India specific Mercedes-AMG G 63 'Collector's Edition' to launch tomorrow. Here's what to expect
Mercedes-AMG G 63 'Collector's Edition' will be launched in India on June 12, 2024. Interestingly, the new Collector's Edition will be tailor-made for India. Mercedes-Benz India has mentioned that the AMG G 63 'Collector's Edition' is developed and presented together by the groups of Mercedes-Benz India and Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India. Since the new collector's version will be in limited quantities, the rates are likely to be over ₹ 4 crore, ex-showroom.
The teaser images revealed by the automaker suggest a glossy exterior finish color for the SUV, a glossy orange exterior paint color to be precise. Apart from this, the Mercedes-AMG G 63 'Collector's Edition new alloy wheel design too. On the other hand, the overall shape and silhouette of the SUV is likely to remain unchanged, while principal design features are also going to be the same as those of the standard model.

Inside too, the specs sheet and the cabin design should be the same as the regular model. The new-generation MBUX infotainment system found in the GLS facelift is featured on the 2025 G 63. The system comes with a 12.3 inch infotainment display and a corresponding digital instrument display of the same size. The new 'Collector's Edition of the Mercedes-AMG G 63 instead is likely to get a new theme for the interior, as per the Indian conditions. The material selection for the interior lining and upholstery could also change since it's a 'Collector's Edition' model.

The spec sheet of the Mercedes-AMG G 63 'Collector's Edition' will also be the same as the standard model. The 2025 G 63 is powered by a handcrafted 4.0-litre V8 engine. It delivers 576 bhp of top power and a top torque output of 850 Nm. It also receives an additional 20 bhp of juice with the mild hybrid technology. The duty gearbox is a 9-speed dual-clutch automatic. There are also paddle shifters available if the driver wishes to be in control manually.

Naqvi not only confirmed Munir's remarks, but also expanded on Pakistan's version of the recent military tensions with India, post Operation Sindoor in May when India had retaliated for the Pahalgam terror attack. Naqvi claimed that during the brief confrontation in May, Pakistan had advanced intelligence about India's operational plans. 'Whatever strategy India devised, we learned about it in time,' he said. He added that none of Pakistan's critical military assets were damaged during the missile strikes, a claim that has been debunked by satellite imagery released by independent experts. Proposed GST rate cuts on automobiles to end classification disputes, hatchbacks may attract 18% tax against 28% now
In the upcoming sweeping reforms, the tax rates on automobiles in India will be restructured. This will resolve the classification disputes related to the engine capacity and vehicle size, which have been playing crucial roles in defining the tax rates for vehicles in the country. Automobiles are currently in the highest tax bracket of the GST regime, and with this move, the government aims to benefit the common people. Presently, automobiles in India are taxed at 28 per cent, which is the highest GST slab. Additionally, a compensation cess, ranging between one per cent and 22 per cent, is levied on top of this rate, depending on the type of vehicle. This further adds burden on the buyers. The total tax incidence on cars, depending on engine capacity and size of the vehicle, ranges from 29 per cent for small petrol cars to 50 per cent for SUVs. Electric vehicles are taxed at a 5 per cent rate. The tax rate has been a concern for consumers as well as the automakers. A lower GST rate of 18 per cent, as compared to the current 28 per cent, is expected to boost demand and sales of the cars, as the vehicles will become more affordable. The small cars that have traditionally been the driving force of the Indian passenger vehicle market are expected to see a boost with this GST reform. The report claims that this will eventually boost consumption, a key idea behind the GST overhaul proposal mooted by the Centre. The Centre's proposal, which includes doing away with the 12 and 28 per cent slab, will be discussed by the Group of Ministers (GoM) on GST rate rationalisation on August 21. Thereafter, the GST Council, comprising the Centre and state finance ministers, will likely meet next month and approve the final GST rate structure.
