First made-in-India semiconductor chip soon, says Union minister
Speaking at the inauguration of SAP Labs India's new Innovation Park in Devanahalli, Vaishnaw said, 'The bullet train accelerates 0-100 kmph in 54 seconds, but Vande Bharat does it in 52. That is the pace at which India is moving in technology, whether it's AI, chip-making, or digital infrastructure.' Calling the facility a timely investment in 'India's growth story', he said it aligns closely with the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision. 'In the last 11 years, India has moved from the 11th largest economy to soon becoming the third largest. This is a period of rapid change in geopolitics, geoeconomics and geotechnology, and India is navigating it with steady leadership,' he added.
Vaishnaw also announced that over 34,000 GPUs have now been empanelled under a public-private partnership, offering computing access to students, researchers, and early-stage startups across colleges.

CM: TN has double digit growth of 11.19%
Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin said TN has become the fastest growing state in the country overcoming multiple challenges. Citing a Union ministry of statistics report, Stalin said on Wednesday that TN's economic growth rate has touched 11.19%, surging past the previous estimate of 9.69%. Karnataka to complete AI workforce impact survey in a month
Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge on Tuesday said the state is talking to companies to evaluate the impact of AI on workforce and the assessment is expected to be completed in about a month. The comment assumes significance in the backdrop of TCS' decision to slash 12,000 jobs this year. The unexpected move by India's largest IT services company has sent fresh tremors in the tech industry, that has been battling global macroeconomic woes and geopolitical uncertainty. On the Karnataka State IT/ITeS Employees' Union reportedly seeking action against TCS over the job cuts, Kharge said Karnataka does not recognise unions in IT sector. He, however, added that "if there are concerns raised by public and people, it is our responsibility to address it". "We are talking to companies to ask them what exactly we can do to ensure our HR or talent is most employable. We are getting a survey done with the companies on AI affect in workforce," Kharge told PTI on sidelines of SAP Labs India event. He added that the process is expected to be completed in about a month. It is pertinent to mention here that India's top IT services companies have delivered single-digit revenue growth in Q1 FY26, capping off a somewhat-sobering June quarter as macroeconomic instability and geopolitical tensions have weighed on global tech demand and delayed client decision making.

Raisin producers, traders protest against imports as prices fall in Sangli market
Kolhapur: Hundreds of raisin producers, traders and cold storage operators marched to the Sangli collector's office on Wednesday, demanding that central govt stop import of raisins into India, both legally and illegally. Prices of raisins in the Sangli-Tasgaon Bedana Market, the largest raisin market in India, have dropped steeply over the past few months. Raisin prices, which ranged between Rs 300-400 per kg, fell below Rs200. Raisin production witnessed a steep decline this year due to significant damage to vineyards and fewer grapes available for raisin production. Raisin producers approached deputy chief minister and state finance minister Ajit Pawar with their concerns. Pawar wrote to Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal seeking immediate intervention since raisin production is a capital-intensive industry and the losses have become unbearable for everyone in the chain. "Huge amounts of raisins from China are being brought into India through the illegal route of Nepal. Also, raisins from other countries are packaged as Afghan raisins and brought to India. The Afghan raisins have no duty due to a trade agreement. Several big Indian players are bringing the raisins, showing procurement prices much lower than the domestic price of raisins. They should be punished," said Rajendra Kumbhar, the president of the Raisin Traders' Association. Several farmers from Solapur and Karnataka's border areas participated in the protest march. "I produce around 15 tonne of raisins every year. Due to the import of raisins and the drop in prices, I have suffered a loss of Rs 15 lakh," said a farmer. The raisins produced in Sangli and nearby areas are of the best quality and have high demand across India. The demand shoots up during festivals, which are about to start soon. Before the start of the festivals, the centre should crack down on the illegal imports, said the farmers.
