Steelers EDGE T.J. Watt's record deal may have cost the Bengals their All-Pro defender
Similar to Watt before the recent agreement, Bengals EDGE Trey Hendrickson has been holding out for a new contract extension — and while it's unlikely he'll surpass the Steelers superstar defender as the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, the glaring similarities between the two almost spell disaster for Cincinnati in negotiations.
Hendrickson is the same age as Watt but has found more statistical success over the past three seasons — 42 sacks compared to Watt's 36.
While many pointed out some slight decline in Watt's performance in 2024, the opposite narrative was true for Hendrickson — who led the NFL in sacks last season with 17.5 and was named First-Team All-Pro for the first time in his career.
Watt's position as the highest-paid non-quarterback won't change when Hendrickson puts pen to paper, but it definitely pushed the Bengals defender's price tag upward of $30 million-plus — making it extremely difficult for Cincinnati to get a deal done anytime soon.

Former Spartan Jaden Akins posts best scoring performance in NBA Summer League finale
Former Spartans guard Jaden Akins went out on top in his NBA Summer League finale on Friday. Akins wrapped up his stay at the NBA Summer League with his best scoring performance yet on Friday. Akins reached double-digits in scoring for the first time in the five games played, finishing with 11 points, four rebounds and three steals in the loss against the Mavericks. Akins made it clear he was going to go out firing, putting up a team-high 14 shots in the summer league finale. Akins appeared in four of the Orlando Magic's five NBA Summer League games. He finished his stay averaging just under six points per game in his four appearances. We will now have to wait and see where Akins lands for the upcoming season. There is a chance he'll get signed to a NBA G League team, but at a minimum he'll get a shot to play outside of the U.S. should he not land on a G League squad. Isaiah World named potential No. 1 pick in 2026 NFL draft for Oregon football
Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning and his success in bringing top talent to Eugene via the transfer portal has been well documented, but signing offensive lineman Isaiah World from Nevada has a chance to be his best. According to ESPN, World has a chance, albeit a slim one, to be the No. 1 draft pick in the 2026 NFL draft next year in April. It would be a major feather in Lanning's cap if World has the kind of season worthy of being the top player in the draft. ESPN sets World's chances at a mere one percent, but that's better than no chance, and the Ducks will happily take it. "World is the ultimate wild card in this exercise, as the 6-foot-8, 312-pound tackle is stepping up in competition after transferring from Nevada this offseason," ESPN writer Jordan Reid said. "But his traits are outstanding. World is an above-average athlete and has foot quickness that is among the best of any blocker in the 2026 class. "Scouts want to see him put all his traits together. Even though World didn't allow a sack last season, he drew eight penalties (five for holding, three for unsportsmanlike conduct). He must reduce the penalties while handling the bump up in competition. If he can combine his quick feet with his lower-half suddenness and flashes in the run game, World will be a player to watch early in Round 1." Even as an early first-round pick, that would mean World had a great season and most likely helped Oregon into the College Football Playoff. Protecting quarterback Dante Moore and watching him have a great season will only help World's chances at being an early pick. In any case, it's going to be fun watching World do his thing along the Ducks' offensive line this season. Which Tigers were named to the 2025 preseason All-SEC team?
See which Auburn Tigers earned a place within the preseason All-SEC squad following another successful SEC football media days. Another SEC football media days has passed, meaning that the new college football season is on the horizon. At the conclusion of SEC football media days at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia, the media in attendance voted for the top players in the conference, where two Auburn Tigers made the list. Sophomore wide receiver Cam Coleman and junior defensive lineman Keldric Faulk were named to the preseason All-SEC first team, while transfer wide receiver Eric Singleton and placekicker Alex McPherson earned third-team honors. Faulk was one of Auburn's three representatives at SEC football media days this week, making his second appearance at the event. Faulk recorded 45 tackles last season, with 11 being registered for a loss. Not only is he receiving first-round chatter this preseason, but he is also viewed as one of the team's leaders heading into the 2025 season. Faulk shared his thoughts on his role as a leader during Auburn's time at the podium this week. "It means my team has a lot of faith in me and a lot of faith in how I approach the game, how I lead them and just how much energy I bring to each and every person on that team. I make sure that everybody is up to beat, everybody is ready to work, and make sure we have a very productive game because we can't lose not one of them." Coleman recorded 37 catches for 598 yards and eight touchdowns as a true freshman last season and is expected to have another breakout season. He joins fellow rising sophomore Ryan Williams from Alabama on the first team ahead of another competitive season. Eric Singleton earns third team honors thanks to an impressive resume he brings to Auburn from Georgia Tech, where he led the Yellow Jackets in receiving in his first two years on the Flats. To close Auburn's representation, Alex McPherson makes the third team ahead of a bounce back year. Auburn begins the season on Friday, August 29, at Baylor.
