Several Serie A sides were in action for pre-season friendlies today, as Atalanta struggled against their own Under-23 team, Udinese beat the Qatar national side, with Torino and Genoa victories too.
The summer is in full swing and that means a series of test matches for the teams we'll soon see in the Italian top flight.
Atalanta made their debut under new coach Ivan Juric with an in-house game against their own Under-23 side, which will play in Serie C this season.
Inter transfer target Ademola Lookman was left out officially due to muscular problems.
It was tougher than expected for Atalanta, who only won 1-0 thanks to a late goal from substitute Charles De Ketelaere on the Mario Pasalic assist.

Udinese fared better in their 3-0 victory over the Qatar national team, as Keinan Davis, Iker Bravo and Jurgen Ekkelenkamp were on target.
Torino swept newly-promoted Cremonese aside 4-1 and the highlight was certainly this fantastic volley from Ivan Ilic well outside the area.

Che Adams pounced on a defensive error, Adrien Tameze nodded in and Bianay Balcot concluded the rout.
Cremonese were on target with De Luca, but their defending left a lot to be desired under heavy rain.
Genoa struggled to see off Mantova 3-2, as they had been losing 1-0 at the break, fighting back with Alessandro Marcandalli, Lorenzo Venturino and Morten Thorsby.

Ravens vs. Colts: Takeaways from first half as Baltimore holds a 21-9 lead

On the annually celebrated family night, Baltimore used timely special teams returns from LaJohntay Wester and Rasheen Ali and a solid defense to jump out to a 21-9 lead over Indianapolis at M&T Bank Stadium. The two teams met for joint practices on Tuesday, and the Ravens held out much of their key starters and contributors, while playing rookies, key veterans, and guys on the bubble. For Indianapolis, Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones are fighting for a roster spot, and David Ojabo nearly ended that competition. Wth the second half fast approaching, we're looking at takeaways and notes from the first half. Rasheen Ali Baltimore is loaded at running back, and we've talked about Ali needing a strong training camp to earn a roster spot. Thursday solidified his standing as a player to watch. Keaton Mitchell is back Mitchell spent last season trying to regain his burst, and he proved the doubters wrong on Baltimore's first drive. Mitchell had nine carries for 68 yards (7.6 avg) and one rushing touchdown. Beau Brade Looking to earn a roster spot and potential starting job, Brade had four first-half tackles and one pass defended. David Ojabo We've mentioned Ojabo several times among players on the roster bubble, and he shined in the first half. Ojabo logged two tackles, two sacks, one sack, one tackle for loss, and one QB hit. LaJohntay Wester The former Colorado star may not see many snaps at wide receiver, but he's the Ravens' primary punt returner. Chiefs HC Andy Reid is sticking with his tried and true preseason method for starting players in Week 1 vs. Cardinals

Chiefs HC Andy Reid is sticking with his tried and true preseason method for starting players in Week 1 vs. Cardinals originally appeared on A to Z Sports. It's finally time to see some Chiefs football on our television City will travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals in Week 1 of the preseason on Saturday. While speaking to the media following Day 14 of training camp practice on Thursday, coach Andy Reid laid out how long the starters will play. "We situate it off the quarterbacks," Reid said. "They'll each get a quarter. So, the first one will be Pat (Patrick Mahomes), second will be (Gardner) Minshew, then (Bailey) Zappe, then Chris (Oladokun) at the end. Each on gets a quarter, and then everyone follows that as we go." This is how Reid has handled every preseason opener throughout his tenure in Kansas City. However, when it comes to Mahomes specifically, he doesn't typically play the entire first quarter. Mahomes is more likely to only play during the first drive, with an outside shot of playing the second drive as was also asked if he'll consider letting the first-team offensive line play a little longer than usual since there has been so many changes to it during the offseason. "We'll see how it goes," Reid said. "I'll play that by ear, but probably not more than a quarter." It's probably safe to say that center Creed Humphrey and right guard Trey Smith won't see a ton of action, but rookie left tackle Josh Simmons and second-year left guard Kingsley Suamataia could be in for a few drives. It will also be interesting to see how much right tackle Jawaan Taylor plays, as his reps have been limited in training camp coming off of offseason knee surgery. Reid also said he's looking forward to seeing how the rookies perform in a game situation. "It's important that they get it," Reid said. "They'll be in front of some bright lights, and it takes it up one more notch. It's not quite the (regular) season, but you're still in front of a big crowd and going against another team. You're adrenaline level gets pushed to another level, and let's see how we do."This story was originally reported by A to Z Sports on Aug 7, 2025, where it first appeared.

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid share powerful messages for rookies ahead of first-ever NFL preseason game vs. Cardinals

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid share powerful messages for rookies ahead of first-ever NFL preseason game vs. Cardinals originally appeared on A to Z Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs are set for their first action of the 2025 NFL preseason with an upcoming tilt against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Speaking to media members ahead of the upcoming game, Chiefs HC Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes both delivered meaningful words for the rookies in Kansas City who are seeing their first NFL action this Saturday. "They're in front of some bright lights, and it takes it up one more notch, not quite the season, but you're still in front of a big crowd and against another team," Reid said. "So, your adrenaline level gets pushed to another level. And let's see how we do." Being in front of the crowd during training camp at Missouri Western State certainly helps with performing in bright lights, but the real test for these players is whether all of the work they've put in can translate to an in-game scenario. If you're a standout and making plays at training camp, can you continue to do so against an actual opponent? That's where Mahomes' message to his team really comes into play for Kansas City. "Yeah, I think it's going out there and doing what they've done this camp," Mahomes said. "I mean, obviously it's gonna be a bigger stage. They're going up against another team, but I think Coach (Andy) Reid prepares us better than anybody else in the league to go out there and play your best football, and that's because we practice hard, we practice fast. So, when you get to the game, it's not that huge step up. It's a step up, for sure. It's not that huge step up. So, go out there like you practice, have the right mindset, and just play fast, and let the rest handle itself." The work they accomplish during training camp actually weighs a bit more heavily than what transpires in the preseason. Sure, the highlight plays are fun for the fans. The truth is that the team doesn't spend much time at all game-planning, as they would for a regular-season game. They've got quite the vanilla playbook and install for the game, which makes it that much more important that players remember everything they've learned out in St. Joseph, Missouri, especially the fundamentals and things that can help them win and compete at the highest levels on a snap-to-snap basis. "I've told you before, we don't spend a ton of time on the game," Reid concluded. "Part of it, we try to get our work done in here. I think that's the most important right now. We'll give them some stuff this afternoon, and talk about it, and they get a walkthrough tomorrow with the mock game. So, but we're not spending a ton of time on it, and I imagine they're doing the same thing. So, but it's always good to go against somebody else and have a little competition that way."This story was originally reported by A to Z Sports on Aug 7, 2025, where it first appeared.
