘I Never Cry'

Last Updated: Ananya Panday, Chunky Panday, Alizeh Agnihotri, Bobby Deol and many others attended the special screening of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda starrer Saiyaara. Ahaan Panday is currently basking in the success of his Bollywood debut film 'Saiyaara' which hit the big screens on July 18. A special screening of the film was held recently, which was attended by several celebs such as Bobby Deol, Ananya Panday, Alizeh Agnihotri, Chunky Panday, and many others. Ahaan's sister Alanna has now finally shared a video, giving a sneak-peek into the star-studded evening. Ananya Panday was seen tearing up after watching her cousin's debut film, while Bhavana Pandey and Chunky Panday also showered love on Ahaan. The video shared by Alanna Panday shows celebrities exiting the theatre after watching Saiyaara. Ananya Panday was seen wiping her tears, much to Alanna's surprise. 'I never cry," said Ananya, while Alanna agreed saying that she hasn't seen the actress every cry. The 'Kho Gaye Hum Kahan' actress then told Alanna, 'At your wedding, I tried to poke my eye to cry." The latter replied, 'Even if she gives birth to her own child, she won't cry. But she cried for this (Saiyaara)." Meanwhile, Bhavana Panday gushed over Ahaan's debut film, and said, 'My one word is 'Ahaan'. I love you, Krish." Chunky Panday said, 'I am too excited!" Alanna Panday was also seen getting emotional and tearing up during the premiere of Saiyaara. Check out the video below! Earlier, Ananya Panday shared her review of Saiyaara, and wrote, 'No one does heartbreak and love like you @mohitsuri cried and smiled and then cried some more. My brother you are MAGIC. You know how I feel. Dadi would be proud @ahaanpandayy and @aneetpadda you are so so lovely and magnetic and I'm obsessed with your voice." Mohit Suri's Saiyaara, starring debut actors Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, showed solid momentum on its second day in theatres. After opening with an estimated Rs 21 crore net in India on Friday, the film saw a jump in collections on Saturday, bringing in around Rs 24 crore (as per early estimates on industry tracker Sacnilk). With this, the film's total two-day collection now stands att Rs 45 crore net in India. Backed by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara is making waves not just for its impressive box office numbers but also for its unexpected promotional playbook. What makes Saiyaara's strong opening even more surprising is that neither Ahaan nor Aneet had any major visibility before the release. Directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara follows the love story of Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday), a dreamer who wants to become a singing sensation, and Vaani Batra (Aneet Padda), an aspiring journalist. Their lives take unexpected turns as love, ambition, and societal pressures clash in this emotionally charged romance. First Published:

When Shah Rukh Khan Wanted To Collaborate With OG Don Director Chandra Barot

New Delhi: Chandra Barot, the filmmaker behind the original Don featuring Amitabh Bachchan, died on Sunday. He was 86. His wife, Deepa Barot, confirmed the news to TOI and shared, 'He had been battling pulmonary fibrosis for the past seven years.' Chandra Barot will always be known as the OG Don director. Even Shah Rukh Khan, who played the lead in the reboot, had huge respect for him. Previously, SRK addressed the reboot talk and said he had once thought of doing Don with Chandra Barot himself, reported Times Now. In a Koffee With Karan episode, when Karan Johar asked, 'If you woke up one morning and realised that you had gone back to the 70s, you would…', SRK replied, 'I would make Don with Chandra Barot and quell all the controversies that happen now.' SRK led the franchise reboot with Don in 2006 and Don 2 in 2011, both directed by Farhan Akhtar. Now, Farhan is working on the third film, but this time Ranveer Singh is playing the lead role. Coming back to the 1978 film, it is considered a cult classic. Amitabh Bachchan is seen in a gripping double role, playing both the ruthless gangster Don and his lookalike Vijay. The film also features Zeenat Aman as Roma, Pran as Jasjit and Iftekhar as DSP D'Silva. Om Shivpuri, Satyen Kappu, P. Jairaj, Kamal Kapoor, Arpana Choudhary and Helen are also part of the project. While Don is undoubtedly Chandra Barot's most iconic directorial venture, his filmography includes other titles such as Aashrita, Pyar Bhara Dil, Hong Kong Wali Script and Neil Ko Pakadna... Impossible. Long before stepping into the director's chair, Chandra Barot had worked as an assistant director on some of Hindi cinema's notable works, including Purab Aur Pachhim, Yaadgaar, Shor and Roti Kapada Aur Makaan.
