RUSSELL MARTIN has urged his Rangers heroes to shoot for the stars after securing European league-phase football.
In a repeat of last week's clash, Djeidi Gassama leapt off the bench to score with his first touch.

It sealed the 1-1 draw against Panathinaikos which means Gers are now guaranteed a place in Europe beyond Christmas. And with the first leg of their third-round qualifier against Viktoria Plzen at Ibrox on Tuesday, Martin has told his players not to settle for second best.
The Gers boss said: 'My job as head coach here is to always want more from the players, so I'm really pleased with tonight that we qualified. But I have to want more in terms of the performance and what we're doing — we have to be better.
'I said to them I'm so proud of them, but we have to get better, and we will, I really believe that.
'But we are at a club that demands we try to win every game.
'It's part of the reason we're all here, so we'll give it our best shot, attack it as best we can and see where it takes us.'
Having survived a first- half onslaught, Filip Djuricic finally cut Gers open.
But the hostile home support was silenced minutes later as Gassama produced another stunner.
Martin praised his side's character as they emerged from the Athens cauldron with their Champions League dream intact.
He said: 'I'm incredibly proud of the team, the staff, the fans were amazing too, so it's a big night for us.
'We played against a really good team, in a really difficult place to play. It's as tough a draw as we could have had.

'So they'll have moments but we didn't start either game well enough. At half-time they had to compose themselves and do exactly what I asked of them.
'After conceding, it's the best response.
'They stuck together, fought, dug in, and in the second half we played some really good football too, and should have had a few more moments ourselves, but they'll grow so much from that.
'I said to the players before the game, you have an opportunity not many people get to have nights like this, to make the most of it.'
Gassama has now scored twice in Europe, justifying the £2.2million Gers shelled out to sign him.
How they rated
Jack Butland
Huge save from Facundo Pellistri and was crucial during the early onslaught. Will be disappointed to concede a weak header but Gers' top man over two legs.8
James Tavernier
Caught on the ball too often in a difficult night for the Gers skipper, but dug deep as the Ibrox men managed to get the result they needed.6
Nasser Djiga
Got himself into trouble with his passing out from the back at times but covered the ground really well and was strong in one v one situations.7
John Souttar
At the centre of an early penalty claim for handball but it would have been harsh. Display wasn't faultless but he stood strong when Rangers needed him.7
Max Aarons
Lucky escape after a mix-up with Souttar from a simple long ball. Didn't look overly comfortable on the left but made himself available and put in a shift.6
Joe Rothwell
Quiet start but tried his best to get on the ball and calm Rangers down by playing simple passes. Never flustered in possession and got stuck in.7
Mohamed Diomande
Couldn't really make an impact on the ball but energy and workrate was crucial as he ran himself into the ground in the stifling Athens heat.7
Nico Raskin
Burst forward on a first-half break but couldn't get a shot away. Busy in the midfield and always looked to make things happen as he took responsibility.7
Kieran Dowell
Booked for a cynical foul just before the break and didn't offer much more in the first half. Fell asleep at back post as Filip Duricic headed in the opener.5
Findlay Curtis
Half chance inside the box and also had a couple of breaks but the Gers kid found it tough as the Greeks pressed. Subbed after the opener.5
Danilo
Fed off scraps as the lone striker but hold-up play needs to be a lot better when Rangers are under pressure. Kept going and heavily involved at the equaliser.6
SUBS: DJEIDI GASSAMA (7) on at 1-0 and levelled instantly with a brilliant finish to kill the Greek momentum. JEFTE (5) Brazilian left-back replaced the tiring Dowell. CYRIEL DESSERS (3) last ten to give Danilo a rest and missed golden chance. NEDIM BAJRAMI (3) on at the same time for Rothwell.
And Martin believes the winger will only get better.
The Ibrox boss stressed: 'It's a tough call to leave anyone out of the team, especially when someone had such an impact off the bench.
'But we went for consistency, players who had played together more.
'Gas is still catching up for sure and he had such a big moment last week, it took the stuffing out of him, it made him tired because it was so much adrenaline, he had such a brilliant start.
'He knows what we think of him here, he also knows that he has to be patient and he is more ready to start now than he has been before tonight.'

Mikey Moore is here to help Rangers win

The highly-rated 17-year-old attacker joined the Ibrox outfit from Tottenham on a season-long loan on Friday morning. The move is subject to international clearance – which, due to his age, may take more time than usual – and he is unlikely to feature in the William Hill Premiership opener against Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday. 😍 — Rangers Football Club (@RangersFC) August 1, 2025 Gers boss Martin, whose side won through to the Champions League third qualifier against Viktoria Plzen with a 3-1 aggregate win over Panathinaikos in Athens on Wednesday night, admits the development of players is key to his football philosophy but is adamant Moore is coming to Glasgow to make Rangers successful again. He said: 'It was a reason why I got a job at Swansea from MK Dons, for sure, developing young players, and then a big reason why I got a job at Southampton as well. 'We enjoy working with young players, enjoy playing a part in their development, and I think we can help Mikey, but most importantly he can help us win on the pitch. 'We're not here to just have other teams develop football players. We're here to win and he can help us do that. 'And if we can win when developing people and players as well, then that's the ultimate goal. 'It's a brilliant signing for the club. It'll be good for us and good for Spurs, hopefully to help his development. It'll be good for Mikey. 'So I think it's a really good move for everyone and I think he'll definitely add to us as a big option on the pitch and in the forward line. 'He can play in a few positions and he's a super-talented boy, so we're excited to have him. 'I think age is irrelevant really. If you're good enough, you're old enough and I certainly think he's good enough to impact games for us and help us win games of football. 'I'm really pleased and delighted that Spurs have allowed him to come here because a lot of people were interested in Mikey and he was desperate to come in. 'I said that we need people to be desperate to come here and play football and he was that.' Asked if the arrival of Moore may curtail the development of 19-year-old attacker Findlay Curtis, who had been a feature of the Gers squad so far this season, Martin said: 'No, no, I think the more options we have in the top line the better and Findlay's really versatile, as is Mikey. 'I don't think it stunts one of our own. I think it helps him playing with a really top player all the time and picking up and learning. 'Findlay is such a good learner, so I don't see it as being harmful to him at all.'

There has to be ambition from everyone – Brendan Rodgers sends contract message

Rodgers is entering the final season of his three-year deal and told principal shareholder Dermot Desmond and chief executive Michael Nicholson that he is not interested in performing a maintenance job. The Celtic manager reiterated he would be going nowhere of his own volition before his contract expires but his long-term future remains unclear. Asked about his contract situation ahead of Celtic's William Hill Premiership opener against St Mirren on Sunday, Rodgers said: 'Dermot and Michael and I had a conversation over the summer on where we were at. 'I said: 'I'm very happy here'. There's conditions we want to be able to improve and be better because I'm not the type of manager that's good at maintaining anything. If it's just something to maintain, I'm not the manager of Celtic. It'll be someone else. 📸Focused on Sunday#CELSTM | #CelticFC🍀 — Celtic Football Club (@CelticFC) August 1, 2025 'But to build and grow and develop and push, then of course I love being at Celtic. 'I'm not the one that's going to sit here and just maintain levels. My commitment here to Celtic is this is a really fast-moving club and you have to keep moving, move quickly. 'It's one of the biggest clubs in world football. It has a demand and an expectation on it and the only way you get better within that is by improving and developing.' Rodgers stressed he was not saying the club had to match his own ambition. 'I don't want to be really arrogant to say that,' he said. 'Celtic clearly has an expectation and should have an expectation because of the size of the club we are, and what the demands are here. 'What I'm saying, for clarity, I love being here. And, yes, there's been some challenges on and off the pitch since I've arrived, but that's management, that's coaching. But in the main, I've absolutely loved it here and I will continue to do so however long that is. But like I said, there has to be that ambition from everyone. 'In terms of my situation, I'm relaxed on it only because I know what I give every single day. And if the club choose to offer (a contract) and see that as the way forward, great. If not, it doesn't really matter to me in relation to what I give to the job. 'My ambition is for Celtic. It's not for me. My ambition is for Celtic to be the best that it can be. 'I've been in the game quite a long time now. So I think I understand what we need to succeed. We did that last year. We brought in certain players that helped our profile when we moved into the Champions League. And those players really helped us in the Champions League. 'So my ambition now is to keep us going in that direction. And that's what our conversations are about.' Rodgers has stressed the need to bolster their attacking options in recent weeks. Shin Yamada arrived as a belated replacement for Kyogo Furuhashi but the sale of Nicolas Kuhn to Como has compounded a lack of wide players following the long-term knee injury Jota suffered in May. Rodgers said: 'There's no doubt I would have liked to have had players in now, but it's not the case. I'm not going to kill my own joy and overthink. I focus on what's here. We know the work that we need to do and it's my responsibility to convince the club that we really need them. 'Clearly, I'm not doing that job as well as maybe what I can, but I will continue to pursue that because it's something that's really important for us.'

Benjamin Sesko U-turns over Man Utd transfer after Newcastle talks

RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko has opted to join Newcastle United instead of Manchester United, according to reports in Slovenia. After missing out on deals to sign Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres, United have made Sesko their top striker target for the summer transfer window. Reports this week had claimed that Sesko's preference was a move to United ahead of Newcastle this summer. But according to Slovenian daily newspaper Delo, Newcastle have managed to convince Sesko to make the move to St James' Park.
